Hi Tension
Hi Everyone,
I'm glad you liked the videos. Isn't that 7-year-old amazing! You Tube is a lot of fun, but it is a bit dangerous for me because I keep watching it when I am supposed to be working.
Hi Anne - it's interesting that you asked about 'high-tension' because I was just talking to a student about that yesterday. She said that her American friends use 'hyper', but I'm not sure that it is a good idea to think of this as having exactly the same meaning as ハイテンション.
As far as I understand it, ハイテンション refers to how a person is feeling. In English, if you say someone is 'hyper', I think you are talking about their personality generally. I suppose it could be okay if you said 'I am feeling a bit hyper today', but this is really informal, and I think it would be a bit strange if a Japanese person said that unless their English was very good. By the way, as Anne said, if you want to know the meaning of 'hyper', I think Robin Williams is a very good example! If you watch him in that interview, he never stops moving and talking.
I think ハイテンション is another one of those words which is really common in Japanese, but for which there are many different translations in English. In most situations, I think you would probably just say 'excited' or 'feeling good'.
Anyway, I have to go and teach now. I don't have any special plans for the weekend, but I will be watching American Idol on Saturday night, so I will tell you about that on Monday.
Have a great weekend,
David

Hi Anne,
You are welcome. Your question was difficult, but it was interesting. Thank you, too!
Hi David
It seemed like you did the new entry while I was writing.
I watched the interview with Robin Williams, and I understood the meaning of 'hyper'. As you said, he never stops moving and talking in the interview! I knew that he was a great actor, but I didn't know that he was such a funny man.
Have a great weekend and see you soon.

Hi David and Eveyone,
I've just read your all commnets quickly and I'm really interested in the programmes in YouTube, but I should manage not to see them because once I've started to see them, I will spend a lot of time for it....
Tomo,
Robin Williams started his career as a comedian, so he is so funny, I guess.
By for now,
Maki

Hi Maki,
Really?! Robin Williams started his career as a comedian?? I didn't know that!
I'm very surprised to hear that, but no wonder he is so funny.
Thanks for the information!
Hi David,
Are you watching American Idol and excited?
Hope you are enjoying your weekend,
Tomo

Hi Maki,
I'm glad to see your comment here.
As you said, watching (listening to) You Tube is fun, but I have to be careful not to be addictive to it!
Hi Tomo,
Some of Robbin Williams' movies have a taste of comedy, and one of them is " Good Morning, Vietnam", and in the movie, you can see his 'hyper' character.( I like this movie, and it's fun, but there a lot of aspects;sad, humorous, serious...)
To Moms and to your Moms,
She's nice, my mom.

She can sing like an angel, and roar like a lion.
She's really,REALLY nice, my mom.

She's a SUPERMOM!
And she makes me laugh. A lot.
I love my mom.
And you know what?
SHE LOVES ME!
(And she always will.)

Hi David and Everyone,
How is your weekend? We have a nice weather in my area, though they had a little snow in some areas in Hokkaido!
Hi Anne,
Thank you so much for sharing a lovely poem!
I like it very much. As for YouTube, I really want to watch it and I'm sure I will be YouTube addict! So not now for me...you know. I like "Good Morning, Vietnam", too.
By for now,
Maki

Hi Anne,
Thanks for the information. I have watched some Robbin Williams movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, Jack, and Good Will Hunting, but I haven't seen 'Good Morning, Vietnam'. He is one of my favorite actors, and Anne and Maki like that movie, I think I should see it!
Tomo
PS 'My Mom' is so lovely! Thanks for sharing;-)

Hi David ,
Thank you for your advice.
Hi Tomo, thank you for thinking together.
As you said, ハイテンション is often said in Japanese, and we often hear the word ハイパーas well. Actually, mood, tension, hyper...many words came to mind, and I thought it was not proper to use 'hyper' here, but I had no idea about ' be excited'! It is really true that we can't translate Japanese directly into English, and vice versa.
So I would say about Robin Williams as follows:
During the interview, he is always talking, talking...and is excited. It's fun to listen to it, but to be honest,I sometimes feel tired with his endless talks.( It's my 'アフター'version.)
Bye for now,
Anne
