Tasting sunlight

Hi Team,

Sorry I have been absent for a while, but I have absolutely no time to do anything but work, eat, and sleep these days. I will be this busy for about another week, so if I don't join you, please talk amongst yourselves!

It is great to see so many old faces again, but I am not going to name names in case I forget anyone. Anyway, it's nice to know that you are still out there reading.

I had a strange experience at the weekend that I wanted to tell you about. I was walking in the mountains near my house (I have to get away from work sometimes!) in the morning, and the sun started to come out. It is strange how powerful an effect sunlight has on humans. I was walking through trees, so the sunlight was only coming through in some places. I don't know why, but I stopped in one of the patches of sunlight and stuck my tongue out. I have no idea why I did it, but it really felt like I could taste the sunlight. I think I stood there for about a minute. If anyone had seen me, they would have thought I was crazy. Actually, maybe they would have been right. Perhaps I have been working too hard and finally gone over the edge. Anyway, I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Today's entry is going to be very short because I have to get back to work now. (Sorry Tomo - no time to do recordings at the moment!)

Hope you are all well, and thanks for keeping the blog interesting.

Bye for now,

David

Hi David,

The first of all, there are three entries all are the same. So I choose the latest one.
Tasting sunlight?! Humm, I'm sorry but I haven't had a similar exprience, though I love to get warm sunlight. Please don't work too hard! ;-)

Hi Everyone,

About おでん....
I'm wondering if I'm an only person who doesn't know おでんのじゃがいも?! But....I haven't seen じゃがいも in Seven-Elevenおでん and also in Lawson one. Panda~and m.n., if you read this, HELP me!
Nao,
Amica, I'm glad that you feel better.

Good night!

Maki

I'm so sorry about my commnets. I don't know why...because I didn't push "post" once after Tomo mentioned about posting. Sorry!

Maki

Hi David,
I'm not sure if my experience was same as yours or not, but when I was in my home town(it was more than 30 years ago!), I had such kind of feeling. My hometown is in the countryside(in the mountain), and I could feel changes of seasons by subtle breeze, smell of wind, mists, and so on. When I was a senior high school student, I used to get up early in the morning and study, and sometimes took a walk to a forest near my house. It occurred to me on one of those days. I felt as if I was wrapped with sunlight through trees, and it was strange and happy moment. I didn't stick my tongue out, though! I DID breathe deeply, instead. Even now I can remember that feeling. I think it's a reward to you, David. I hope everything goes well with your work.

Hi everyone,
おでん、hmm..as a Nagoyan, I love Miso-oden!

See you soon,

Anne

Hi Everyone,

I think there is something wrong with the server. When I tried to upload my new entry, it said "error", so I tried again. Never mind, I will try to delete the other two entries.

Hi Team,

David, I'm happy to see your new entry! It seems like you are very tired. Are you OK? Please take care not to go over the edge!(笑) I think you should have some chocolate. It will make your 疲れ better. Don't worry, I'm eating it almost every day, but I have lost 2 kilograms;-)(How's your diet, by the way? You've already got the goal?)
I haven't felt the taste of sunlight, but I love‘
I'm missing your voice, but I can wait until you have enough time;-) 執筆がんばって下さい!

Maki,

Goodnight,

Tomo

Hi Anne,
Sorry, I got your comment about oden wrong. You were talking about miso-oden, not oden, right? I knew that people from Nagoya loved miso taste, then I thought the soup of oden in Nagoya tasted miso.

Kiyoko, welcome to the Oden Club!(笑) このブログには「お菓子クラブ」もあるんですよ^^(ね、Maki?)

Everyone,
I learned a new expression‘go over the edge’which means‘気が狂う・おかしくなる’from David's entry. I had never seen it before. I have heard of some other expressions that have the same meaning like‘go bananas’, ‘go nuts.’ 。
Do any of you know any other phrase?

See you later,

Tomo

Hi Everyone!!

Hi Tomo!!
a new expression you leraned is very interesting!!
Do you know that this word"lemon" has interstiong meaning??
"lemon" sometimes means "欠陥車(おんぼろ車)".
when I lerned this meaning, I was very surprised. English word has many meanigs.

Hi David.

I am sorry that you are so busy with doing your work. I hope you will finish a lot of works and entry this blog soon.:-) Take care of yourself.

Hi Ann!
Miso-Oden!!!! Sounds delicious!!!! I have never eaten it. I wanna try it.
If you come to Shiga, Try It tastes very good. I hope you will like it.

Hi David,
Are you OK?
About tasting sunlight...., I haven't had a similar experience, but as Tomo said, I love "お日様のにおい", too.

Tomo, Maki, Anne,

Tomo,
You have lost 2 kilograms? You are great!
I have lost 1 kilogram, but it is from a cold...
By the way, I didn't know the expression "go over the edge".
At first, I thought that means is "限界を超える".
同じ意味で"go bananas" and " go nuts"?

Maki,

Anne,
I have never heard Miso-oden, but that sounds delicious!
I went to Nagoya 3 years ago, and I ate lots of 名古屋名物.
Actually, I don't like an eel, and I had never eaten ひつまぶし, but my friend who went with me likes it, so we went to eat ひつまぶし.
We didn't know any an eel restaurant, so we asked the taxi driver "Can you take us to the ひつまぶしの美味しい店?".
The taxi driver was kindness, so he took us to the eel restaurant.
When I ate it, I was surprised because it was very delicious! I could eat up it!
This April, I'm going to go to Nagoya on business.
I'm going to be back on the same day, so I will have little free time, but I want to eat ひつまぶし again!
I don't remember the name of restaurant where I went, though.
Do you have an eel restaurant you recommend?

Ayane,
"lemon" sometimes means "欠陥車"?
I didn't know it!
You live in Shiga? I have never heard "糸切り餅".
I want to eat it.

Kiyoko,
I love Spring, too.
Spring is the season I was born.
However, when spring comes, I suffer from an allergy to cedar pollen...

See you soon,

Amica

Hi David and everyone,

Hi David,
It's so interesting story, strange and fantastic and more.
You experienced a kind of supernatural happenings as walking in the mountains in the morning.

I'll show you this one.
I heard long time ago a similar miracle story.
It was a early spring morning, the sun was just awake up, too.
It was rising on the horizon as you know, moving left and right.
One of shining sun's arrows has been reflecting and shading in the deep forest.
The local artist was staring at its beautiful natural phenomenon and was healed internally.
He was also inspired something.
Later he was a great artist by this miracle experience.

David could taste the sun, then maybe you'll be happy man.
By the way, what taste of the sun?
Is that top secret?

You are just on time in a momet phenomenon, so you are very lucky, I guess.

Kiyoko

Amica,

Me too, I was born in spring.
I know spring has come with plus elements and minus one.
Newpaper says, this year will have much more portion of cedar pollen than last year.
Hope you'll take care of allergy early.

Bye for now,
Kiyoo

Hi Tomo,
Thanks! I love ‘お日様のにおい’,too! It makes me so comfortable.

Kiyoko, as Tomo said that 「お菓子’な’クラブ」もありま~す。

Anne & Tomo,

Amica and Kiyoko,
Me too, I was born in Springl. But spring doesn't come here in Hokkaido until April and we have cherryblossoms at the middle of May.

Take care, Amica. I hear that taking a treatment early is very useful for cedar pollen.

Good night,

Maki

Hi Everyone,

Ayane,‘lemon’has a meaning of‘欠陥車(おんぼろ車’!? I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing!
BTW, what does 糸切り餅 look like?

David, are you still working in your office?

Goodnight,

Tomo

I learned that you can put Tomato in おでん on a TV show. So I tried it. Tomato turned sweater and tasty. Here is just one point. Don’t boil it too much. It is enough just warming it.
Amica, a whole onion in おでん is a new idea for me!! An onion is a favorite vegetable of my husband. Thank you showing the new recipe.

Sorry I didn’t write about the topic in this entry. See you later.

Nao

Hi everyone,
Lots of people around me are somehow 風邪引き, and I had been sick for the past week though it is getting a lot better. Anyway, I hope everyone here is doing well.

Yes, having oden in winter is one of the greatest activities(?!) in Japan, I guess. I love oden too.

Hi, David. I totally understand how wonderful it is to feel the sun, but I do hope you won't actually "go over edge" because of overwork! Please take care!

Well, actually, I've got to run, and I just wanted to say hi to everyone!

Laters♪

I'm sorry!!

訂正:whilte pink→white pink

So sorry to bother you all this often.

How clumsy I am!! I am really really ashamed of myself.....this maybe happend to me probably because

My on-line name was "white green", but because the sun was so beautifully shining, the color "pink" came up to my mind. And I typed my handle name "WHITE PINK" instead of "WHITE GREEN." I am very sorry about this confusion.

I will keep my on-line name "WHITE GREEN, " because I love these colors.

I've just found another mistake in English, "go over edge." It should have been "go over THE edge."

Anyway, thank you very much for your patience!

Hi White green,
How is your cold? Hope you get better soon. Take care!

Hi Nao,
Glad to hear from you again! You can talk about anything on this blog, so let's have a chat;-)

Tomo

Hi David & everyone!

Long time no see. I'm still watching you guys;-)I've been quite busy, but I checked this blog as often as I could.I'm glad that you guys are doing well, and there are a lot of new members that I don't know!! About me, I'm doing really really well so far, and in terms of my English, I'm pretty sure it's getting much better than before.I've gotten to the point where I could manage to speak with a couple of the young American simultaneously. This is a huge progress for me, cause young people, especially New Yorkers, speak SOOOOOOO fast that you wouldn't believe. Anyway, I just want to say HI to David and everyone today, and I want you guys to know I'm still alive;-)

Take care!
Maybe some other time, then!

Hi everyone,
About Miso-oden;
Tomo, you don't need to say"Sorry", You are right.
Actually, there are two types of Miso-oden(in my understanding); one is miso soup type oden and the other is "ふろふき大根" type. But the taste of soup is thicker and sweeter than that of usual miso soup. I love normal type of oden, too.

Amica, try"ひつまぶし"on April again! As for restaurants,"いば昇" and "あつた蓬莱軒" would be good . You can get the information about the place and content on the Internet, and another restaurant"東京竹葉亭"at JR takashimaya in Nagoya station would be convenient before riding the Shinkansen.

White green,
When I read your first posting, I thought another white...member joined! Ha,ha,ha.
Anyway, good to have you here!

Hi Pink NY,
Long time no see. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well.

Bye for now,

Anne

Hi White pink and White green,

You'v caught a nusty cold? Take care early, anyway. Hope you get better soon.

I don't forget the memory of my nusty cold that lasted three weeks.
It was last high summer I was busy and sleepless every night.

My busy day continued, and I never never take care my body.
Apart from busy time, I felt some symptoms of cold.
Then I took a cold medicine, and care my body firstly.

However, It was too late the time to notice.
I was too confident in my health, but my body wasn't so tough.
After that I had to hospitalize in my room for long time.

Don't neglect even though a slight cold.
Kiyoko

Hi Anne,
Thanks for letting me know!
If I don't have a free time, I will buy "ひつまぶし" at "東京竹葉亭".

Hi Tomo and Maki,
Can I join "お菓子なクラブ"? I love sweets!
I used to make sweets because my grandfather who died 9 years ago liked sweets I made.
Well, it's getting near Valentine's Day.
Do you know "友チョコ"?
My students (girls) make lots of chocolate sweets for Valentine's day.
They give it to their friends.
I receive it from them.
"おはぎ"かと思うほどの巨大な"トリュフ"や、生焼けのクッキーなど^^;

Hi White green,
How is your cold? I had a cold last week, too.
I hope you feel better.

Hi Pink NY
Long time no see! How have you been?
I'm glad to read your comment!

Hi Kiyoko,
You are right. We must not neglect a cold even if it is a slight cold.
Sometimes I have too much confidence in my health, though.
I think the most important thing is good health!

See you soon,

Amica

追記

Hi Nao,

Amica

Hi Everyone,

and Hi Pink NY! It's good to know you are still with us. We have missed you. Well, it's Friday night, and guess where I am? That's right - I am in my office working. But I've made a lot of progress today, so I'm feeling quite happy.

Someone mentioned something to me last night that I wanted to ask you about. When you were in junior high school (that may be a long time ago for some of our regulars, but please try and remember!) how did you learn the difference between 'a' and 'an'? I heard an interesting explanation of it last night that I have never heard before, and I want to know if it is common knowledge among Japanese people or not.

I have to go to the other campus for exam duties tomorrow, but I will have lots of time to work on Sunday. Mind you, if the weather is nice, I think I might just forget work and go out on my bike. Whatever you are all doing, I hope you enjoy the weekend.

Speak to you next week.

Hi David,

"a"と "an"の違いですよね。
"a"は子音(a consonant)の前、"an"は母音(a vowel)の前で用いる、と習いました。
"an apple"とか。

Amica

Hi David,
About your question, I learned it like this;
「母音で始まる単語の前の‘a’は‘an’になる」That's it. 特に時間をかけるわくでもなく、あっさり終わりです(笑) What is the interesting explanation you heard? 。
BTW, my husband took a day off today, and we went to bike shops to have a look at some bikes he might get. He seems to want HONDA VFR or YAMAHA FZ6. When he asked me‘Which bike do you like?’the other day, I looked at some bike pictures and chose one just from the way it looked. It was HONDA CBR, but the shop assistant said that it was not for a long ride, it was good for riding at a circuit. I saw a lot of bikes today, 。)

Hi Pink NY!
Great to hear from you again! How's your‘hubby’?:)

Hi Anne,
Thanks for your explanation;-)

Hi Amica,
Yes, Valentain's day is coming soon, and I have heard of 友チョコ;-) Last year, my niece told me this;

BTW, you used to make sweets for your grandfather? You are so sweet!

Hi Everyone,
I've been waiting for a call from the repair shop, but it hasn't come yet‥ もう「10日前後」の‘後’になったんだけどなぁ。。 Life without a computer, ‥I can't take it anymore!

Have a great weekend,

Tomo

PS David, I hope YOU enjoy the weekend!

Hi David,
About "a" and "an",
My understanding about them is the same as Tomo.
I'm curious about the interesting explanation. What is it?
Hope the weather will be nice for riding the bike on Sunday.

Hi! Pink NY!
Long time no see! I'm so glad to hear you are doing very well. Please join us whenever you get a time.

Hi White green,
Hope you feel better soon. It's been cold, so take care! pink

Hi Anne,
Thanks for explaining about Miso-oden. I want to try miso soup type. It sounds good!

Hi Amica,
Welcome to 「お菓子なクラブ」! You are so sweet that you made sweets for your grandfather. 私は食べるの専門!;-) I didn't know "友チョコ"!

Hi Tomo,
I'm sorry to hear that your PC hasn't come back to you yet...You've been working very hard for your commnets every day. Are your fingers OK?!
I didn't know "マブチョコ"! 12345は、重要な順?!
Your husband has got the licence?! Wow! It sounds enjoyable to choose which bike he will get.
Do you try to get a licence, Tomo?

Hi Everyone,
Have a lovely weekend!

By fo now,

Maki

Hi Maki,

No, no, he hasn't got a licence yet. He is trying it now.
I'm not sure if I can get a motorcycle licence because I can't drive a manual car.(I have that licence, though.) It's difficult for me to judge when and which gear I should use in a momemt.(きっと瞬時の判断力がないんですね(笑)) でもちょっと真剣に考えてます。 Maybe the time is right because my daughter will be going to kindergarten school this coming April, so I will have more free time. The problem is that if I have such an expensive hobby(that means there will be 2 bikers in my family), one of my dreams‘going abroad’will be far away.(I have never left Japan.) Hmm, I'll think about it well and decide until Spring comes. I always think and worry too much when I challenge new things, so maybe it's good for me to stop thinking and just do it once in a while;-)

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Tomo

PS My fingers are fine, thanks!

Hi Tomo and Maki,
I didn't know "マブチョコ".
I like the chocolate of "BABI".
Do you know "BABI"?
Last year, I got it as a お歳暮 from my student's mother.
It is Italian brand's sweets and delicious!
When I knew the chocolate's price later, I was surprised because it was very expensive!
"GODIVA"と同じくらい高いです。
また食べたいけど、絶対自分では買えない^^;

By the way, Yes, I used to make sweets for my grandfather.
He was a cook, and after he retired he used to make a meal for his family.(including me)
The meal he made was delicious.
When I was a child, he often made "焼きりんご" for me and my sister.
In those days we didn't have an oven, so he made it by a frying pan.
The hot "焼きりんご" with butter and cinnamon was so sweet, we loved it, and of course we loved him.

Tomo,
One of your dreams is "going abroad"?
That's nice!
I hope your dream come true in the near future.

Have a nice weekend!

Amica

Hi Team!
Guess what I'm writing this comment by ..... my computer! Yaay! My laptop has come back. I realized that how easy it is to make a comment with my both hands! Now I can write as long as I want;-) Thanks for your messages of support. That made me want to keep joining the blog even by a cell phone.

Hi Amica,
I had never heard of the name of the chocolate "BABI". I'd like to try it, but is it very expensive? I wish someone would send it to me!(笑) でもAmicaのおじいちゃんの焼きりんごの方が食べてみたいな。 やさしい味がしそう^^ Did he teach you how to make it?

Yes, going abroad is one of my dreams. I have a lot of dreams;-)

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

See you soon,

Tomo

PS Amica, the chocolate for your grandfather, it's definitely ‘Love

PPS It's snowing here again!

Hi Tomo, Wow! Finally your PC has come back! I`m out of my town, so I`ll write my comment again on Sunday. Talk to you later! Have a good holiday! Maki P.S. I`m writing this by my cell phone. Tomo, I`m respect you! It`s hard work...

Hi everyone,

It is midnight.
The second half of this week I was very busy for something to do.

First one was dance party.
After lesson, I attended my instructor's meeting that was held at the hotel.
Member of male was 12, and female was 20.
I enjoyed eating, drinking, chatting singing and dancing during two hours from evning time.
I didn't have for a long time such as the place. So I was tired mind and body.

Next day in tne morning I went to PC class for learning.
As soon as came back I did a review of the lesson and also I made a applied works of using word soft. It let me tired.

On Saturday, I had the English club from 11 o'clock to 4 o'clock.
Especially one of today's schedule "chatting circle" was very hard.
Because I was first experience to manage it.
My job is offering to member some topics with written in English memo slip, and device for speaking time for everyone fairly.
To think about like this style is useful for studying English, but I was really really tired.

Now, I was released from my responsibility.

See you soon,
Kiyoko

Hi everyone,

I got up at 7 without alarm clock even though I had sleepless.
This morning at 8, I met a mail friend and her dog.
As you know, I couldn't meet her on last snowy Sunday by happening.

As same last time, I had hot tea, snack dog food and dog balls.

I've been worring about today's weather, because weather news repoting today will be snow.
When I pull the drape there were a little snow. I was relaxed to see it.

Finally I met her and talked about her dog and exchanged each information as having tea on the wood bench.
Ground of park was covered with thin snow.

I gave some dog foods her dog.
She threw the ball for her dog running.
She gave me rice that her mother sent her.

I had a very happy time.

Hi Tomo,
I wonder how you wrote your commnets by your cell-phone....all yours were very tidy, but mine is mess! I mean that I tried to write it like one by PC.
Looong time ago, when I got a driver's licence, I thought that I coudln't drive a manual car because of the same reason as you, but "慣れ"! That's it!

Hi Amica,
I don't know "BABI", either. It's the first time to hear the name and I'm curious about the chocolates! 。。As Tomo said, I wish somebody would give it to me!

By for now,

Maki
