It doesn't matter with（前置詞はこれでいいのかな？） the spelling mistake.

Your entry would make us big smiles! I was reading your opinion with laughing. You are the best man who knows about women. But you know, women are very complicated and each is different. I want to make a comment soon but I don't have enough time to do it now. I will do it tomorrow.

Hi David,
Your 20-point plan is very very interesting!!
I laughed when I read your opinion, especially No.11. But I have some points which I cannot agree with you. For example, No.3(Special days are very important to women). I (am rare?) don't like who remembers or worries about every special day. I (maybe) feel about him "うわー....こまかっ". But .. so I'm a rare woman.

I think so.
It's not always true that "getting into a good company" make us happy. Yes, I know it. but I didn't care about the fact when I looked for a job.(but I like my job! Don't worry about it. but it may be my fault.)
My parents didn't tell me what a important to choose a partner or about "恋愛". But they teached me "人として大切なこと". I really thank them.

I think the most important thing is "You enjoy your class". I know teacher's mood(or emotion) reaches students.
By the way, I had teached English, too(家庭教師で). But, at the time, I couldn't tell the student fun of English. She hates English. But it's my fault, and I regret it.

But if I met someone doing ALL of those, I would never see him again. Why? Because too contrived to believe. Hmmm, what’s the catch? I even think the guy is not a man anymore.
I don’t know how to say it, but 何かちょっと違う気がする。ホストクラブ（行ったこと無いですけど）みたいな感じ？ I’m sorry I guess I’m not normal.

I'm happy to see your new entry today. I thought you would do a new entry tomorrow because I knew today was a public holiday. Did you work today? If so, お疲れさまです・・！

I enjoyed reading your 20-point plan with a smile and a laugh. You know well how to treat women. I was wondering, where did you get those idea? From your parents or your experiences? Your plan is really nice.(Maybe it is too good for Japanese men.) Do you follow the 20-point plan when you are dating? If Japanese men follow the plan, they may be perfect. But I don't need a perfect man. I don't hate that I feel lonely and jealous SOMETIMES when I am in love. That makes me love the man more. Special days are very important to women. But if the man remember my birthday, that's enough. 付き合って何年目、初めてキスした日・・、そういうのは男の人は覚えてないくらいがちょうどいいです。 About "When you get into a car, open her door and close it after she gets in", I am not used to this. If men do it every time, I will feel sorry.(申し訳ない気持ちになる） But if men open a door for me when I go into a restaurant or somewhere, I will be happy. About No.13, it's my husband. Do men like to keep changing channels on TV? I didn't know that.(主人だけだと思ってました。） You are right, I do not like it.

教えてくださ～い。（いつもテーマと離れていてごめんなさい。）
　息子は、今日、放課後、学校で大学生の人とReadingをすることになっていました。が、下の子を迎えに行ったら、一緒に帰りのお迎えを待っているではありませんか。「え？今日はReadingでしょ？」と言ったら「あっ忘れてた！」ということで、先生に「今日は、この子は放課後にReadingがあるはずなのですが…。」と言いたかったのですけど…。あわててHe is Reading class…と言いかけて、いやいや、これでは息子がReading　クラスになるじゃんと思い、言い直そうとしたら、先生はそれで分かってくれたようで、連れていってくれました。（こんな英語で分かってくださるのは、本当にありがたいです。）こういう場合He has Reading Class today. と言えば良かったのかな？There isを使うのでしょうか？私の頭ではこの二つしか出てこないのですが、ほかに良い言い方があれば教えて下さい？

多分、こんな感じで通じるんじゃないかと思うのですが、これらの後に、「He forgot about it.」等と言えば、先生にはちゃんと通じると思います。
でも、通じたのであれば、NO PROBLEM!

thanks for your comment. I've been busy, yes. But I've had those busy days many times before, and I wonder how I handled it then. Because I just feel like time is just slipping away between my fingers like sand... I was able to manage more stuff before. I guess I am getting old (lol) ! And sometimes things don't work out the way I wish. Sorry about my whining. But your words always lightens my stress on my shoulders. Thank ya!!

May be you can say "My son is supposed to have a reading today" or "My son is supposed to see a reading tutor today."
「be supposed to」で、「～することになっている、～のはずだ、本当なら～していなければならない」といった意味があるので、結構使えますよ。それこそ今回Kikoが、「なんて言えばよかったのでしょう？」というときも、What was I supposed to say? といえますよね。気づくと結構耳にする表現ではないかな？

そちらの冬はどうですか？世界的に暖冬の様子ですが…。体に気をつけて、Take it easy!

Good morning!　そろそろレポートも終わって落ち着いた頃なんじゃないかな～って待ってたよー＾＾もうm.nやAlexからいい表現が届いてるけど、こんな言い方もあるかも。。

・He should be in the reading class today.
(今日はリーディングのクラスがあるはずなのですが・・。）

Kikoが言った英語（He is reading）は進行形だから、もう決まっているはずのこれからの予定の感じがちゃんと伝わったんじゃないかな・・。　昔学校で｢今～しているところ｣と習った進行形は、実は未来の予定でよく使われるのです。　David の本によると、
I'm taking my driving test next month.
この言い方だと、テストの時間、場所などの詳しいことが全部決まっている感じが伝わるんですって。　だからもしかしたらそれで伝わったのかも・・？　それとも先生が予定を分かっててくれたのかしら・・？　焦ってても英語が口から出てくるっていうだけですごいと思うよ～＾＾
By the way, do you have to pick up your children every day? バスじゃないんだね～。

Hi David, Hi Everyone,

David’s 20-point plan made me laugh too :-) Especially No. 11 “dangerous questions” was funny, as nami said. You would say that example answer as a joke, right, David? If the guy said it seriously, I would kick him ;-)
There are some really good tips like planning for the date (No. 14) and really insightful points like realizing your mistake (No. 12), in my opinion, of course ;-) Yes, there are some points I cannot agree and some of them are probably because of cultural differences like opening car doors (No. 6) and special days (No.3). I agree with tomo on those points.
むらさき, I totally understand what you mean. I guess David would pull it off in a subtle way and he’s sharing his ideas with good humor here, but if I could see the guy thinking these things, it would be a huge turnoff!

ありがとうございます～。勉強になります。
　m.nが書いてくれていた中にHe has a reading class after school today?というのがありましたが、私が言い直していたら、たぶんこれを言っていたと思います。ただ帰りながら、これって、「彼はReading classを受け持っている」という感じになっちゃうのかなあなんて考えてしまったのですが、そんなことはないですか？
　Alexの教えてくれたsupposed toは、そういえば聞いたことがあります。使いこなせるようになりたい言葉です！
　Tomo～1月のレポートが終ったとたんに、ジョージワシントンの伝記の本を読んで、またまたレポートを出さないといけなかったの～。旦那と二人がかりで取り組みました。最後は「もう、なんでもいいから、とりあえず何か書いとこっ！」とむちゃいい加減になっていました。宿題きらい！！
　日本は暖冬だそうですね。こちらは2月に入って、とても寒いです。外に出ると凍ってしまいそうです。ぶるぶる…。今晩から、また雪が降るかもしれないみたいです。学校へは、送り迎えをしています。私がよく分かっていないのを先生方は知っているので、何かあったら、その時に声をかけてくださいます。「明日は学校休みだよ」とか「今日、こんな手紙が入っているよ」などなど。反対に分からないときには聞けるので、ここにいる間はバスではなくて送り迎えをしようと思っています。
　あさってはバレンタインですね。学校ではバレンタインパーティーがあります。カードにチョコを一つくっつけた物をクラスの人数分持っていきます。みんなで交換するみたいです。なにかにつけてパーティー、パーティーですよ～。

Tomo, you are only a year older! If I'm not old, you neither! At least I wish to stay young at heart, instead of "seemingly young but old at hear," since you can't stop aging... lol. Of course, I wish to look young forever...

Kiko, I understand your concern. でも、日本語でも先生が「これから○○の授業がある」といえば、そのクラスを教えることになるし、生徒が同じことを言えば、その授業を受けることになるのと同じではないかな…。話者や動作主が誰であるかによって明らかな今回のような場合は、敢えてteach/takeと言い分けなくても、haveでことが足りるような気がしますよ。どうかしら？

Hi, good to hear from you. Others already gave good answers to your question.
“have a class” については、「授業を受ける」でOKです。逆に教えている場合は “give a class”や “teach a class” と言うようにと以前ネイティブに教わりましたよ。でもAlexが言うように、“I have three classes today.” とかいう場合なら先生が言ってもOKなような気がしますけど、どうかしら？

I didn’t intend to talk about it here but I have a little teaching experience myself. So I do understand how you feel. I think that thousands of new teachers all over the world are feeling the same way at this moment ;-) And I’m sure most of the experienced teachers around you still feel the same way sometimes. I’ve never taught kids though. I think they are more difficult than adults in many ways. I admire you! Murasaki put it perfectly. No one can be good from the beginning. And it’s not just about learning how to teach. It takes time to get to know your students. It happens every time even when you get used to the job, because every student and every class is different. Take your time, m.n. 結局、どれだけ一生懸命になれるか、それしかないような気がします。That’s the best quality I think a teacher can have. I believe you have that in you. Now, just try to relax :-)

1, Accepting is better than understanding.
2, I would be happy, but some women feel kind of “うっとうしい”.
3, It depends on women.
4, When you give flowers to women, think about the time, the place. If you mistake them, they might be upset???
5, I agree with you
6, Before do that, think about how much a woman loves you. My cousin said to a man “Can you stop a car(突っ込んできた車を止められるの？)or that is no meaning, huh” when he is on the dangerous side to save her.
7, This is important to notice women changing something.

9, yes, (but both???)
10,Don’t practice how to listen, just listen!
11, You are right! It’s funny.
12, Yes, you must guess why women upset.
13, “I” want keep changing channels.
14, You can ask “what do you want to do?” and do what both of want to do.
15, I don’t think so. You must make opinions. That means you listen to women. But give women “winner”.(勝たせてください)

First of all, I want to say “Thank you soooooo much”. I made two classes for kids fun, kind of better today.
They looks like cheerful and sometime made smiles. I know I have lots of things I have to make much better for kids.
But I made better than last week. I feel like “何かがふっきれた”. This is because all of you guys help me!!!
本当に本当にありがとうございます。 This is my step. I keep going to do it!

Anyway, I’m going to my embarrassing story today. I tried to teach a word “sit” to 2 kids and speak it loudly again and again. However, I seemed I said “shit” with loud voice.
The 2 teachers was trying not to make laughs.
Do you understand what I said? I seemed to keep saying “クソ” again and again. It’s very important to pronounce correctly!

でも、haveについて質問された時、ドキッとしちゃいました（笑）. AlexやＬilyが答えてくれて、一安心でしたよ。でも、haveは「持つ」という意味意外にいっぱい使い方があると思います。
例えば、（知っているかもしれませんが）
I have a dog（犬を飼っている）.
I have a baby(赤ちゃんがいます)/ I had a baby（赤ちゃんを産んだ）
I have a plan(予定がある)
I have an idea(考えがある)
他にもいっぱいあると思います。
Anyone help us???

Good morning and thanks for your comment! I smiled when I read your answers about the 20-point plan. You are so cute! Then I laughed when I read your embarrassing story about "sit" and "shit".(sorry!) But I'm not sure if I can pronounce them correctly. I had to practice them.(思わず練習しちゃった(笑）） When I was a child, I loved a teacher who was not perfect but had lots of funny and interesting failure stories. He taught us(the class) with lots of passion. I still like him very much.
By the way, you are 仕事で疲れた男の後姿フェチ?(笑） I can understand that. その後姿を見ると思わず何かしてあげたくなっちゃうってことでしょ・・?　母性本能をくすぐられちゃうかも(笑） Of course I know it depends;-) Anyway, thanks for answering my question!

Thanks for your 20-point plan. Now I know what gentlemen are supposed to do.（わたしもsupposed toを使ってみました！） At the same time I realized that my husband had satisfied few when we hadn’t been married. But now he has learned a lot and does half of these without trouble.（自然に身についたようです･･･）

Good morning. Thanks for your embarrassing story. Though it's one of the curse words or so called the 4-letter words, your story sounded very cute. But now you know the correct pronunciation of the word "sit." Listen to this, m.n. This is a story of some Japanese actress, who I don't see lately. She studied in the US as a high schooler. She belonged to the drama club there or something. One day, they were performing a play in front of the entire school including teachers. She was given a line, which was the only line she was supposed to say in the drama and the line included the word "election." You know what happened. The moment she pronounced the word, the entire school burst into laughter! She pronounced the word with an "r" instead of an "l." You know what the word means? Terrible, huh?

Yes, we are pretty bad at differentiating L's and R's, S's and TH's. S's and SH's are also tricky for us, like seat/sheet, she/see. But listen again! I once visited an American family with a toddler. The baby boy was named Thomas and he pronounced his name like "Tomath." They seem to struggle with s/th, too, just like us.

I also wanted to say to you that my suggestion to Kiko was just an idea of mine. There are lots of other ways to say the same thing. And yours was also one of them. So, don't say what you said. You didn't make a mistake. Here's another saying that goes, "Two heads are better than one" or "Four eyes see more than two."

That's a good question. I seem to have dug a hole for myself (lol). Ummm... I like guys who smile often and grin broadly and widely without hesitation - those who express their feelings (especially pleasurable ones) through their gestures and facial expressions. Not necessarily physical traits... I used to have a thing about Italians - not too tall but fit, stylish, romantic, dark hair, ... But "those days are gone!" I like those who express their feelings well but not in a selfish way, men or women. Did I answer to your question?

私のhaveの質問でどきっとさせちゃって、ごめんね。これを聞くとm.nが嫌な気持ちになっちゃうかなとも思ってpostするのを一度やめました。でも、もやもやした気持ちが消えないのが嫌だったので、聞いてしまいました。それに、m.nならきっと分かってくれるだろうし、そういう時は迷わず聞きなさいって言ってくれそうな気がしたので…。だけど、質問して良かったです。そうなんだ～とすっきりしました。今度から、迷わず使えます。だから、ありがとうね！いっぱいいっぱい、ありがとう！haveって色んな意味があって、便利なようだけど、色々ありすぎて、こんなときにも使えるのかな？ってかえって迷ってしまうことが多い私です。

By the way, about the word "grin", I have never used it. I realized that English has many different words which mean “笑う”, like "smile", "laugh", "grin", "giggle", "chuckle", "sneer", etc... You wrote this "burst into laughter" in the comment to m.n(That was a funny story!), this is one of “笑う”. We also have many kinds of expressions of “笑う” in Japanese, but I think English has more. I said "I love a nice smile", but it didn't mean “ニコッ”, I meant a nice smile with joyful laughter. “笑う” だけでも難しい～。。

Kiko, 私にもまだまだ使いこなせない"have"がいっぱいありますよ～。 For example..
・I had my hair cut yesterday.(昨日髪を切ったの）
・I had my car repaired.（車を修理してもらった）
・Have it your way.(勝手にしなさい/好きにしなさい）
頭では分かっても、考えないと出て来ない・・!

Hi nami,
1.　きついということはないと思いますが、カジュアルな表現なので、フォーマルな場面には向かないと思います。特に、誘われたときの返事で言うときは、目上の人には失礼かなと思います。
2.　If it were not forは、「もし～がなかったら」という意味の決まり文句です。But forやWithoutに置き換えても同じですよ。（って高校の文法書そのまんまだな～）

私の考えは、blue dreamと同じです。
１． Why not?は、きついとは思いませんが、カジュアルかな、と思います。考えると、Whの疑問文はほとんどが、カジュアルっぽい気がします。・・・気のせいかな？？？
２． If it were not for～　＝ Were it not for～　＝ But for～　＝ Without～　この言い換えは、仮定法過去の問題で、大学入試必須！ですよね。「もし～がなければ」という意味で、forの意味は気にしないほうがいいのでは、と思います。

Hi all,

How was your Valentine's Day? Of course “I” enjoyed eating chocolate which I gave to my husband!!
This blog’s discussion goes fast. I can’t visit here so frequently　that my comment will go back to a discussion that has finished. I’m sorry for that. But writing my opinion about the David’s entry is good practice for me. Please forgive me.
As I was reading 20-point plan, I laughed same as other members and nodded to some of points with thinking “would be” “ should be”. ｢ある、ある｣と思わず納得しました。In this case, I can use to chuckle instead of to laugh, can’t I? いろいろな“笑う”があるけど、使いこなせません…。“見る”もいろいろありますよね。英語の本を読んでいるとよく出てくるけれど、ちゃんと調べないでそれらしき雰囲気で読み飛ばしてしまうのです。反省… Anyway, my first impression of David’s plan is how did David know a woman’s mind. He knows it almost perfectly!! But I don’t want men to react to a woman’s mind at all time. If a man was young and did it perfectly, I couldn’t trust his love. どなたか言っていた｢遊び人」って感じがしてしまいますね。 I like just “Honesty”. Actually, my husband used to be not good at treating women, but he is honest with me. That’s why I decided to get marred with him. And now he is getting old and he has learned more with his experience and he can satisfy me more. I remember panda said same thing, right? David suggests good point!! I suppose Western relationship between men and women is maturer than Japanese.
And it seems that all comments are from women. I want to hear men’s opinion!! I’m looking forward to hearing from men!! 男性の方のコメントも聞いてみたいです！！

Unfortunately, my parents who are in their mid 80s, are FDR democrats, and they still think that the Democrats are for the working man and that the Republicans are just for rich people. The actually believe what they hear on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC, as all they hear is republican bashing, and believing what they believe about democrats and republicans, thats what they want to hear. But they wont turn on FOX, because they tell me that they are always talking about the democrats on that channel. I try to inform them that maybe they should listen and research what they say, and if they find it to be true, maybe they should vote a different way. But people in that age group, they live in this comfort zone you see. They dont like to step out of it. Need everything to remain the same, and thats comforting to them. However, they are not getting the truth, and its sad.
