Hello everyone!

This is my first joining with you.At first,I would like to introduce myself.
I worked for Radio SAN-Q that is a community radio station in Seto that is just outside of Nagoya. I am a program directer.I produce some programs.You know,David's program is one of most important programs for us.This program is once a month,David appears live on the radio second Tuesday night at 19:02~19:40.
Basic theme is diferrence between English and Japanese.Each time we chose one theme.
There is a question time at the last of this program.

I wish you all to listen these programs.And I'd like to have questions to David about English.

I need your advices, requests for our program and I 'd like to know what you want to know about learning English and what kind of talking theme you want to listen.

What color is your BMW bike? Is it silver and dark green?(or dark blue?) BMWって車のBMWと同じなんですね～。　バイクにもBMWがあるとは・・、同じマークがあってビックリしました。(無知ですみません。。)
You rode about 450km in one day? How long did you ride on your bike on Saturday? Didn't you get a backache?(｢身体は痛くならないのですか？｣ って書きたかったんだけど・・。　英語で｢どこが痛い｣っていうのは意外と難しいですね。　‘身体’じゃなくて場所を指定しないとダメなのかな・・？） The beautiful mountain roads remind me of the town where I lived before I moved here.

Thanks Murasaki! I'm guessing that a lot of Japanese people think release is 開放 instead of 解放, but I checked the dictionary, and you are right. Well-spotted!

Nice to meet you!
I have finished listening the David's programs, and they were so interesting, especially the topic about listening.
I'm not good at listening.
David said there are 3 reasons you are not good at doing it.
1)You have a small vocabulary.
2)You don't know pronunciation.
3)You don't know grammar.
All these reasons fit me...

About questions I have, I don't know the difference between "at" and "in".
For example, "I stayed in the hotel" and "I stayed at the hotel".
What is the difference?

Someday, I want to drive a foreign-made car, but my sister always says "Your driving is rough!", so I think I shouldn't drive a expensive car.
擦ろうがぶつけようが全く気にならないんです。
（もちろん物にぶつけた場合です。今のところ人にぶつけたことはありません。）
バンパーはぶつけるためにある…とさえ思うくらいなので(^^;)

I've been thinking about what I want to know about learning English, but I can't think of anything at the moment, sorry. David has already taught us lots of things though the blog. Hmm, I'm not sure what is good for the program, but here are some things David taught us on the blog, and I think they are helpful for Japanese learners of English.

・言い換えるコツ（英語で言いたいことが言えない時）
・辞書の使い方
・単語との合コン
・単語のシルエット(音節の話はもうやっていましたね。)
・Sorryの使い方 と ｢すみません｣、｢ごめんなさい｣の違い
・Are you sure? と Really?
・can と can't の聞き分けかた
・従属節の時制(合わせる時と合わせない時）
・例文の作り方（real time, real place, real people）
・head first と head last
・英語にするのは難しい表現（うらやましい、仕方ない、お疲れさまなど）

When I write something in English, I always get a lot of questions for David like ‘How do you say this in English?’or ‘Is this natural English?’, but I'm not sure if it is a good question for the program. For me, the best thing I learned from David is ‘漠然を我慢すること’・・かな？　最近は疑問に思うことに出会っても｢まぁ、いいか、そのうち・・｣ばかりでちょっとまずいかもしれないですね（笑）
I'll try to think about what kind of theme I want to listen to.

Can I comment on your question about the difference between 'in' and 'at'?(というよりも前置詞についてかな)
前置詞は日本語の助詞に似ていて、これじゃなきゃおかしいってときもあるけど、どちらでもいいケースもいっぱいありますよね。　微妙なニュアンスの違いを感じるのはすごく難しいので（私も難しいです！）、私からのアドバイスは｢あまり悩まないこと｣、それと｢イメージで捉えること｣かな。　日本語訳じゃなくてイメージで捉えると少し楽になると思います。
例えば、’in’は何かの｢中にいる｣感じ、囲まれているイメージです。　目に見えてそういう状態の時はもちろん、目に見えなくても気持ち的に何かの中にいる時、ある状況の中にいる時にも使えますよね。　例えば・・
・I'm in a good mood today.(今日は気分がいい・機嫌がいい）
・I'm in a bad mood today.(今日は気分が悪い・機嫌が悪い）
・I'm in a hurry.(急いでいる）　とか。

‘at’のイメージは｢点｣、ある一点を指すイメージです。
・Let's meet at the station.(駅で待ち合わせしよう）《「駅」という一点》
・At that time, I never thought we were going to get married!
（あの時は、私達が結婚するなんて思ってもいなかったわ！）《「あの時」という一点》
・I'll pick you up at 7.(7時に迎えに行くよ）《「7時」という一点》
・I'm good at singing.《「歌｣という一点》

このイメージから考えると、Amicaが書いた例文"I stayed in the hotel." と "I stayed at the hotel."の違いは、話してる人がホテルの中を思い描いているか、ホテルという場所（一点）を思い描いて話しているかの違いかな～・・というのが私の感じてることです。(でも自信はないです。)　でも何となく私的には‘stay at’の方がなじみがあってしっくりくるんだけど・・。
今度の番組で、ということだったので、ポストするかしないかすごく悩んだんだけど・・。　ごめんね、でしゃばっちゃった。

I think I'm a safety driver, but my sister will say "that's not true!"(笑）
I have caused a traffic accident only once.
I was waiting for the traffic light to change.
When the light turned green, I crashed my car into a parked car ahead of me.
It was all my fault because I started suddenly.
When a man who was driving the car got out of it, I had feeling of faintness because he was a Buddhist priest!
He was very tender, and he said "I'm OK. Are you OK, too?", but he got a dent on my car, so I apologized profusely to him.
We called the police, the policeman asked me "When you started your car, the traffic light was green?"
I thought the light was green when I started, but I was not sure, so I said "I didn't remember...".
Then he said to the policeman "The light was green".
He was so gentle!!
Of course I paid the repair of his car.
この事故以来、車間距離を多めにとるようになりました(^^;)

It was unlucky that you had an accident, but it was very lucky that the driver was a good Buddhist priest! I think there are a lot of Buddhist priests, and some are good and others are not. I think the Buddhist priest was a real one. Thanks for sharing your ‘不幸中の幸い’ story!
By the way, I got a question about English form my son today.(He is a first grade junior high school student.) Funnily enough, the question was about the difference between 'in' and 'at'! It was his homework, and he had to translate a sentence ‘私たちの教室で英語を勉強しましょう’ into English. He wrote ‘Let's study English at our classroom’, so he used 'at' instead of 'in'. I asked him why he thought it was 'at', then he said that it was because he learned ‘at home’before and thought ‘～で’was 'at'. I explained the difference between 'home' and 'house' first, and then drew some pictures and explained the difference between 'in' and 'at'. Thanks to your question, I was ready to explain about that.(ありがと～＾＾) I think it was too difficult for him to understand all that, though.
