Hello and Welcome
Hello Everybody,
いよいよ私のブログが始まりました！ 私はあまりコンピューターが得意でないので、やり方になれるまでは少し時間がかかるかもしれない。間違いがあったら許してくださいね。
このブログを読んでいる人は多分私のことを少し知っているのだと思うけど、一応自己紹介をしましょう。
名前はDavid Barkerです。年齢は３９歳になってしまいました（５月１６日が誕生日でした）。イギリス人だけど、１２年間くらい日本に住んでいます。その内の９年間は札幌に住んでいましたが、現在は愛知県の瀬戸市という、とても「田舎」なところにいます。日本人にとってみれば、自分の故郷が「田舎」だとは言われるのはうれしいことではないかもしれないけど、これはイギリス人の感覚と真逆！ イギリスは皆が田舎の生活にあこがれるているので（金持ちは田舎に行くという伝統がある）、私は今とても幸せに、大好きな山の近くで生活しています。夜は静かだし、朝は鳥の泣き声がいっぱい聞こえます。
職場は３月末まで名古屋女子大学だったけど、４月１日からは南山大学の瀬戸キャンパスに移りました（移った理由はとてもlong storyなので、また今度詳しく説明します）。今は南山の総合政策学部の助教授をやっています。
札幌にいた時から私は日本人の英語にとても興味があって、2003年に、日本人の英語の落とし穴について書いた『英語と仲直りできる本』をALCから出しました。それ以降は色々なところで英語の教え方や効果的な学習法、それから日本人が間違えやすい英語について書かせてもらっているけど、言いたいことはまだまだある！
実は今でも毎日のように次々と新しいことを思いついているので、このブログを通して、皆さんに私のアイディアや考え方を発信したいと思います（私は小さいころから、色々な意味で「お前の世界の見方は変わっているよね！」と言われ続けてきました。この性格は時々問題になるけど、その代わりに他の人が気づいていないところに私が気づくこともあるような気がする）。
私の本を読んでくれた人たちはよく「説明がわかりやすい」と言ってくれるけど、実はそれには理由があります。ここだけの話だけど、実は私はちょっとバカなんです！ 高校の数学の先生はいつも私だけにDo you understand?と聞いていました。それはDavidさえ理解していれば、他の学生はきっと大丈夫だ、という考えからだったらしい！ ちょっと悲しいけど、その通りだったので認めるしかないです。
おかげさまで、大学の先生になってからはだれも私の頭の悪さに気づいていない。今のところはまだばれていない。でも実は、自分が理解をするまで時間がかかるおかげで、やっと理解した時は多分頭のいい人がするより簡単に人に説明できると思う。これはこれで教育者としての長所にもなると私は信じています（信じないと、悲しくて、朝起きられなくなる！）。
私は話しながら（または書きながら）考える人です。小さいころはいつも大人に「口を開ける前に考えなさい！」と言われていたけど、それは私のスタイルではない。私のような“しゃべりながら考える”人が無理をして話すのをやめると、頭がクサると思うから、どうしても言いたいことがあった時はここに書かせてもらいますね。
でも、一番オリジナルで面白いアイディアが浮かぶのは人の質問に答えている時や人と討論している時なので、皆さんからのコメントが届けば届くほど、このブログは盛り上がると思います。コメントを楽しみにして待っています…。
そして、このブログを書く言語は皆さんの希望に応じますが、英語も日本語も、両方使うつもり。そのバランスに対する意見があったら、すぐに教えてね。

Hi Chieko. Thank you for my first comment! I used to live in South Liverpool near John Lennon's old house. In my third year of university, I lived just off Penny Lane, so I know that area well. What do you want to know about it?

I've been learning English in Canada for nine months. I'm from Sapporo where you used to live. Actually, I'm annoyed with myself because I haven't improved my English so far.(ToT) By the way, I really like your book and your sense of humour, so I look forward to reading your blog. Please take good care of yourself.

I can't believe I found out your blog by chance.
Three weeks ago, I bought your book by chance and I am still reading it. Your book is so interesting and useful that I'm thinking I should
recommend it to my classmates.(I learn English at
Community Center.)

以前から先生のファンだったので、とてもうれしいです。
先生の説明がわかりやすいのは、「理解するのに時間がかかる」人の気持ちがわかるからなんですね。先生、と呼ばれる人が「自分もそうだから」なんて言ってしまっていいの？とも思いましたが、その率直さにますますファンになりました。

This is first time to visit you. I decided to leave comments, because your birthday 16th May is same as my elder son's. I'm happy to know that.
I lived in London for three years. I visited Cardiff and Swansea where were lovely places. I really love UK. I will enjoy reading your blog.

英語の研修を企画するために情報を探していたところ、「英語と仲直りできる本」にたどり着きました。面白そうな本だと思って説明を読んでいたら、いつの間にかこのサイトに迷い込み、仕事中なのに、最後まで読んでしまいました。
研修で講演していただけたら嬉しいかな。

I am teaching English in high school in kanto now.

Nice to see you, David. Just to say hello and appreciate your efforts, which will give me a great opportunity to learn and brush up my skils of English. One more comment. Seto-city has long history of pottery manufacturing (for about 800 years). Check it out!

Hi,
This blog is very interesting!
I came to California, USA about six years ago and am working for IT company now. I use zero Japanese for my business and should have been learning enough, but I still feel my English isn't good enough...
I would like to tell everyone to study grammar perfectly. We can always update vocabularies later.
I have to study!!!!

I'm so glad to read your profile finding out you were in Liverpool before because I'm a big fan of John Lennon. :-)
