Wow, Max and Matilda have grown up a lot! When we saw them(the pictures you showed us before), Max was just a little baby, and Matilda was a newborn baby. Where does the time go? I want to touch Matilda's cheeks.( I love baby's cheeks.) How adorable!

Your nephew and niece are so cute, of course, but I loved the last picture which is not on the blog but on your flickr page. The color of the sky is sooooo beautiful! I wish I could actually see it.

Thanks for sharing the nice photos. I was a bit tired today, but they made me feel better and want to make a comment in English:)

Thanks for sharing the photos. I remember Max and Matilda because you showed us the photos of them before. How big they have become! They are so cute! It is fun to watch kids grow up, isn't it? The photos of Welsh mountains are very beautiful. I guess the place had clean air and made you refresh.
By the way, I have a question. What is the difference between "Photo" and "Picture". I know both of them mean "写真", but I don't know which one I should use when I want to say "写真".

Hi David,

Thank you for sharing photographs of Max, Matilda and Welsh mountains. Max and Matilda are sooo cute, and their photos reminds me of photos that you showed us last time when you returned to Wales about one year ago. Time does fly fast! A baby first "learn" to smile in her sleep, and what does she learn now? Was it fun to play with Max?
I watched all the photos on flickr page, and I like the last one; it reminds me of visiting Wales last fall, but at that time the weather was terrible^^;)

I think "Blwyddyn Newydd "means "A Happy New Year".
I looked these words in a Welsh English dictionary which I bought there last year, but these were a bit different, so I'm not sure.

I agree with Anne's idea. I looked in my dictionary, and it says:

Picture: a painting/drawing/photograph etc. that shows a scene, a person, or things
(だから、いろんな方法でできた‘画像’全部の意味じゃないかな。。）

Photo(graph): a picture that is made by using a camera that has a film sensitive to light inside it
（感光性フィルムのカメラで撮影したもの(picture)、だけど最近はデジカメもあるから、とにかくカメラで撮ったもの、でいいんじゃないかな。）

というわけで、picture の中に photo(graph) という意味が含まれて、『写真』と言いたい時はどっちでもいいし、同じ意味だと思います。(Sorry, if I'm wrong!)

Time has flown since I got back to England. It seems a long time ago I was in Japan. I have just been a week. Do you think so David? (you are different situation as me)

A lot of newcomers are joining here. I'm glad we will be a big team.
Tomo is planning to the event in Tokyo. I want to meet with team someday.

How was in Wales and your family? Did you have a nice Christmas dinner with them? Did you miss turkey? I already miss Japanese food, but I love living in England. Could you stop driving when it was yellow light in England? I stopped driving when I was in Japan at first. but another lanes driver were gone. I recovered of my sense of Japanese driving little by little since then. (lol)

私もAnneと同じ、picture と photo は、その時の気分で使ってます。　相手が使った言葉に合わせる時もあるし、逆に変える時もある。　同じ意味なのにいろんな言葉で表そうとするのは、English speaker の『同じ言葉や表現の繰り返しをなるべく避けたい』という気持ちからくるんじゃないかな。　意味が微妙に違うとか、こっちの方がちょっとカジュアルな響き、とかいうこともあるけど、今回の場合は同じだと思うよ。　昨日、ネットでも調べてみたんだけど、同じようなことが書いてありました。　それからもう1つ、おもしろいことを見つけたんだけど、アメリカ英語では picture が好まれて、イギリスでは photo だって。　『アメリカ英語では「写真を取る」は'take a picture'ですがイギリス英語ではそうは言いません。 必ず'take a photo'といいます』、なんて書いてあるサイトもあったけど、これは本当かどうかは分からない。　せっかくいろんな国にいるメンバーがいるから、ちょっと聞いてみようか。　私は picture と photo だったら picture の方がよく使われてるような気がするんだけど、国によって違うかもしれないね。

I have been using 'take a picture' so far. Because I picked it up from my text book when I was in junior high. Nobody didn't correct for 'take a photo'.
Both of words include the meaning 写真。 so I think that it would be all right both of them.

Canada has really beautiful nature such as mountains, the sea and beaches. I enjoyed hiking, camping, picnic on the beach, and boat trip in summertime. Sitting and reading a book on the beach was so precious experience.
Their car license plates have a word "Beautiful British Columbia" (British Columbia is a name of province). I think that shows they are proud of their city.

Thank you for your fine pictures. Your nephew Max looks nice guy, and your neace Matilda is so cute. Like these peaceful shots make me so happy, that I like seeing. Actually I sometimes take care my grandson three kids and play with them. However, their playing games are tending to high and difficult day by day, so my turn has been decreasing.
I never been to Wales, so I can not image there, but your picture helps me my imagination. Seeing scenic photographs silently give me a kind of some healings. Anyway, thanks for sharing the nice photos.

Hi Kazu. The movie you mentioned may be Independence Day. There’s a scene they use a nuclear weapon against alien’s ship. Then President asks for a visual confirmation. The operator in the tank says, “The target remains….”

Hi Riko. I think what you wanted to say was, “Nobody has corrected me.” :) I think it’s because “take a picture” is a correct way to say ｢写真を撮る｣. It’s same as the word “fancy.” Americans don’t use the word like British but they would understand what you mean, so they wouldn’t tell you the way how they would say. Make sense? Now you are aware of this, you may notice others using the phrase “take a photo” around you. :)

Actually, while you are studying English, you come across a lot of "? " things, and that's why David's book are really helpful for you(of course,for me!).
Talking of David's book, the day before yesterday, I went to a department store near Nagoya station, and dropped in a big book store. There I found out David's newly published book with other two books, and only one copy was left. I mean a lot of people have bought his book. I noticed that there was a nicely illustrated pop(ポップ宣伝）just beside the book; words and handsome David's face^^)

I didn't mention about "fancy" not because I hate it, but because just I forgot it.
I'm sorry, Appoh.;)
And also I didn't mention about newcomers, it was because just same reason as I mentioned it.
But I'm making it a rule to read every comment and I'm having a fun.

When it comes to writing in English, I tend to concentrate to something and then I forget about something else.

Hi team,

I'm at my sister's house now because my niece is sick and has a fever. As some of you know, my sister is working at my daughter's kindergarten as a teacher, and there is a small event there today, so she couldn't take a day off. I may have to take my niece to hospital if she gets worse, but she is sleeping well at the moment, so I'm writing this comment from my sister's computer.

Sorry if I made you feel bad, but I didn't mean it. I just wanted to say, “If I had known it was from you, it would have been more difficult for me to find the courage to try it.”
You live in America? No wonder. It didn't surprise me. I also thought that you lived in Nagoya now, but I knew you were one of those who had lived abroad or been commutating with native speakers. I learned it from your writings - which is high-level and native-like. Besides, you dropped in my blog the other day and said that you had been studying English for about 20 years. It means that you are a ‘daisenpai’, so it's not easy for me to comment on your English, you know. But, as I said to Kiyoko, one of the best parts of this blog is to help each other, so if there is another chance, I would try.(probably..or maybe.. Just joking!) I know if I try and make mistakes, you would say “Nice try.” I'm learning not only English but also your personality from your writings, and I'll be counting on you;-)

It's cold and dry around this area, either. Actually, I live in Vancouver(west side of North America) which is one of the warmest areas in Canada, so it's not extremely cold. Maki, I appreciate your thoughtfulness. It might be almost the same temperature as Hokkaido:))

Nice to meet you. I'm happy to hear that you've stayed in Vancouver for a month. The city is probably different from what it used to be because buildings and roads are under construction for the Winter Olympic Games next year. It often causes traffic jams and annoys us, but I still like this city.
