Anyway, I can't believe that she( a Japanese person) didn't know the fact(image) that Bush is not so smart that a lot of people in the world make a mock of him. There are a lot of articles or videos related to him or his presidency, right?

ちょっと助けて欲しいんです。　知っての通り、私は政治･経済・世界情勢に明るくない（はっきり言って真っ暗です(笑))。　なので、知ってること、見つけたことを教えて欲しいんです。(もちろん日本語で)　昨日ちょっと‘stupid Bush’で調べてみたんですけど、動画ばっかり出てきてよく分からない･･。　あとは「大統領のおバカ発言ベスト10」みたいなのも見てみたんですが、分かったのはたくさんの人がBushさんをバカだと思ってることくらいで・・。
なので、助けてくださ～い。　できれば中学生レベルで分かるように噛みくだいて教えてもらえると嬉しいです。。＾＾;）　「この記事読んでみて」っていう記事があったら、それも教えて欲しいんですけど、ここにリンクを貼るとはじかれる可能性が大なので、その場合は私のブログのコメント欄にリンクを貼って教えて下さい。

私の最大の疑問は、どうしてこんなにダメだしされる人が大統領になれたんだろう･･？ですが。　そこがまた政治の難しい世界なんでしょうかね～。。

今回の宿題少々大変ですよね。私もイザ、具体的にとなると、つまってしまいます。ブッシュ大統領で検索して、wikipediaの日本語版を読むと、なぜstupid Bushと言われるのか、の前提条件がつかめて、videoや、記事が理解しやすいと思います。日本語版でね＾＾）特に、７．人物ー知性、人物像のあたりかな。９／１１の判断の誤りなど、大きな問題があると思います。今から出かけるので取り急ぎ、これだけ。夜には戻りますから、また、私なりに考えてみたいと思います。

I've heard a lot about "stupid Bush" or something, but I've tried to be careful not to take all of them on trust. In fact, I don't know him. Of course, I've heard of his rumors, and I've seen his reckless performances on TV; however, does this mean I can understand him? I don't think so...
Having said that, to tell the truth, I don't like him. XD
I don't like people who tend to attack someone without thinking what will happen next. While fighting, they are inclined to make an excuse, saying "We don't have a choice. We need to take an action before they starts coming up agianst us."
Many children will be dead with that kind of stupid decision and HE is unwilling to take any responsible for that...

この間、ある日本人女性と話したんだけど、ほとんどの欧米諸国で、ジョージ･ブッシュ現大統領がそれほど利口な人物だと思われてないってことを知らなかったって言ってたんだ。　そんなことは世界中の人が知ってると思ってたからビックリしたよ。　でももしかしたら、日本ではそれほど広まってないのかもしれないね。

この前、友達がオバマ次期大統領についてのすごく面白い記事を送ってきたんだ。　それはジョークなんだけど、皮肉に基づいている記事なんだよね。　だから日本人がその皮肉を理解できるのかなぁ、とちょっと不思議に思ったんだ。
月曜日にその記事を紹介しようと思ってるんだけど、その前にみんなにして欲しいことがあるんだよね。　欧米で、ブッシュ大統領がどんな風に思われているか、少し勉強しておいて欲しいんだ。　もし興味があったら、Googleで ‘stupid Bush’ で検索してみて。　たくさん出てくると思うから、いくつか読んでみてね。

明日はとなりさん《Davidのバイク仲間です》がレースに出るんだ。　ピットを手伝うことになってるから、今夜から鈴鹿に行って来ます。　鈴鹿は夏以来だし、今年は一度も乗ってないなぁ･･。《Davidは前はよく鈴鹿サーキットに走りに行ってました》　久しぶりのサーキットだから楽しみだよ。

こんにちは！

When I talked with a friend from a western country, he told me how Bush was stupid and crazy. For example, Bush couldn’t name any of the names of five leaders in the world when he was asked, or he called Pakistani with the discriminatory word and said, “they are our friends.” in public, which made the atmosphere chilly. My friend isn’t American but he seemed to be familiar with politics in America. On the other hand, my friend didn’t know much about North Korea even the abduction issue. I was surprised a bit by this because he lived in Japan for over three years at that point. This time David’s entry reminds me of the conversation with the friend. Something in common in Japan isn’t in common in the West and vice versa, so what David said makes sense a lot to me.

I look forward to reading the very funny article next week and I hope it’s funny to me!

Hi team,

I just got back from Suzuka, and I want to tell you the story of what happened to me last night.

Do you remember when we were talking about dangerous driving? Well, last night, I saw a truck driver do something incredibly stupid, and it was a miracle that nobody was killed. In fact, if I had left home 10 seconds earlier than I did, I don't think I would be writing this now.

I drove down to Suzuka late last night because we had a really early start this morning. As I was driving down, I got a call from a friend at about 11.30. I never use my phone when I am driving, so I decided to pull into a parking area to call my friend back. The slip road into the parking area was up a fairly steep hill, and as I indicated to turn into it, I could see a truck coming backwards down the hill at very high speed. It felt like I was dreaming as I watched the truck come backwards onto the expressway, cross both the lanes, and then smash into the central crash barrier.

I pulled into the parking area and looked back at the truck, and I could see that it wasn't moving. I presumed that the driver must have had a heart attack or lost consciousness or something, so I got out of my car and looked for someone to help me. Just in front of my car, there was a man who looked like a truck driver, so I told him what had happened and asked him to help me. He looked a bit confused, and then he said
オレのトラックじゃない？
I asked him what he was talking about.
He said, 「ここにトラックを置いたけど、もうない」

He ran down the road to check, and it was indeed his truck. He had pulled into the parking area, and instead of parking in the car park, he had just left his truck with the engine running at the top of the hill. The hand brake had slipped, and the truck had travelled about 400 meters backwards down the hill and onto the expressway before crashing into the barrier. And remember that this was in the dark!
Anyway, he ran down to get his truck, and then drove back into the parking area. He got out, and then he said to me, 「ごめん、サイドブレーキがちょっと甘かったみたい」
I couldn't believe anyone could be that stupid!
I said, 「ギアに入れなかったの？」, and he replied 「だって、ちょっとトイレに行って来ただけだから…」
I honestly didn't know what to say, but I told him that he was incredibly lucky that no one had been killed. If I had already turned into the parking area road before his truck started to move, there would have been nothing I could have done to avoid it because the road was too narrow for two cars. Even if I had stopped completely, his truck would have just smashed into the front of my car.

Anyway, in the end, nobody was hurt, and I made it to Suzuka and back safely. Tonari san and my other friend Fukuda san both raced, and both finished without any accidents, so it was a good day.

David! I'm sooooo glad you didn't get involved in that accident! What a stupid driver! The story of your little adventure made my heart beating fast the other day, but this story made it beating even faster!
もし10秒早く家を出ていたら･･・。　怖い！　本当に良かったです。。

I felt like I was hearing an unreal story. While I was reading your comment more, my heart started beating faster. It sounds that the driver didn't feel any guilty about the accident. (Maybe he didn't think it was an accident!) Unbelievably a stupid driver, he is!

(I wish I could understand all of them!)で、Annの言うように私もwikipediaを読んでから、日本語で『大統領の失言』で検索して読んだりしました。パックンマックンが、ブッシュの失言を使って、ギャグにしたりしてたのも見つけたよ。

YouTubeや他のサイトにも"stupid Bush"に関することはたくさん書かれていて、理解しきれないね。
大まかなところでは、
　・世界情勢に疎く、理解できない
　　　　（自分の政策はない・・・でもこれってどこもありがち？？）
　・失言が多い（どこかの国も一緒？！）
　・語彙不足（読書がとっても好きらしいけれど・・・）
　・知性に欠ける・・・成績はギリギリ？
　　　　（でもイエール大卒で、ハーバード大でMBA取得してる）
　・酔っ払って公の場に出た？
　　　　（ろれつの回らないインタビューがいくつがある）
このようなことが原因になって、"stupid"とか"idiot"とされているよう。確か選挙結果が出たときも不正があったのでは？という見方もあった。以前何かで、「ただいるだけの人形」とまで読んだことが・・・まだまだたくさんあるとは思うけれど、ちょっとだけまとめてみました。

It was a dangerous story wasn't it? Anyway you got back safely, and nobody didn't get hurt was unbelievable! And you asked the stupid driver by chance whose truck had accident!!

My husband had same things happened when he got a new type of the car. There was an automatic side brake system with the car. (サイドブレーキを引くのではなく、ボタンを押すタイプ）he tried pushing on and off several times at the garage, so he couldn't know which was worked. he was in a car a few minutes, he thought that it seemed to keep on brake then. and he left from his car. A few minutes later, a neighbour came my house and showed us how happened his car.
His car stopped in the middle of the road. Our parking space become a bit up a hill. Usually a lot of cars parked out. Fortunately any cars didn't parked then.

As you said 'Stupid Bush', I didn't know what he made a slip of the tongue. I have heard about Prime Minister Asou who made a slip of the tongue every time. His comments was disappointed me when I heard at the news.

オバマ大統領もすでにたたかれ始めているのですね。麻生総理もそうですが、国のトップはなにげにしゃべっていてはいけないという事をもっと自負すべきですよね。

私にも政治の事は難しすぎて英語では言い表せません。でも、日本では任期が長ければそれだけ指示されていたってことで、小泉総理のときはそれなりに活気があったような気がします。それ以降は、なんだかままごとのような、いろいろ決めてた事も途中で放棄して、後はどうするんだって思ってしまいます。アメリカでは、長くてもブッシュ大統領のように戦争を起こしてしまったら、なんだか良かったとは思えないし、クリントン政権のときは、もっと市民に優しい政権だった気がするのですが。。これはしがない一市民の意見として聞いて下さい。

Hi Team,

さっきは時間がなくて書けなかったので、今度は私の気持ちをちゃんと書かせてください。

名前のことを言わなかったのは、わざわざ言うべきことじゃない、と思ったのもあるけど、それが理由で本のPR活動をしている、と思われたくなかったからです。　もちろん今一緒に協力してくれているみんなはそんな風に思わないっていうのは分かってたけど、でも中にはそうじゃない人もいるかもしれないな・・と思ったから。
私が本のことをたくさんの人に知ってもらいたいと思ったのは、純粋に、英語学習者を助けてくれる素晴らしい本だと思ったからです。　Davidも言ってましたが、この本にはDavidが今まで書いたことが全部つまってます。　でも、つまっているのはそれだけじゃないと思った。　Davidが十数年、いろんな学校で数え切れないくらいたくさんの人を教えてきたこと、自分も私たちと同じ語学学習者として日本語を苦労して学んだこと、そういう今までのいろんな経験が全部つまってると思ったんです。　だからこの本はDavidじゃないと書けない本だと思った。　そしてもちろん、これから長く、私を含めてたくさんの英語学習者を助けてくれる本だと思っています。　だから本を広めることを思いついて、みんなに協力してくれるようにお願いしました。
私たちの新しい活動はまだ始まったばかりです。　私はもっともっとたくさんの人に知ってもらいたい。　なので、もうしばらく力を貸して下さい！

Hi,
My PC is now in bad condition.　というわけで、メールもwebも使えません！今からPCと格闘です。I'm writing my comment from my husband's PC.

ブッシュ大統領については、みなさんが言われるように、あまりにも様々な話が多すぎて。。。
私が印象的に感じたのは、２回目の大統領選で、ブッシュ氏の、失言に対して、アルゴア氏が、軽蔑的な表情を浮かべ、それが、ゴア氏のマイナスに傾いたという一件です。
今回でもYOU Tubeなど使った戦略は、国民がどのように動くかということを研究し尽くしていると思いました。Rikoが言うように、クリントン政権の方がもう少し国民に優しかったように思います。

Hi Tomo,
やっぱり私は余計なこと書いちゃったんですね。ごめんなさい。Davidの新しい本、何人かのblogのメンバーが、出来上がる前の状態の本の中身を見てDavidに感想を言う、というお手伝いをしたことがあったので、そのメンバーの名前が載ったのだと勘違いしてしまったんです。でもよく考えたら、名前を載せる場合はDavidが本人に承諾を取りますよね…。私が本名を知っているのはTomoだけなので、Tomoの名前を見つけた時、「お手伝いしたみんなの名前が載ってるんだ！」って早合点してしまいました。もしかしたらTomoは知られたくなかったんじゃないですか？本当に申し訳ないです…。これからはもっと慎重にコメントを入れるようにします(・・;)

Amica～、それは誤解です。　知られたくなかったなんてことは絶対にないよ。　だってすっごく光栄なことでしょ？　ようやくみんなに言えたので、本当に良かったな～って思ってます。　ほんとにほんとだよ！　知られたくないと思ってたら、本名は教えません(＾_-)-☆
