Happy New Year!

Hi Team,

(Anyone can use this expression, by the way.)
Well, here we are at last – in 2007. I will be 40 years old in May this year, so it is a big year for me. Actually, I remember making fun of my mother on her fortieth for being so old. I can’t believe I am here already! Where does the time go?

How was your holiday? I had a really relaxing Christmas and New Year. I have been doing lots of walking, running, mountain biking and trial bike riding, as well as practising the piano and doing a bit of work as well. I wish life could always be this relaxing!

On New Year’s Eve, I was planning to go out and walk up a mountain at midnight, but in the end, I just stayed at home and watched TV. I was with Tonari san and two other guys from our racing team in Suzuka Chuo hospital until 9 pm, and when I got home, I just wanted to relax. Actually, ‘relax’ is going to be my key word for 2007. Do you know the expression “take time to smell the roses”? It means ‘slow down the pace of your life and enjoy the things around you.’ That is what I want to do most of all in 2007. (Maybe I am starting to feel my age!)

There is another saying in English that I have been thinking about recently. It is ‘count your blessings’. It means appreciating all the good things you have. I think that I am actually a very lucky person. I wonder how many people have a job that they really love? Not very many, I guess. I was influenced by my father from when I was very young. He worked in a bank for thirty years, and he hated every day of it. He always told me and my brothers, “Whatever you do in life, don’t end up doing a job you hate.” I think that advice helped me find the courage to quit jobs and move on when I wasn’t really happy. Interestingly, I remember asking my father when I was a child what job he would like to have done, and he said ‘teacher’! At the time, I was not interested in teaching at all, but I am very like my father, so I guess I found the right job eventually.

Anyway, now I have a great job with wonderful students, I live in a really nice house just 5 minutes from the mountains and 2 minutes from work, I have control over how I spend my time, and, most importantly, I have lots of lovely bikes to play with! I think it is time for me to stop trying to get more and start taking the time to enjoy the things I have, so, my New Year’s resolution for my personal life is to slow down and take time to smell the roses. As for my professional resolutions, I want to carry on with my research, improve the quality of my teaching, and, of course, keep trying to build our ‘blog family’. I wonder if we could make a new word for that - maybe ‘blogily’? What do you think? Actually, as I told you before, I have an idea for a new kind of book that I would like to write in 2007. I have spoken to ALC about it, and they like the idea very much. The interesting thing is that I am going to ask all of you to help me to write it. I will give you more details about that in the near future.
I am also planning to introduce you to lots more interesting people through this blog. Our next guest will be my friend Vick. He is from Uganda, and he is balder than me! We sometimes have arguments about who has the shiniest head. I will show you a photo and let you decide. My mother will definitely be joining us soon, but she hasn’t been feeling very well recently. She had some treatment for an illness just before Christmas, and that has left her feeling not too great, but she is looking forward to meeting you all soon. She will probably tell you that I was a lovely child until I was four years old, but then it all went wrong. That’s what she tells all my friends! She might also tell you about how I used to melt chocolate biscuits in my hands and then wipe the chocolate in my hair, but you shouldn’t believe all of her stories.

As I said before, I am really grateful to all the regulars who have helped to make this blog so interesting. I don’t want to write a list of names in case I forget someone, but I hope we will all get to know each other even better in 2007. I remember that Tomo said a long time ago that she would like to meet me. If enough people are interested, I will try to organize an event where we can all meet and get to know each other, maybe in Tokyo. I was thinking about a 2 day and 1 night event where we would stay in a hotel somewhere, and only use English for the whole time. Mind you, I’m not 100% sure that would be a good idea. Would it make the blog more interesting, or is it interesting now precisely because we don’t know each other? Tell me what you think about that.

Tell us also about your plans for 2007. What are your goals / hopes / plans / desires for the coming year? Maybe you are the kind of person who doesn’t like to make plans. In that case, tell us about the things that you are grateful for in your life. What are the things that are going to make you happy in 2007?

My editor will be back at work next week, so we will have sound files again. Until then, I hope you all had a great holiday, and I wish you all the best for 2007.

Bye for now,

David

Hi team,

How have you been? How was your holiday? I almostly spent the time with my family and relaxed.
I "took time to smell the roses(actually snows?)". And I drunk a Japanese sake which was the best in my life! Anyway, I hope all of teams will have great times in 2007.

David, you are thinking of the event we meet? That sounds wonderful! But I'm afraid whether I would go there because I'm far from Tokyo... However, I would manage to join it if you hold it♪ I'm sure tomo will be very happy to read this entry. She might dance with her son!

By the way, you seem to write a new book in this year. Of couse, we, "blogily" will help you as possible as we could. Look forward to working for it and read the new blook.

Well, next guest will be your friend Vick? And we have to decide which men is the balder you and him? I was laughing it! You are humorous. And then, near future guest is your mother, right? I'm looking forward to hearing her story about you were a kid. You loved chocolate cokies...very cute.

This blog would be more fantastic in 2007. Let's make it. David and your blogily would make it!

Tonari san, I hope you will be fine soon!

Hi Alex,
Thank you for your reply! But you don't need to get pressure to reply quickly. You seem to be very busy... I know that. Please take time to smell roses!! But sometimes write comments, I would be happy if it was only one sentence like "how are you?".

Have a great year!!!

Hi David,

I have been busy since New Year's Day. I went to my father's house, my husband's father's house and a shrine to make a wish for the new year with my family. At the shrine, we did “おみくじ” and I got a “大吉”. Lucky me! I think a lot of good things are coming this new year.(I hope so!) Though it's just a paper fortune, I'm happy about it.(笑)

Yes, I said that I would like to meet you and communicate with you in person. That is one of my dreams. Is that true? If enough people are interested, will you try to organize an event where we can all meet and get to know each other? That's great! And Tokyo is fine, I can go! ..But I understand what you tried to tell us. For some people, maybe, it is interesting now precisely because we don’t know each other. But as for me, I'm ready to get to know each other. Actually, I'm kind of “人見知り”. I mean, I'm not good at talking with strangers. But I think there is no strangers in this ‘blogily’. So I think we can be good friends and have a great time, even if we can only use English for the whole time. Of course I have no confidence with my English, but it will be a good challenge for me. I want to try it! I'd love to meet you and my teammates. ‘slow down the pace of your life and enjoy the things around you’, that was what I have been doing in my daily life. I want to try to get more and challenge more in 2007.
David, you know what? I often image that if I meet you, what I will talk to you. In my imagination, I am speaking English fluently. (It’s just my imagination, though.(笑)) But you said in your book about an image training, it is also a good method for learning English, right? So I often do it when I'm in bed at night. I hope that enough people are interested and the event will come true.

By the way, I have a problem with my 3-year-old daughter now. I'm afraid that she has got alopecia areata. I took her to a doctor today. The cause is still not clear but he said that it might be allergies or stress. And he said that I should take her to a dermatologist. I will take her there tomorrow. I hope she will get better soon.

See you later,

Tomo

Hi m.n,

I read your comment now! I laughed when I read this "She might dance with her son!" Maybe you are right. if it come true, I will dance with my children!(笑) But you live far from Tokyo? Sorry about my comment "Tokyo is fine, I can go!" But I want you to join it, of course! ;-)

Hi tomo,

You have already his new entry before I posted my comment. The event is very nice, isn't it!!

By the way, I'm worried about your daughter. I hope she will be fine soon.
One of my friend got alopecia areata(about 10 cm). She didn't know the cause. Maybe, she had stress at her job even though she didn't noice. But she got recover now. Your dauger will be fine like my friend.

See you

Hi tomo,

sorry, me again!
We posted the same time. You and I will make this blog in this year??? Only 2 people? We must gather enogh people for the event!!

Tomo, you know, tokyo is a part of Japan. I live in a part of Japan, too. It's rural area, though. I can fly(by air plane)
Good-night!

Happy New Year! あけおめことよろ!
I hope all of you had wonderful holidays. And thank you for all the comments!

I’ve heard that in the U.S. They have a big party at the age of 40, which is called something like “over the hill”. How about in the U.K.?
A lovely 4-year-old will be 40! Where does the time go? (Sorry! Not necessarily about you, David, but generic.) Sometimes it’s sad to see your (generic again) parents getting older, isn’t it? Well, c’est la vie.
Your mother is lucky, David. I think I wasn’t lovely at four. When I was 3, I was adult. すごく生意気だったから。
At my age my mother already had two daughters. I can’t picture myself as a mother of two. I’m full of my own affairs.

“Take time to smell roses” is a wonderful expression. Sometimes I feel I live only half of my life. Because I’m too busy to enjoy everything around me. And sometimes I feel like I don’t even remember half of what I’ve done.
I think “count your blessings” is the same idea as 「足りるを知る」in Buddhism.
My life is not always a bed of roses, but I think I should count my blessings. I have a job, I’m healthy, and I found this blog.

A friend from Ugamda? I need a map again! I’m looking forward to hearing from your friend and your mother.
I have to go now. いつも夜中になってしまう! More later.

Hi David, Hi Team :-)

I miss David’s voice … because it’s easier for me to listen than read when the speaker speaks clear English like David ;-) I’m just lazy. But I guess I should practice reading a lot. Actually, reading is one of my new year’s resolutions. Reading a lot of Japanese, that is. I want to become a translator in the future (although I’m not doing any training right now) and feel my serious lack of Japanese skills these days. Of course, I need more English skills too but Japanese skills are more essential for a translator, I think. To improve your language skills, the trick is the same: lots and lots and lots of input, right? :-)

I’d love to join the event to meet the team members! I also live far from Tokyo but I hope I can make it. As for whether or not it will be a good thing for this blog, I’m not really sure either. But I think it would make it more fun for the people who got to meet each other. We will have to be careful not to make this blog feel exclusive or anything but I’m sure these members know better.

‘blogily’sounds funny :-) It sounds like an adverb. I imagined there what it would mean as an adverb.

David,
You are turning forty this year? Nah, forty is still pretty young :-)
I hope your mum and your friend Tonari-san will get well quickly. I look forward to meeting (?) your friend Vick.

Hi Tomo,
Your daughter has a bald spot? I’m no specialist but I heard on TV that the major cause of bald spots is “positive stress”. They said it often happens when people are actually happy under potentially stressful circumstances like when they get a promotion, enter university etc. and their mind doesn’t recognize the stress while their body feels it. So, take it easy and don’t worry too much!

Lily

Hi m.n,

Yes, we posted the comments at the same time! It's a coincidence!
Thanks for worrying about my daughter. Your friend got alopecia areata, too? But she is all better now, isn't she? That's a good news. I hope my daughter will be fine, too!
You are right, we've got to gather the members.(^_-)-☆

Alex, did you read the entry? We might be able to meet each other! As I told you, I want to see you*(^^)*

Lily, Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your words made me feel better. I never thought of "positive stress." My daughter is only 3 and she spends with me all the time. So I thought that if the cause was stress, it could be me..(;_;) But I shouldn't worry too much, I'll try to take it easy, thanks!
And I thought that you would say "I’d love to join the event!"

Do you guys(Alex, Lily, Blue Dream, Ayako) remember? "Second Baby-Boomers' Club" (Lily named it.)

And Fuji, Can, how have you been?

Team, what do you think about the event? If you agree with it(or not), please let us know.
それぞれが色々な立場にいるので、反対意見もあると思います。 でもそれも当然だと思います。 無理にとは言いません。 でも何か意見があったら聞かせて下さいね。

Tomo

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone enjoyed the お正月. As the お正月 passed, I feel that it was very little time.
In Japan, we usually go to shrines to make wishes for the coming year. I think that 初詣 is Japanese ritual ceremony. But it is good ritual, isn't it? Regardless of how believes in God, when I go to a shrine, I become a sacred feeling and I feel like sense of self-renewal. Actually, I've not gone a shrine yet in this year. But I want to visit there soon and to say my New Year’s resolution in my mind. Of course, I want to get '大吉', like tomo!
My New Year’s resolution is 'carry out my word'. I only considered many things, could not do execution last year. But this year, I want to DO what I considered.
I think that it is wonderful plan which 'blogily' get together. If it become reality, I would like to participate and I'm looking forward to see blogily! tomo, of course I remember "Second Baby-Boomers' Club"! 実現するといいですね(^_^)

ayako

Hi, everyone,

Thank you for the warm "welcome to the blog!" comments for me in the previous entry.and I hope everyone had a wonderful new year.I enjoyed every moment of it.My family all got together and spent a lot of time together...it was great!

I'm always impressed by David's entry! This is not only the place to learn English but to learn about life. I can't imagine what it is like to have a job you like, David.I don't hate my job, actually I work under a good condition, but, I know it's not a job I want to do for the rest of my life.So this year, hopefully, I want to find what I want to do in my next job.
...and I'm grateful about my freedom: the fact that I can choose (or at least try to have) a job from hundreds of them!

By the way, I'll be in, if you guys get together in Tokyo!
Hope it'll be moved into an action.

see you later,

Pink

Hi tomo,
How about your daughter?
I understand you have concerns about her very much, because I also have a 3-year-old daughter. But I'm worry about you. I was surprised that you posted your comment at 2 a.m. (it was midnight)! Although you have problem, you do like this, you have tender-hearted consideration to friends of blog. Please really get a rest and don't worry seriously. I hope she get well really fast. you know, an injury of child is absolutely cured early rather than us(adult).
子供の怪我などは驚くほど回復が早いですよね。怪我とは違うけど、回復力は並外れていると思います。
I'm sorry I don't give you good word.

ayako

Hi David,
This year will be exciting for me. My new house is going to be completed in the spring. I didn’t decide my resolution, but it will be ‘to keep my new house as beautiful as it’s new’! I’m lazy and I don’t like cleaning, but I’ll mend my ways this year!
By the way, thank you for your comment about ‘from now’. I kind of get it and I kind of don't. If it’s 2 o’clock now, you can say 'I have a meeting from now' instead of 'I have a meeting from 2 o'clock', right? Do you mean it’s OK if ‘from now’ is used with present tense?
How did you feel when you read the examples? Were they strange?
I appreciate your asking some more people for their views. Please let me know if you get opinions.

Hi Lily,
I didn’t know that 英辞郎 isn’t ALC’s product. Thank you for the information.

Hi むらさき,

“count your blessings” is the same idea as 「足りるを知る」in Buddhism.

Now I undrstood it well. I'm not always satisfied myself. So I want to be a person who appricite what I have. I also should be like a person.

Have you arleady got the map of uganda? If it's not yet, see the following site. I needed the map, too.
http://www.mofa.go.jp/mofaj/area/uganda/

Hi tomo,
How do you feel today? How is your daughter? If the cause of her alopecia areata was because of stress, I'm not sure it was your fault. Be kind yourself! Anyway, you seem to have relaxed because of Lily's word. Take it easy.

Hi Lily,
You want to be a translater in your future, don't you? Good-luck! You can make it. And I hope I will meet you in the event if it was held.

Hi Ayako,
I also think praying in shrines are ritual ceremony. I don't believe god so much, but I ask god something when I have trouble... When people go to shrines, some of us may confess what we did bad things, others talk with imoprtant people who died...or talk ourselves. It's good things to go step by step for our own lives. What do you think of it?

Hi pink,
This is not only the place to learn English but to learn about life.

INDEED!!

I hope you will find job you want to do!

Take care of yourselves!!!

Hi Blue dream,

I'm confused the way to use "from now". I want to know if David would feel the examples were unnatural. Do you think you can use "now" instead of "from now" in the examples?
I hope the spring will come soon for you(new house).

Hi ayako,

Thank you for worrying about me, and thank you for your kind and warm words! To be honest, I couldn't sleep well last night. I tried to stop thinking of my daughter, but I couldn't.
I took her to a dermatologist today. The doctor said “Your daughter will get better soon.” 「毛根もしっかりしているし、すぐに良くなると思いますよ。」 It was a big relief! The doctor gave her some medicine for her scalp. I hope it will work for her.

Ayako, thank you so much! I'll go to bed early tonight.(^_-)-☆

Hi m.n,
I've got your message while I was writing my comment to Ayako. Thank you for your kind words! 本当にありがとう!

Tomo

Hi, m.n:
Thank you for the map!! You’re so sweet. Now I’m very curious about the bird in the center of the national flag. Well, maybe I’ll ask him.

You have said you don’t satisfy yourself, I think that’s also a very important thing. It can be the driving force behind your progress. So I don’t think wanting more is a bad thing. Having said that, to “count your blessings” may be wisdom of humanity. There’s a saying ( or a prayer?) I often think about.

O God, give us
serenity to accept what cannot be changed,
courage to change what should be changed,
and wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
(Reinhold Niebuhr)

Hi m.n,

Good morning! I wanted to write more, but I was sleepy last night, sorry. Thanks for your words "Be kind yourself!" That was funny, but I know what you wanted to say. And thanks for the map of Uganda. I'm poor in geography. So I also needed it. It was very helpful to me. Thanks!

Hi むらさき,

『変えられないものを受け入れる心の静けさと
変えられるものを変える勇気と
その両者を見分ける英知を我に与え給え。』
I'm impressed by this words. Very good words! “変えられるものを変える勇気” 私にはこれが足りない気がします。(もちろん英知も足りないですが。。) I want to have courage to change myself this year. Thanks for sharing it!

Hello, friends!

My resolution this year is to take TOEIC test. I want to get more than 800 point! To achieve this, I have to read faster. I am a slow thinker and that is the problem.

The idea that we can help David to write a book is really exciting, isn't it? All of us are willing to help, that's for sure. I can't wait to know what kind of help can we do!

The idea that we meet in Tokyo is great, but I don't think I can manage. Please promise to write what you have talked and what you have done in detail after the meeting, so that the blog family who can't attend should not be left out.

By the way, I dare say ''blogily'' sounds a bit strange... Do you have another name for it?

Hi, Riu.
Thanks for telling me about the MOOK. Now I understand it clearly!

Hi, Tomo. I hope your daughter get well soon. As ayako wrote, children get well incredibly fast!!

Hi Everyone,

Tomo - glad to hear your daughter is getting better. I don't have any children, but I can imagine that it must be a very stressful thing for a parent when a child is ill. Blue Dream - I don't really know very much about Eijiro, or where they got the example sentences, so I want to have a chat to some people at ALC before I comment on the examples you showed me. Basically, my advice is that 今から is not translated as 'from now' when you change a Japanese sentence into English.
I agree with Panda that 'blogily' sounds strange. As Lily said, it sounds like an adverb. How about using the full version, 'blog family'?
It seems that some of you are very interested in meeting, so let's get together in 2007. Actually, maybe we could combine that with the task of writing the book by having a weekend workshop ...
It is nice that some of you think of this blog as a place to learn about life because that's what it is for me too. Please feel free to raise topics that interest you or talk about things that are happening in your lives as well.
See you soon.

Hi David and Everyone,

David, really? Can we get together? Yes! Goody! Hooray!(←I wanted to say “やったー!” In this situation, how do you say it in English?) Thank you, David! It is the first good thing in 2007. It might be “大吉効果”(笑) A weekend workshop sounds exciting. I hope we can be a big help. Just thinking about it makes my heart start pounding.(何だかもうドキドキしてきました) Ha ha ha.. And thanks for your comment about my daughter. Thank to you all, I feel much better. This 'blog family' is really great, isn't it?

Hi Panda,
Thank you for your comment. Yes, children get well incredibly fast. I'll try not to take it too seriously. Thanks!
By the way, after the event come true, I (きっと他の皆も) will write what we have talked and what we have done. I promise!(^_-)-☆

Hi m.n,
I'm going to dance with my children!(笑)

Hi all, happy new year!!

We had a great holiday over new year! My fiancé,Richard, and I spent some time with my folks. We went to Shrines and temples on new years eve. One of them served free Sweet sake and it was interesting. You know, it doesn't really look good and tastes "interesting". kinda shocking!!
Anyway, I'm gonna get married soon and probably move back to Australia later of this year. We've got a lot to get done b4 then but one at a time!
Be relaxed is a good way to go! Yeah, I need to be relaxed more. I'll try ' don't worry, be happy'!!

Anyway, good luck guys!!

Hi, all

The idea of the event sounds great! But I'm not sure I can make it. It depends on when. I'm already assigned another business trips and a meeting on weekend. I hope that no other business event will be made.

David, is it possible to know what we can help about your book?

Hi Michelle,

CONGRAULATIONS♪♪♪♪♪♪

You will get married soon, right? What's a fantastic year! Actually, I have read your blog before even though I didin't write a comment because I was in a office. Today, I clicked your name and read them again. You are so sweety and cute. I saw how you are happy now and love Richard in your blog♪ Have a sweet life with your future husband, Richard!
By the way, I found lots of words and expressions in your blog. So let me learn English in it!

Hi Michelle,

I'm so sorry. I misspelled the most imoportant word...

I wanted to say to you "CONGRATULATIONS"!

Actually, I misspelled every recent comments. I didn't correct them, though. I'm going to care about misspelling from now on.

Hi むらさき,

Thanks for your reply. I understood what you said and totally agree with you. Thank you for telling me the words by Reinhold Niebuhr. I think not to be satisfied myself sometimes gives me an energy to do my best, but other times keeps me complaint against them. That's why I want to be a person who can be satisfied what I am now and count my blessings.

I'm happy to hear that the sight I told you was useful for you and tomo. Actually, I want to go to The African Continent someday because it is very unknown place for me. So I'm exciting about next guest!

Hi tomo,
I'm very glad hear about your daughter. You are the best mother for your kids. Most of the illness for kids(even for us) can happen without no reason, can't they? I had been often said "I'm so stupid" when I failed something. A person said to me "be kind yourself and everyone fail the same things like you". This word got rid of something from me. So I wanted you to be kind yourself!
And I'm sure you have lots of "英知". You don't remenber that David said before Tomo was intelligent?

You are going to dance with your kids? Tell them why you are happy before it in case they worried about you. "What happened to my mammy???" Like that(笑)

Hi Panda,
How have you been? Your resolution is great. You can do it! I also want to go up my TOEIC score.

Hi Tea,
Your job has already kept you so busy since the beginning of this year... I hope to meet you this year!!!

Hi David,

Well, you don't translate "from now" to "今から", do you? So the examples are unnatural? You will explain it again after chatting with the staff of ALC? I'm still not sure about it.

Have great holidays!!

Hi, Tomo:
Thank you for the comment!

Hi, Tea:
You’re sooooo busy, aren’t you!? Actually I felt dizzy when I read your comment on the New Year’s Day.
I’m glad to hear from you, anyway. Please take good care of yourself!

Hi, m.n:
I understand what you mean. Me the same. Thank you!

P.S.
If “blogily” sounds strange, how about “Blomily”? The capital B is Mr. Barker’s B.
Nah, that’s not cool.

Morning Everyone,
m.n., I think Blue Dream mentioned this before, but it is a good idea to use Word to write your comments (I use it for my entries) because it automatically underlines any words it thinks are misspelled. You can check these when you have finished and then decide which ones to correct. It's very useful.
And congratulations Michelle! I hope you will still be a member of the blog after you go back to Oz. I've never been there, but my brother is married to an Aussie, so I'm sure I will go there one day.

Hi Everyone,

Pink, I'm glad to hear from you. I'm looking forward to your new comment and seeing you at the event!

Michelle, congratulations! So you have lots of things to do. 頑張って! But I think doing many things together makes you two(your husband-to-be and you) a real “夫婦”. I hope your married life will be blessed with a lot of happiness!

Tea, I felt the same way as m.n and むらさき. You are sooooo busy! I hope you can make it to the event.

m.n, thank you for your comment! It's nice to be flattered. I hope I will not disappoint you when we meet. (でも会った時にがっかりしないでね~(笑)) By the way, I know another good way to check your spelling. As I said before, I'm not good with computers. So I can't use "Word" well. I use "Outlook Express" for my comment. That's why I can post many comments.;-)

むらさき, I think, maybe, you are like me in some ways.(Sorry if I'm wrong.) I always think things too much. And I think of many "Buts". So let's try to act without too much thinking. It's very very difficult, though.. By the way, I'd love to know the third words. Would you share it with me(us)?

See you soon,

Tomo

Long time no see & A happy new year ! everyone.

I have been to CHCH from December 25th to 30th with my nephew.
it was beautiful & comfortable city for me.
I have visited The National Park of Mt.Cook,Lake Tekapo/Pukaki and more while I have been there.
I wanted to stay longer .

I recommend CHCH, if you hesitate where to go.

see you ^^

Hi, everybody!

I hope everybody got off to a wonderful start of a new year. I see a lot of new names in the past few weeks. The population of this blog seem to be growing more and more.

As for the meeting of the blog members at some point in 2007, it sounds very exciting. To be completely honest though, half of me is willing and anxious to meet the blog members in person, while the other half of me wants to keep our relationship as it is now. It also largely depends on when, just like tea said. I'm leaving the country in early summer, ONLY if things work out the way I'm hoping. Unlike Michelle (good for you! Congratulations!), I'm not getting married, but I'm going back to school in the US for a master's degree. So, there are lots to think about and get done in the next several months...

PS: Thanks Tomo and m.n for worrying about me all the time. Tomo, I will be in MA when you will be visiting your friend in NY this summer. M.n, a lot of your words in the past brightened my days, too.

Hi m.n!!

Thank you for your message!!
I didn't expect anyone to read my blog so it was a big surprise :D

Hi Tomo!!

Thank you for your message too!
がんばります!

Hi David!,

Is your brother living in OZ? cool! yeah, I do keep you guys posted wherever I go on this blog!! I think it's a great idea having get together sometime so I hope I can see you guys before I leave! You are always welcome to visit us,David!! Richard is an English teacher and originally from UK so I'm sure you 2 have a lot in common in a way!!

Hi Alex
Good to hear from you! Are you going back to the US to get a master’s degree? That’s great! What are you studying? Good luck!

Michelle
Congratulations! I’ve never been to Australia either, but I’d love to someday. Good luck in your new life!

It seems like many people are moving on this year. Best wishes to all of you!

Lily

Hi, Tomo:
It’s very nice of you to say that. Yes, let’s try!
The third word is written by Anpanman’s writer Yanase Takashi. I found it by chance when I was a junior high student. I didn’t despair of life or anything, just in case, but it got to my heart.
It goes like this:

絶望のとなりに
だれかがそっと腰掛けた
絶望はとなりの人に聞いた
「あなたはいったい誰ですか」
となりのひとはほほえんだ
「私の名前は希望です」

Hi, Alex!
I’m glad to hear from you! You’re going back to school in the U.S.? Great! I was very impressed by the fascinating story on your study abroad before.
I wish you good luck and hope to hear from you sometimes wherever you are.

Hi Alex!
Thanks for your response! I was waiting for it. I worried about you and what I said. I thought that I might have put pressure on you. I really understand your point(about half of me is~). So that's OK, it's up to you. No matter if you join it or not, our relationship will not change, because I like you a lot! You gave me lots of things, courage, confidence, understanding, friendship, etc... Even though on the net, I'm grateful to you. If we meet at the event, I'm not going to ask your real name, where you live, what you do and things like that. I just want to talk with you.(知らない部分もあった方が、その分想像できておもしろいかな・・と思っています。)
By the way, are you going back to school in the US for a master's degree? Great! That's a big decision, isn't it? I know you are busy and will be busier, but please drop a line to us when you have time;-) I hope everything goes well with you!

Hi むらさき,
Thank you! Is it written by Anpanman’s writer? The third one is also good words! Thank you for sharing it. I'd love to keep it inside of me. むらさきが教えてくれた言葉はどれも素敵な言葉でした。 ちゃんと胸にしまっておきますね。 Thanks!

Hi David,
How are you doing? I forgot one more thing I wanted to write. Yes, you are a very lucky person. I think that finding a job that you really love is very very difficult. Actually, I am like your father. I worked in a bank, too. When I was young, I had no idea what I really want to do or become. I had something what I 何となく want to become, but I didn't think it was possible. So I want my children to find something they really want to do and become what they really want to. I think people who has a job that they really love is very lucky and happy, not very many, only a handful of people. But I think they have a lot of passion “情熱”. It's not just a luck. I want to help my children, like your father.

See you soon,

Tomo

Good morning! David,

Did you have a good weekend? My children's school has started. They looked very sleepy in this morning.(So am I!) My oldest son will graduate from elementary school in March this year. I hope he will have a lot of good time with his friends for the remaining months.

Look forward to your entry and your voice(the sound file).

Tomo

Hi, all

The weather in Hokkaido seems terrible. Hey, m.n, are you OK?

The name Blomily (from むらさき) is a good name, isn't it! It's cool to say ''We Blomilies are willing to do...'' or something. But here is another ploblem. If we use the word Blomily, the people who come to this blog for the first time are sure to look for the word in dictionary!

Hey, tomo, congratulations on your son's graduation this March! I am sure you feel both happy and sad about it. Happy because he is so grownup, sad because he is no more a kid and have to study harder in junior highschool.

By the way, I didn't know the word 'workshop' and looked for the word at 英辞郎. As '英語郎' and Kay said, it is fantastic. There are a lot of example sentenses and I understand it clearly at once. Thanks for the recomendation!

Hi, Panda:
Thank you very much for the comment! I do agree with you. So please forget Blomily!!

Thank you, Lily!!

Hi, David and Team! I'ts been a while since my last comment. I hope all of you are doing good.

Here I have a few questions for our new guest, Vick.

1 What do you think the advantage /disadvantage of teaching English is as the second language?

2 What will you do if your students have less motivation to study English? How will you take care of them?

3 What makes you charged when teaching English? When is the most rewarding moment in teaching?

Thank you!
