What every girl needs to know about men

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your comments about my list. Of course, I don’t always do all of those things, but if I had a son, I would teach him all of them. How did I learn all that? Partly from my parents, mostly from my own experience, but also quite a lot from reading. Someone already mentioned the book ‘Men are from Mars, women are from Venus’. If you haven’t read it, go out and buy it now! It is very, very interesting. The Japanese version is called 男は火星人、女は金星人, but it would be a good book to try to read in English because the language is not so difficult. Actually, that gives me an idea for another blog topic: we could all choose a book to read and read a few pages every day. If everyone is reading the same thing, you could ask for help with parts you don’t understand, and then we could all discuss what we have read. What do you think about that idea?

Mum and dad 2005.jpg

Baby%20David.jpg

I called my mother yesterday, but she was at work. I will try to get her to join us again next week. Here is a picture of her and my father taken last year at their home. If you ask her what I was like as a child, she will tell you that I was lovely until I was 4 years old. (Here is a photo of me when I was a baby.) She may also tell you that people thought I was a girl when I was very young. One of the disadvantages of introducing girlfriends to your mother is that she often tells them stories about when you were a child. In my case, most of these stories are very embarrassing! Young Japanese people don’t have this problem, I suppose.

Anyway, as Yuko-n suggested, our new topic is ‘men’. Ladies, if you had a young daughter of 14 or 15 who was starting to become interested in men, what advice would you give her? How about a young woman who was thinking about getting married? What advice would you give her about choosing a husband? I think this topic is much easier than the last one because men are much simpler than women. Look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Have a great weekend,

David

Comments

Hi David,

I will write about the new topic later, just let me say this, you were sooooo cute! What a lovely baby you were! No wonder that people thought you were a girl when you were very young. Your parents look very happy and have a wonderful view from the window.(Is that their garden?) I think you favor your father. Your father is putting his arm around your mother's shoulders. I like that about Western men.

See you later,

Tomo

PS Mothers often tell your friends, girlfriends or their friends stories about when you were a child. My mother often do it, too.(しかもかなり脚色して・・。) But you can't stop it because it is their pleasure.(楽しみ) I'd love to hear the "chocolate biscuits" story^^

Hi kiko,
You had a heavy snow there? I understand you. Snow is beautiful, but sometimes bring troubles. Did your kids go to school after two days off?
If the school closed, that mean you don’t have to do homework, right? Anyway, take care of yourself! You seem to be quite busy.

Hi Lily,
OK. I see. I don’t think you make embarrassing mistakes because you are smart person. I feel like that. But if something happens, tell me about it. OK???
“be for it”, each word is simple , but it difficult for me to use correctly…

Hi Yuko-n
Welcome to this blog!!!

Hi nami,
I just made a opinion for your question(lol) By the way, I couldn’t remember the grammar of NO2 in my high school days. That’s why I don’t know that. Thanks! You reminded me about the grammar.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for your kind comment to me! I have a job tomorrow. But it’s ok I like my job even though I have lots of problem, like teaching, making class…etc. And your words made me feel better. But I think you are more busy than me. Are you all right? You are going to walk a new heavy road soon(Does my English get across to you? Take care of yourself. I’m glad that you always care of me even in your hard days.

Hi David,
You are ssssssssooooooooooooooooooooo cute!
I understood your mother's feeling that she wanted to tell your friends about your early childhood. Another what I wanted to say is the same as tomo.
I can see your parents love each other.

Look forward to your "chocolate biscuits" story!

I will think about your question. It's hard to make a comment now. I'm doing it later.

Take care of yourself and have fun!

Hi David,
I like the photo of you when you were a baby. You were so adorable! I want such a lovely baby boy like you. Is it when you were about 9 months old? It’s remarkable that he had already had as much hair as you do now.(just joking!)
By the way, if I advised women about choosing husbands, it would be these:
1.(As Tomo and I suggested) A man who has lived by himself is better.
2.Don’t judge men only by appearance and salary. They don’t necessarily make you happy.
3.Check his behavior at his parents’ home and imagine how he would act if he married. Living together for a while would be the best way to find it out if you could. (But I wouldn’t suggest my daughter unless she wants to do so.)
4.What’s the most important is that choose a man who has the same values as yours. Especially, the sense of money is important when you live with someone.

Hi everyone,
I found the blog by chance as I was searching for homework materials for my students. I must say this is very interesting, even has a beautiful baby picture! As for your topic questions, I would say
1.Date a lot with different guys. ( no need to have a long term relationship when she is still young)
2.Never get married for love. ( marriage is much more complex than just being in love)
3.Choose a husband who is financially independent (she does not deserve someone depend on her).

okay, enjoy your weekend!

Hello David,
How are you these days? Do you get well??
BTW, you were soooooooooooo cute when you were a baby!! And your parents' photo is good, too. Do you sometimes go back home? How is your home?

It is a good idea that we read the same thing (at same time). And this charenge itself is very interesting, I think. I'm going to do same thing (perhaps on the other site) when the 7th "Harry Potter" was published. Anyway, I'll buy "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus".

Hi Blue Dream,
I agree with you, Especcialy No.3.
And his parents is important, too I think. Because he might make(made) his opinion "夫婦とはこういうものだ" duaring he has(had) lived with them.

I spent my (this)weekend at work :'-(

nami

>I spent my (this)weekend at work :'-(
→I spend this weekend working.

Hi David,

How are you doing?
The idea about that we read the same book and discuss what we have read is very nice, as long as the book is interesting. But it might be difficult for some people to read a book every day. For my part, I read when I feel like to it, not every day. But doing the same thing at the same time and talking about it with blog family is really nice.

Anyway, here is my plan to help young ladies.

1. Accept what your lover loves and try to understand it and say nice things about it.
2. When men are doing something he loves, leave him alone. Don't interrupt him, just wait and see.
3. When men do something nice and sweet to you, always say "thank you" with a smile. Show your appreciation.
4. If your lover gives you a ring or a necklace or something, always wear it when you date with him.
5. Don't wear too much makeup.
6. When you are with your lover, don't compare him with other men. If you do it in your mind, never say a word about it.
7. When men are sick, he goes into hypochondriac mode. So be nice to him than usual. Show that you feel sorry for him.

My advice about choosing husbands are almost the same as Blue Dream. Just one more thing,
Choose a man who is always on your side, no matter what happens, no matter what anyone says, even if the "anyone" is his mother or his father.
Don't choose a man who'd been brought up by a perfect mother who waits hand and foot on him. You will have to be his mother.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Tomo

PS Nami, I would say, "I have to work this weekend".

tomo

"I have to work this weekend"
Sounds good! Thank you for your advice!!

I'm working hard now because I want to have a rest tomorrow. and I want to go to bookstore to buy "Men are from Mars,~" :-)

hi there sorry i did not reply last i was not very good at understanding what i had to do
the snow has now gone and we have lovely sunshine to-day.
David was a lovely little boy until he was four years then i had to start to control him.But he has grown up ok now
his father and i are going out for a meal to night
our litlle grandson came to see us last week , he is now crawing everywhere -nothing is safe -we will have to keep an eye on him
i wll try to answer any questions you have for me
hear from ssoon

delyth

Tomo, you are a perfect wife!! All husbands would be happy if wives are like you!

Anyway, here is my advice.
Before marriage:
1. Always listen to what boys are saying. Boys like to say what the life should be or what they are going to do in the future.
2. Boys like the girls who laugh merrily to their jokes.
3. Show that you are weak. Boys like to be strong before girls.

After marriage:
1. Always cook a delicious meal. Husbands are happy if they eat delicious meal.
2. Listen to his complaining about his colleague or his boss. Say that he is great to bear that.(我慢して、えらい!
3. Say your gratitude if he helps you.

About reading a book together, I am not sure if I join. I might join if I am really interested in the book chosen.

see ya!

Hello everyone!
Im a new here, and I'm not good at English.
So I think I should be here everytime and talk to guys. Sometimes you couldn't understand what am i trying to say. Becuase of my English is poor.
And be my friends, if you dont mind.

(初めまして。最近英語に興味がでて勉強してる高校一年生です。まだ文法とか全然使い方がなってないとおもいます、もし間違ってるとこと見つけたら報告お願いします^^;

Hi Mrs. Barker,

Thank you for your reply! I'm happy to see you comment again. When babies are crawling everywhere, nothing is safe. That's right! I can imagine it well because I have 3 children(two sons and a daughter). My youngest daughter is 3 years old now, so she's passed that stage already. My mother often says that how sweet grandchildren are(She has five grandchildren). She says "Grandchild is the apple of my eye. " What do you think about this? Is it true for you too?
By the way, I'd like to hear some funny and sweet stories when David was a lovely little boy. How about the "chocolate biscuits" story? He told us this story a little before. He said that he used to melt chocolate biscuits in his hands and then wipe the chocolate in his hair. But he said that it was not true. Would you tell us the truth? Or some other these kinds of stories? I know he would say "No, please!", though.(laugh and loud).
Look forward to your comment!

Hi Panda,
Thanks for your comment! But I'm not such a perfect wife(lol). I just wrote what makes my husband happy. I know it well;-).
Let me add one more thing to my plan to help young ladies.

8. When men are talking about something he loves, just listen to it nicely. It doesn't matter if you understand it or not. Men's faces are so cute, especially their eyes, when men are talking about it. Enjoy it!

Hi Max and Tosh,
Welcome to the blog! Now, you two are members of our blog, so keep posting your comments!
Tosh, you are a high school student and in the first grade? You may be 15 or 16, I guess. Have fun at the school and challenge many things!
By the way, you wrote this “もし間違ってるところを見つけたら報告お願いします”. Well.., can I give you some advice?
I'm a new here → I'm new here
what am I trying to say → what I am trying to say (何かにくっ付いて出てくると、W(what, when, who など) or How の後ろの語順は普通の文と同じになります。
Because of my English is poor. → because of my poor English or Because my English is poor. (But I don't think your English is poor!)
I wrote this as your friend(^_-)-☆ I'm looking forward to hearing more comments from you. By the way, you are a boy or a girl? I couldn't find it out from your name, sorry.

Bye for now,

Tomo

Hi, Tosh. Nice to meet you!

Sometimes you couldn't understand what am i trying to say
→Sometimes you may not understand what I am trying to say

All husbands would be happy if wives are(→were) like you!
Boys like to be strong before (→in front of) girls. beforeではないですよね!
Colleague (→co-worker)

Blog family
Is my English correct? Did I get the meaning across?

Hi Nami, Tomo,
Thank you for agreeing with my idea.
I wrote “choose a man who has the same values(価値観) as yours.” I remember Prince Naruhito(今の皇太子殿下) mentioned the same thing as a condition of princess when he was single. I really agreed with him, though I was very young. I think it’s true whether you are male or female.

Hi Panda,
I think ‘colleague’ is OK.

Hi Mrs. Barker
Hello! I’m happy to hear from you again. My mother also loves her grandson and always keep her eyes on him. So she gets tired after his going home. Also, he is so cute for all our family.
Anyway, I’d like you to tell us about David when he was early young.

Please take care of yourself and your husband!

Hi David,
I was thinking about your question.
1, A man who has lived by himself(As tomo and Blue Dream suggested)
2,A man who has the same values as yours(As Blue Dream suggested)
3,A man who don’t take out loan except for car and house
4,A man who react with a big heart when I have problem and trouble
5,A man who I want to stay with in my life
6,A man who don’t co-sign for someone
7,A man who can make a opinion(A man who say “yes or ok” every time is dangerous)

Anyway, I should learn how choose a man from the team instead of thinking…

Hi max and tosh,
Welcome to this blog!

Tosh,
I don’t think your English is poor, either. We understood what you wanted to say!
Let’s help each other in this blog!

Thank you for giving me an advice. I'm appreciatetd for all. And now, I must study English alot. I had alot of mistake. I'm not good at grammer.
But, I like Engish very much. So I will keep posting a comment.
And I have quetsion for everyone.
What is the best way to study english?
How do you study English?

Oh, I alomost forgot to say. Tomo you asked me boy or girl. Im a boy.

Hi Tosh,

How are you doing? You must be at school at this time.
You asked us "What is the best way to study English?" I don't want to let you down, but I have to tell you this. There is no "best way" to study. In other words, any way is fine. So you have to find out your own best way and keep doing it every day. You are studying English almost ever day at school, right? Well, TAKE your English classes, not receive. Do you have an English teacher who is native speaker at school?(When I was in high school, we called the teacher "AET".) If so, try to talk to the teacher as much as possible.(もしネイティヴの先生がいないなら、日本人の英語の先生でもいいと思うけど、これはちょっと恥ずかしいかな・・? You have good chances more than I do, so use it well. And keep reading this blog and writing your comment as much as you can. When you read English, do it aloud. David records the blog for us and give us the sound file when he has time, so you can listen to the real English. Read and listen to it again and again and try to copy it. I think it will help you a lot. You can study English everywhere, not only at a desk.
So Tosh, find your own best way and keep it up!

Have a nice day at school.

Tomo

Hi David,

Dear team

panda
thanks a lot!

Hi Nami,

Hi tomo,

Hi all,
It's Monday again. I am struggling against this sleepiness as usual... It's good that we have some new members coming in. Welcome, Max and Tosh.

Nami,

Tomo,
I thought you would be the first person to answer Tosh's question. Bingo! I agree with you about how to study English effectively.

By the way, it's been (quite?!) a while since we were high-schoolers (almost 1.5 decades ago! How scary!!!), but they seem to call those assistant English teachers (AET's) "JET's" nowadays (at least in my hometown). Did you know that? JET stands for the Japan Exchange and Training Program, but those who come to Japan on this program are also called JET's For example, if you are one, you can say, "I am a JET."

Tosh,
Welcome to the blog. Let's join the club! You have much better understanding of English than I did at your age.

I agree with Tomo about the best way to study the language. I think it's a good thing to get lots of advice from different people, though. But it's your job to come up with the best way for you, not for somebody else. I also think it depends on what you want to do with English.

But I think this is a very good start. Become a regular here by posting your comments often and ask questions if you have any. Somebody (usually not one or two persons, but many) will answer your questions.

Hi, all

I'm very surprised and appreciated that my idea has been chosen!!THNX, David-san.
and I read many advices how to choose the best guy. I'm sure It's very useful for all of girls!!
I gonna also think these points, and post them.

Hello Mrs. Barker,
Thank you for joining us! David was so cute as a baby! He’s grown up to be an excellent teacher and good friend for us :-)

Hi Max
Welcome to this blog! Look forward to hearing from you again.

Hi Tosh
Welcome! It’s really great that you start learning English “actively” like this in your young age. It’ll make a huge difference in the near future. Tomo gave you good advice. She’s like a caring big sister, isn’t she? ;-) Well, I’m a lazy one, but if I would give you one practical piece of advice, I would recommend NHK’s radio English programs. It’s almost free, and you can always choose a suitable program for you, and it can become your pacemaker. If you already do that, keep it up! Anyway, let’s have fun with English together :-)
One correction from me. You might want to say, “I appreciate it all.”

Tomo
You always take good care of the blog members. Thank you! I realized once again that it’s because of the people like you that this blog is so successful.

Nami,
Don’t worry too much, because I don't ;-)

Lily

P.S. I posted this comment on the last thread by mistake, so I'm reposting here. Sorry!

Hi Alex,
Ha ha ha, you bingo! But I couldn't click the post button easily this time. Because he is young and I thought that he believed that there was best way to study and wanted to know it, just like I did. I thought like this, "If I say this, I would let him down.", like “がーん!” It took me a long time to give up finding the magical good way(lol).
By the way, it's almost 1.5 decades ago!? No.., don't touch on that part.(笑) And thanks for your information about "JET's", I didn't know that. But it sounds like “飛行機”, doesn't it?

Hi Lily,
Thanks for your comment and this word "big sister", not "mother"(笑) Good one!;-)

Tomo

Hi Nami,

Hi David,

See you soon,

Tomo

Hi David,
I'm very happy to hear "よくなってきている".
Thank you!!

Hi Team,
Thank you so much for your kindness!!

Hi Tosh
Well come to this blog!! And nice to meet you.
I think your challenge(=posting comments to this blog) is very good for you. You will want to know more and more about English. So this desire(wish) leads you to study grammar and words, etc..
Let's study & enjoy English!!

Hi tomo, alex
I called a foreign English teacher "ALT" when I was a junior high school student. "ALT" stands for "Assistant Language Teacher", you know. "AET" is similar to "ALT", isn't it? "ALT" might includes "AET", but not limited to "teach English". But I've never meet ALT who teach language without English :-)

Well come → Wellcome

Hi David and all,
(I’m sure. Right?)

Hi Nami,
You don’t need to be worried anything. BTW, you are still at your office? I can’t believe it. If I were you, I would be thinking about quitting the job(lol). Anyway, I’m happy to write comments despite of your hectic situation.

Hi tosh,
How are you, today? Can I tell you something about learning English in Japanese?

Thank you everybody!!!!
I will keep come here, and read a comments that from everybody.
And I didn't now that David's mom is posting comment here.I want talk to her someday.
And Tomo, you always giveing me advice, and it help me alot. Thank you very much.

And I have a quetsion for tomo.
what do you mean by "I don't want to let you down"

Hi Tosh,

Good morning! And thanks for your question.
"I don't want to let you down" は「がっかりさせたくはないんだけど・・」という気持ちで書きました。

『You can't stop the waves from coming, but you can learn to surf.

(むらさき、ayako、最近どうしてるの~?I miss you!)

We always welcome you all!

Tomo

You can't stop the waves from comig, but you can learn to surf.

Nami,
thanks for the info. I've never heard "ALT." It sounded like a new version of BLT (a hamburger) with Avocado, Lettuce, and Tomato, instead of Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato!! ;-D Well, I think the JET program is the official name for the program those ALT's and AET's are on, (Not too sure...lol! Sorry.)

Tosh,
Tomo, m.n., Lily had a really good point. We should first utilize what's available to you(先ず身の回りにあるものを活用する), instead of seeking something that's not at hand at the moment(今手元にないものを求めずに). You can improve your English skills without paying a fortune for the famous English conversation schools or after-school cram schools. Among many, this blog site is one really good way to learn English through. What's good about this site is that you get responses immediately. When you have the answer to somebody's question, you would feel like helping out the person in return.

Tomo,
how do you remember everybody's profile? Do you keep notes on the members, or what? I'm also wondering how Murasaki and Ayako are doing... Drop us a line when you get a chance.

There's an external audit going on right now. They are in the meeting room right now, but they may come out and interview us. I am very nervous! Don't come ask me tricky questions!!! Please keep your fingers crossed for me...

Alex, sure! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! I will write back to you later;-)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks, Tomo, for that message to Tosh. (and hi Tosh). Tomo wrote

What a great idea for a topic! Let's do that with the next entry.

See you again tomorrow.

Hello everyone!
Tomo and alex, thank you for asking! I checked this blog everyday, but the reason I had not commented is that I neglected studying
English... :-( Self-education makes always(or easily) me lazy. But I know this depends on the person. Recently, I thought why my writing a sentence in English would take much time like this, and I became fed up.
When I read everyone’s comment of encouragement to Tosh, I could shift my feelings a little. Thank you everyone! I think that the person who comments every time is wonderful, even if they are so busy with child care or work. m.nの言う通り、続けるという努力をしなければ何も上達しないよね。
I think I should make this my motto!

Hi David,

Hello David,
I'm looking forward to your next topic!

Hi tomo,
Yes! I'm a worker and I try to learn English :-))
And I am one of computer programmers. If I have a chance, I would like to write about myself at(on? in?) my ALCBLOG.

Hi m.n,
I usually work from 10am to 10pm. But it is not rare that I work for 14 hours a day. I often have a "development deadline"(I'm a programmer!),you know. So I'm busy about 70% of the year.(残りの30%は9:30出社7時前退社を目標にしてます(笑))Do I want to quit my job?? The answer is "donno" :-). But I'll keep the job "あと1年は", at least.
Thank you for caring me!!

Hello ayako,
I'm grad to see you again!
But I'm not good at the point..

Hi Everyone,

Alex-How was the interview? I hope everything went well.
Ha ha ha, I don't keep notes on the members. I don't know why, but I just 何となく remember them. Maybe I'm interested in everyone very much and always imagine what they like.

Ayako-Welcome back! Me too, Ayako. It still takes me so much time to write my comment in English, even after all those comments. I always think about that I want to communicate with David and everyone, but sometimes I'm tired of writing in English. 。)

Nami-You are a programmer? I'm not good at computers. But you work too much! Take care of yourself;-)

David-Thanks for your comment. I have many regrets about my high school days. I wish there was a time machine. But I can tell my children about it so that they will not make the same mistake as me. I hope they understand it.
PS 明日ギブスが取れますように・・!See you again tomorrow.

Tomo

Tomo, I really want to see you in person and talk over things... You sound like a profiler! さすが mommy of three children!

About the interview, it took too much time for them to go over tons of documents witht the management, so they ran out of time to come out to interview us.

Ayako! It's OK to stop and get some rest. But just don't walk away. Everybody who post comments in English are feeling the same from time to time. But "practice makes perfect." Though we don't need to be perfect, we can come close to it by practicing. But we need to keep in mind that no one can keep going all the time. When you're feeling low or worn out, do other things for a change.

Nami, you are a programmer! No wonder why! You must be dealing with English all the time! Don't work too hard! I stare at the computer screen all day long, even though I'm not a programmer. And I suffer from eyestrain, stiff neck and shoulders all the time!

Hi tomo,
What’s a smart you are! You have the profile of this team??? I sometimes feel like envy of you because you have many skills I don’t have, like the power of seeing other’s hearts, summarizing what everyone think, taking care of others, giving good advices to others…I can’t write down anymore… Now I have a problem. I can’t catch what people want to say in English(even Japanese) during conversation. I fail to understand them. You don’t understand the type of person like me, right? I seem like to have another world… Thanks for introducing myself as a teacher to tosh. But I have lots of problems about it. I want to say “Training makes big power (私にも・・・)for anything”. Anyway, you are incredible. Your face is getting turn red???

Hi Alex,
Recently, I use dictionary when I read comments written by you (and someone). Can you tell me how you learn vocabularies, especially before going to America to stay? How I learn them is to find words I don’t know in this blog, books, conversations and just remember them. I can tell some advises to others, but… I’m sorry I asked you stupid question.
By the way, I’m happy the interview was going well. Yes, you always behaves good.

Hi nami,
Are you a programmer? Wow, it’s fantastic. Now I understood why you are always in a busy. Some of my friends is programmers. It’s hard and heavy job, is it? But it’s cool.

Hi Ayako,
I must make this words stay with me. Only one thing I keep going is to make comments in this blog. That’s good, right?

Hi David,

Hi tea,
I didn't see you for a while. Take good care of yourself!

Hi, Tomo, alex and everyone!
Thank you very much for thinking of me.
Please don’t worry about me if I don’t comment for a few days. As I mentioned before, just think
Well, actually I've been out of town and away from the computer for the last few days, which is why I have not posted.
As ayako and Tomo said, it takes me so much time to write my comment in English, by the way. So I was soooo happy to find alex’s comment「日本語だってOKなんだし!

Welcome, max. Your students are really lucky to have a teacher like you.

Welcome, Tosh:
You’re very very lucky.

no name one is me. my name was missing.

Hi everyone,
How are you doing today? This morning, the temperature is 0 degree. I feel it's so warm.

Hi Ayako,

Hi, everyone.
How are you doing? I have a cold. It's a little hard to breathe when effect of medicine get losen a step and I have to open my mouth widely to get air. I feel like becoming a carp. So good care of yourself!

Hi, m.n.
Thank you for caring me. I've just been being terribly busy. I get home about one in the morning almost every day and don't have time to write something good. The worst thing is my situation isn't worst case of our project members.

Hello ;-)
Hey look what I did. This is first time to use face mark. Who cares.
The first time I saw that thing(face mark).
I didn't get what is it. But now I get it, It's face mark.
Anyway, I have quetsion for yo all.

I have a dream. I want to be Cameraman.
I want to make a film for Drama or something like that TV program. This is not quetsion yet.
Here is my quetsion.
Which do you think the best way to become Cameraman.College or Technical College.
I have no idea which way is the best. I should decide it by myself, but I want to hear your comment. Becuase, you have alot of experience.
And some of you are go to college, or graduated college.
What am I thinking is, I should go Tech college and learn how to use a Camera. And I can get a skill of camera.
But a colleg, they don't have a subject of Camera.
So if I want to be a Cameraman.

,,,,,,,,AH---My head is messed up..
From now on, I'm going to speak in Japanese.

すみません。英語で全部書いてみようと思いましたが。全然無理だった。それと、少しおかしいGrammerとかあると思いますw気づいたら教えてください^^;

Hi, tea!

Gah!! Gosh!
Are you all right? You should take care of yourself!

I missed you so much that I almost became purple panda! ( as Lily imagined)

panda: Where are you from in USA?

Hi, Tea

m.n., good morning! Don't get worked up about your teaching skills. You've just begun! Just like becoming a mother - they are not born to be mothers. They become mothers only after they have children and they grow into good mothers as their babies grow.

About vocabulary - this is completely my personal opinion... Having said that, I think learning lots of idioms will help improve your conversation skills or your ability to express yourself a lot. (And it eventually broadens your vocabulary, I believe.) Idioms are usually made up of easy terms. Sometimes you can easily guess what they mean, but sometimes what you imagine is completely different from what they really mean. It's very interesting.

Gosh, I can't think of good examples off the top of my head right now. But it's boring to just memorize them from text books. So, I usually learn them from newspaper articles written in English. Fortunately, you have access to most major English newspapers online such as BBC, CNN, or Japan Times and so on. I started with smaller articles that were easy to read. That's how I learn idioms and vocabulary. It's getting too long again. I have to wrap up!

tea, are you OK? They say chicken soup is good for colds in America. Keep warm and take a good rest.

Kiko, how are you and your family doing? How's everything going?

Hi Everyone,

I'm happy to see your comments, Kiko, Tea!

Alex, they ran out of time?Good for you! And me too! I really want to see you in person, too!

m.n, are you all right? You seemed to be very tired and feel uneasy.. You are right, it's true that I have something you don't have, but this is also true that you have many things I don't have. It's true. About my you-called-it-skill, it's just a mother's job. Just imagine babies, they can't speak, but they tell mothers what they want by crying. When they start to talk, their speeches are just like 宇宙語 or something. Anyone can't understand it, except their own mothers. Do you remember? I said this to you before, “そのままでいてください” I want to say it again. Just the way you are!(ビリージョエルの歌~(^_-)-☆)

I remember you said this before, “just think 酔っ払って寝ているに違いない”. But.. but.., it's difficult for me!

I can't believe that!

Tea, are you OK? Don't push your self.

Tomo

m.n.
I may not know you in person but I can tell you have a caring heart. You don’t need to be all knowing, knowledge or people’s feelings. Your caring attitude and sometimes your flaws make you ACCESSIBLE. That is very very important.
About vocabulary, I agree with Alex. It’s boring just to memorize it. Checking new words in the dictionary when you read is a good way to build up your vocabulary. You don’t need to do it all the time. If you forget them, never mind. If you run into the same words many times you will inevitably learn them, which also means those words are worth remembering. I also recommend reading English materials online as Alex said. But I found that English news articles tend to use many different words including really difficult ones. So I would recommend you start with short materials for English learners like the ones on ALC’s website.

Hi Murasaki, Hi Panda,
Murasaki, don’t make Panda a purple panda! LOL
I’m not trying to push you but I love your comments, both of you. No, no, I’m not pushing … ;-)

Hi tea,
You are terribly busy! It looks like a cold is going around. Please take care of yourself!

Hi nami,
You sound busy too. And computer programming sounds cool too! Take care.

Kiko, Ayako,
I’m always happy to hear from you. Please write comments in Japanese when you don’t feel like writing English. That’s good for everyone, I think. I for one just try to practice writing English. I once tried to mix some Japanese into English when I wrote in this blog, as I told Kiko before, I believe, but I found it quite difficult. My brain just doesn’t handle bilingual, either Japanese or English only is much easier. Sorry!

Kiko, Alex,
Lots of vaccine shots, huh? Poor girl! I hate shots too! I always feel sick when I have my blood taken :-(

Hi Everyone,

See you tomorrow.

Hi David,

Look forward to your new entry.
See you tomorrow,

Tomo

Hi Kiko,
Thank you for your comment!
I can’t write in English well.→イライラする→I give up writing in English.→I can’t improve my writing in English→I can’t write…(endless!)
I can’t believe it!!!

Hi alex & m.n,
I wanted to know how you got substantial vocabulary, too(like m.n asked). Like alex and Lily who experienced studying abroad, I felt that their vocabulary was different from others who don’t study abroad. m.n (←自分に言い聞かせてる)I think we need a lot of time and experiences to improve our vocabulary. One more thing, I agree with tomo, she recommended ALC’s website. I like “英語で話そう! This is very interesting one.

Hi tomo,
Thank you very much for your comment. I can relax a little and get to write in English little more everyday!

Ayako, good to hear from you back!

Hi all,

Tosh

Hi tea,
How are you doing? You might don't have enough time to take care yourself. You look very busy.

Hi, kiko;
I hate shots!!!

Hi, panda;

Hi, Tomo;
I’m home! Right now I’m not gonna tell you where I was. Because if someone in my office reads this,

Hi, Lily;
Who created a purple panda, YOU or me, by the way?

Hi, David;

Hi David wearing “ブラ”(ここは日本語にしないと、お母さんショックで気絶しちゃうから).

Anyway, I’m looking forward to your next entry!!!

Hi all,
Today, I spent 30 minutes until writing this comment after finished your comments. Because my eyes getting wet… you know, I mean? Thank you for your warm comments. When I met problems, I always asked your helps. Because you all are so kind and give me exact words I need, but I can’t find. I seem to get sensitive mind recently.(It’s not serious, so I’m ok). I got the same advices everyday in my company because I don’t make any changes. I have more 6 days to get how to teach and make classes. It’s not enough, but I’m going to make it “enough”. I’m doing most of stuff very slowly. But I just do it(今年の合言葉?)

Hi tea,
How’s your feel? You work so harder. All I can say now is to take a good rest and have good foods. I hope you will be better soon.

Hi kiko,

Hi tosh,

Hi panda,
My vocabulary is not enough to work… It’s just enough for traveling(but I don’t have enough money for it).

Hi Alex,
Thank you for sharing very useful the way to learn Vocabulary. I noticed I have a few idioms. That’s why I always get confused during conversation even it said in simple English. You seem like to see my conversation in my company. You found exact problem about me. Recently, I read “Economist” on the internet. It’s too difficult for me, but I find easy articles and try it or read a book written by English. Thank you!
By the way, are you a translator? If you don’t want to talk about your job, just go through my question.

Hi tomo,
Thank you for telling me about mother’s job. It’s hard for me to figure out what mothers think. I need skill to talk with mothers who have kids. ビリージョエル最高でしょ?JUST THE WAY YOU ARE. Thanks a lot!

Hi Lily,
Thank you for your words.
“your flaws make you ACCESSIBLE”この部分教えてください。
I’m doing what you and Alex told me. Thank you. One of my harder job is to translate what native speakers says to the beginners with more simple English. Actually, it is really heavy job to understand what native speaker says. “Oh my god”

Hi Ayako,
Thank you for your information.

Hi nami,
I’m sure you are cool!
I want to say to you “体が資本です”. Take care of yourself!!!

Hi David,

Hi Tomo,
The temperature is fact. It's too cold!! I've got just a bit acold. But I'm not too bad. Don't worry.

Hi Alex, Lily, Ayako,

Hi Tomo,
You have a good memory! You sound like you remember everything about us. I wonder what your impression of me is.
Reading your comment about team, I started to miss the people who used to be regulars. ひかるり, can, Ash, NZ, iun, etc….I wonder how they are doing.

Hi alex,
It’s been a while since I talked to you. What kind of audit was going? Could it be an audit of ISO or Privacy Mark? Audit usually means audit by accountant, though. If no, please forget it.

Hi nami,
I used to work at a software company and I saw many programmers. They worked irregularly like you. Now I know they were no exception. Or could you be one of them?!

Hi kiko,

Ayako and Alex,

m.n.
“your flaws make you ACCESSIBLE”
これはm.n.

Blue Dream,
Yes, it's bee a while. I was aware that you've been posting comments from time to time, maybe not as often as before though. How have you been? How's your kid doing?

As you guessed, it was ISO auditing. Actual auditors from the ISO office came over to audit our QC/QA system. They usually seem to interview employees and ask questions to find out if each and every worker is aware of the system and how they are contributing to it through their daily work. But they spent too much time going over the documents and didn't come interview us. Phew!

Lily,
I would like to know more about your story, if you feel like sharing it sometime... I'm especially curious about what brought you there at age 30. Please understand, I don't mean to emphasize the age, but it must have been a big decision. And I do understand what you mean. Some pick up the language quickly, while others don't. And fluency doesn't go together with the ability to pronounce beautifully, which I find very interesting. And the fact that you've stayed in a foreign country for a while and can understand/speak the language doesn't mean that you understand anything spoken/written in the language, right? But there are just too many that don't understand this, don't you think?

m.n,
yes I am! I translate boring instruction manuals and stuff... lol! I used to be a bit geeky about idioms as a student. I felt so happy as I encountered a new idiom and jot it down in my little notebook. I doubt if it did any good to my studying English, because the notebook didn't really come in handy when I needed. I could spot them in my notebook (lol)!

Hi, Tosh

Which do you think the best way to become Cameraman.

Hi, Blue Dream
Thanks for telling me that ‘Colleague’ is OK!

Hi, tea

Hi Everyone,

I'm in a good mood today. Because..

。 Take care!

Tomo

Oh!!
Thank you for giveing me alot of comments.
Now,It's time to think it by myself.I got a lot of information from everybody. And it would help my dicision.

I have no Idea how hard is that、but I belive I can do that if I study hard.
So I'll buy refernece as soon as possible. And I'll study with it.

And Mr. David Parker.

Oh, I posted a comment twice. Its mistake.
And I have quetsion.
What does "be my guest"
I'm pretty sure it's idiom, but I don't know that mean.

Hi Tosh,

Haven't you read the new entry "Our family" yet? David did it yesterday. You'll get the message from David.
By the way, you can call him "David" or "Mr. Barker", not "Mr. David". But I'm sure he doesn't mind if you call him just "David".

Be my guest here.
Be my guest.
