Dreams (2)

Hi Team,

Thanks for sharing all your dream stories. I guess nobody really understands why we dream or what our dreams mean. When I was a child, I remember someone saying to me, “How do you know that dreams are really dreams? Maybe the dreams are your real life, and the time you think you are awake is actually a dream.” Wouldn’t it be interesting if that were true! Sometimes my dreams seem so real that I am really surprised when I wake up. One of my worst nightmares is a dream that I am on my way to my own wedding, but I don’t want to get married. I feel completely helpless because I have to get married and I can’t run away. I have had this dream about 3 or 4 times, and I always wake up sweating and frightened, but I feel so happy when I realize it was just a dream. Maybe that is why I have never got married!

When I was a child, I really wanted a motorbike, but my parents couldn’t afford to buy one for me. One night, I had a dream that someone had given me the bike I wanted and it was in my garage. The dream seemed so real that when I woke up, I was almost crying when I realized it wasn’t true! But now I have lots of bikes, so I don’t need to cry any more. Yaay! Actually, if I do something that involves speed (like riding a bike or skiing), I often replay it in my head when I go to sleep and my body moves around as if I am actually doing that activity.

Do any of you talk in your sleep? I think I do, but not always. Actually, that’s a bit scary – I might tell someone all my deepest secrets! How about sleepwalking? Does anyone do that? I remember once when I came back from a party late at night and met my brother in the kitchen. He was fully dressed, and he was holding the car keys. I said, “Where are you going?” but he didn’t answer me. Actually, he didn’t seem to be seeing me at all. Then he turned around and went upstairs. When I spoke to him in the morning, he couldn’t remember anything. He had been sleepwalking. We were lucky that I stopped him before he started sleep-driving!

Anyway, I am feeling a lot better now, so I’m looking forward to the weekend. I hope you all have something nice planned, and I will see you again for the next topic on Monday. (If you have any ideas for the next topic, please let me know).

Bye for now,

David

Hi David and Everyone,

David - “How do you know that dreams are really dreams? Maybe the dreams are your real life, and the time you think you are awake is actually a dream.” That's very interesting! What if that were true?
About your motorbike dream, you were almost crying? You were so cute!(But ‘almost’?) You've loved bikes since you were a child, haven't you? You are right, you don't need to cry any more!
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you are feeling a lot better.

Pink NY - Thanks for your reply! You're thinking of learning Spanish as your third language? Good for you! My friend is also studying Spanish.

Kawa - Thanks for your reply! 。

Panda -

Anne - Thanks for the explanation about 'dreamt' and 'dreamed'. I didn't know that!

I have to go to hospital to have medical checkups which is called 人間ドック for the first time. I'm a bit nervous..

Good night and see you soon,

Tomo

Hi, Tomo;

Hi,David
I am glad that you are getting better .
Thank you for re-writing my sentence.

Hi, Tomo and Murasaki
Thank you for talking about 'deja vu'.
That reminds me the story with my daughter.

Hi,Pinky NY
Nice to meet you.

Hi, Kawa
Nice to meet you. I read your interesting story about dreams.

Hi, Mac and Saydo
Thank you for showing how to improve the listening skill.

Hi, anne and panda
I understand the difference between "dreamed" and
"dreamt". Thanks.

Hi,Tomo

Hi Everyone,

It's lovely day,isn't it?
David, I'm glad to hear that you feel better now.
Talking of sleep-walking, according to the "Wikipedia", males are seem to be more likely to sleepwalk than females. It's interesting, isn't it?
>Tomo
How was the medical checkups? I have medical checkups regularlly.I took a barium x-ray.But now I had gastricpolyp(not malignity悪性),so I have it by
gastrocamera . Having the checkup is good for you.
> At the last comment,I mentioned that I found the word "on the blog", but I meant to say"on the internet", sorry.
It dosen't make sense.

Have a nice weekend

Anne

Hi Everyone,

Yaay!

Have a great weekend and see you soon.

Tomo

Hi David and Everyone,

How is your week-end?
I think I talk in my sleep. I did often when I was a child, but nowadays not often, I guess...I hope...
When I was a child, my recurring dream was that I fell from very high places into deep dark ones. Like Tomo's and むらさき's.

Hi Tomo,

。。(・・;) I take 胃カメラ regularlly like Anne does. So if I have a chance to take a barium x-ray, I will chose

Thanks for your commnet!

Hi Q-chan,

Your daughter is so lovely!

Hi Anne,

"Males are seem to be more likely to sleepwalk than females". ーYes, it's interesting!

Good night!
Maki

Hi David and Everyone,

How are you doing? It's a beautiful day here. Are you enjoying your weekend?
About sleepwalking, my husband said that his sister used to sleepwalk when she was a child and she always tried sleep-going for a walk.
My second son and my daughter often talk in their sleep. Sometimes they laugh happily! And my sister often does it, too. One night, she seemed to eat something in her sleep. Her husband asked her “What are you eating?” Of course she was asleep, but she answered ‘アイス’. When her husband spoke to her in the morning, she couldn't remember anything!

David, you think you talk in your sleep? But how do you know that? Is there someone next to you in your bed?(笑)
Everyone, if you want to know David's deepest secrets, it is a good chance when he is asleep. He might tell you all of them!

That's funny!

Speak to you soon,

Tomo

Hi,Tomo and Maki
Thank you for your reply.
Yes,children are so cute and unique.^^

Hi David and Everyone,

It was a lovely day here. David, did you enjoy rading a bike?

According to Wikipedia, about 5% of adults are reported to talk in their sleep. It is very common in young children, though.
When I stayed overnight at my friend's house, she was surprised that I talked "かわいい" very loudly with a big smile in my sleep. I didn't remember anything at all!

Tomo,

Good night!
Maki

Hi, everyone;
David, the idea ‘the time you think you are awake is actually a dream.’ is very intriguing and also a little bit scary.
You might be having a lo~ng dream and suddenly wake up to find that you’re not you, actually, and what you think is your life is just a dream. You might feel you have to live another life from now on.
And that reminds me of news about a man who woke after 19-year coma in Poland. He was reported to say, “The world is prettier now.” 19 years ago, Poland was still under communist rule. Does he feel as if he woke up from a long dream?

Q chan,

Maki, Tomo,

About talk in sleep, one of my colleague said her husband often talks clearly in his sleep. And every time she responds to him, the conversation continues normally, but in the morning he doesn’t remember anything. So she is asked never to believe him when he speaks in his sleep. Unbelievable!

“I see a couple on the balcony.”

“There is a cat walking.” – “There is a sleeping dog.” There is a walking cat.” There is a walking cat.” “There is a cat walking.”

“They look out over the scene.” –

“And the dog has been replaced by the cat.” –

Hi everyone,
Sleepwalking and sleepeating.....their world are deep and rouse my interest.
Here's my belated self-introduction a little bit.
David, I talked with Brad (your colleague)this Saturday. I've been taking his class at the community college. I mentioned about the teacher at the community college at the former comment. It's Brad. Learning at his class has been a huge one for me. Now I'm so lucky I can learn from both of you. And Nagoyazyosidai is 20 minutes' walk from my house.
I'm looking forward to new topic.

Good night

Anne

Hi David and Everyone,

How are you doing? Did you have a good weekend?
Here is my report about task 8 ‘What's the difference?’

The first take:

『In one picture, there is a bird in the sky, but in the other picture, ... there isn't a bird.
And in one picture, there is a couple on the roof, and they are facing each other. But in the other picture, they are looking at the sky.
And in one picture, there is a dog sleeping, but in the other picture, there is a cat walking.
And, ... in one picture, there is a young man .. with many balloons, and he is handing a .. balloon to a little girl. But in the other picture, he is holding a, he is, he is holding only four balloons and he is handing a balloon to a little boy.
And in one picture, there is a man .. sitting at the cafe, and he is wearing glasses, but in the other picture, he's not wearing glasses. That's it. 』

The latest take:

『In one picture, there is a bird in the sky, but in the other picture, there's no bird.
There is a couple on the balcony. In one picture, they are looking at each other, but in the other picture, they are looking at the sky.
There is a crown. In one picture, he has lots of balloons, and he is handing one to a girl. But in the other picture, he only has four balloons, and he is handing one to a boy.
In one picture, the sign says “Flowers,” but in the other picture, the sign says “florist.”
There is a man working on his laptop in the cafe. In one picture, he has glasses and a briefcase, but in the other picture, he is not wearing glasses and has no briefcase.
And in one picture, there is a dog sleeping on the ground, but in the other picture, there is a cat walking. That's it.』

最初のテイクで私が‘there is a cat walking’と言ったはこれを知っていたからではなく、task6 で覚えたように‘there is a cat (which is) walking’かな・・と思ったからです。

See you soon,

Tomo

PS Lily, “And the dog has been replaced by the cat.”

Hi David and everyone,

How are you doing? Did you enjoy the weekend?
I've finished Task 6.
What I've learned in this task are as follows:
At my first take, I used the expression"there is(are)many times. What can you see..? の質問に対して I can see..
My first take: There is a man with balloons. He is giving one to a little girl.
My last take: I can see a man handing a balloon to a little girl.
I copied native's expression. The word itself is easy and simple, but I couldn't use that word.
My first take: There is an old woman. She is walking with her dog.
My last take: There is an older woman walking her dog.
