The Blog Event

Hi everyone,

It was nice to finally meet some of the blog regulars on Saturday. We had a really nice time, so I want to say a big 'thank you' to Tomo for organizing it. I was a bit worried that some of the people might turn out to be strange, but in the end, there was only one strange person, and that was me, so it was okay. We took lots of pictures, and everyone is going to send them to me so that I can put them up here, but I'm going to Hokkaido tonight, so I won't be able to do that until next week.

I'm actually setting off in a few hours, but I have some work to do before I go. I'm taking the ferry from Tsuruga to Tomakomai, and then I'm going to stay with the Aokis in Obihiro.

I think it is going to feel a bit strange going to Hokkaido because Seto has been really warm recently, and I will be going back into winter. Because I am going in my van, I can take a lot of stuff, so I have packed all my ski gear. I'm not sure if I will have a chance to ski or not, but if I do, I will be well prepared! I'm coming back from Tomakomai on Sunday night, so I will be back in Seto on Monday evening.

You are welcome, and thank you for coming! We were all happy to see you. Organizing the event was really tough for me, but it was great fun!
I had the man at the hotel to take our picture with my camera, and I was going to send it to you, but one of the women's eyes(not mine) were closed. I don't think it's a good idea to put it up on the blog, so I decided not to send it to you. I was so busy chatting with everyone that I couldn't take photos(Actually I have only one.), so I can't send you any pictures, sorry.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you had a nice time at the event, and I hope you have a wonderful time in Hokkaido. Have fun!

It is nice to meet you all. This is my first posting.
I wish I could have joined the blog event.
After I found this blog a few months ago, I have been peeping in the blog as a reader.
I, however, finally decided to join this blog after considering for a while partially because I am afraid I will forget English words and phrases day by day. Another reason is that I was inspired by blog members who enjoy learning English. Thanks to you, I was able to make up my mind to continue studying English.

さて、写真は来週のお楽しみですが、何から話しましょうか。　そうそう！　1つ、皆さんにお詫びをしないといけないことが・・。　アルクの荒川さんから頂いたお土産を、皆さんに配るのを忘れてしまったんです。。（参加できなかった方へ：　なんとアルクからブログ担当の方が挨拶に来てくださったんです！）　とってもおいしそうな（＆高級そうな！）エクレアを頂いたのですが、一人で持って帰ってきてしまいました。　申し訳ないです・・。　生ものなので、皆さんに送るわけにもいかず、私とウチの子ども達のお腹に入ってしまいました。（荒川さん、すみませ～ん！　せっかく頂いたお土産を独り占めしてしまいました。　本当に申し訳ないです。。　でもすっごくおいしかったです。　ごちそうさまでした・・！）

イベントの話に戻りますが。。
ディナーパーティーは午後6時からでしたが、私は5時半頃からホテルのロビーでみんなのことを待ってました。（目印にこのブログのタイトルでもある、『英語と仲直りできる本』を持って）　初めに私に気づいてくれたのはAnneでした。　朝のコメントにも書いた通り、Anneは私のイメージとちょっと違っていましたが、一目見た瞬間に、「Anneだ！」と分かりました。　人柄は、思った通りの優しくて穏やかな雰囲気の方です。　その後、Davidもすぐに来てくれて、Kazuが声を掛けてくれて、Kiyokoが来て、他のみんなを待っている間にAnneが持ってきてくれたオーロラの写真で盛り上がってました。　その後、Appohが来て（本当に背が高かったのですぐに分かりました！）、Lilyが来て、Makiが来て、amoが来て（LilyもMaki もamoも全然イメージと違いました！）、あとはGussanだけ、と思ったら、Gussanは時間がなくて直接会場に向かったということで、会場の入口で会えました。　みんなすぐに席について、飲み物を決めて、ディナーの始まりです。　お料理は、洋食のコースで、何が一番おいしかったかな・・。　私はじゃがいものポタージュスープがすごくおいしかったです。　あとはワイン！　給仕係の方がずっとお部屋に控えていて、なくなるとすぐについでくれるので、気が付かないうちにたくさん飲んでいたような気がします（笑）　いろんな話をしたと思うのですが、どんな話をしたかな・・。　前半はみんなが楽しめるようにいろいろ気にかけていて、後半はワインのおかげでいい気分だったので(笑)、あんまり覚えてないかも。。（誰かお話してくださ～い）　パーティーでは、英語で喋りたい人は英語でということで、Davidも日本語を喋ったり、英語を喋ったり、いろいろごちゃ混ぜでした。　私にとって、Gussanが一番、情報の少ない謎の人物で(笑)、イメージというイメージもできていなかったのですが、パーティーの会場で一番英語で喋っていたのではないでしょうか。（それともDavidのとなりに座ったLilyかな？）　とにかく、食事をしながらいろんな話をして、Anneとamoが持ってきてくれた写真を見て、あっという間に2時間がたってしまって、会場をを出る前にホテルの方にお願いして、みんなで記念写真を撮りました。　そのあとはまだまだ話し足りない、という感じだったので、駅の近くのコージーコーナーで2次会です。　あ、でもAppohは残念ながらタイムリミットで、1次会でお別れでした。　2次会では、Makiからロイズチョコレートや北海道のお菓子をお土産にもらいました。（Maki、重いのに＆遠いのに、本当に担いで来てくれてありがとう！　念願のロイズチョコレートが食べられて幸せ～❤で、Makiの部屋で食べた生チョコも、す・・・っごくおいしかった！　感謝、感謝です＾＾）　食べてばっかりですが(笑)、私はこの数日間でおいしいデザートやチョコレートをたくさん食べて、身体が重くなった気がします。。

まだまだ書き足りないのですが、他のみんなからの報告もあると思うので、とりあえずこれでポストします。

私の視点

I arrived to the hotel early.
ホテルに早く着いてしまったので
So I sat down and waited.
私は座って待っていたんですよね～
It was thrilling time for me.
それはとってもスリリングな時間だったんだ～
Then David showed up but I was not sure if he is David or not.
そしたらデイビッドが現れたんだけど、果たして本当にデイビッド
なのかどうか不安だったんだ。
I have known his face by some books and internet.
デイビッドの顔はインターネットや本で知ってはいたけど
I hadn't the nerve to speak out to him my name.
声をかける勇気がなかったんだよね～
But I did it.
だけどやったよ！
David gave me a smile and relieved.
デイビッドは微笑んでくれて安心したんだ。
At the time, Tomo recognized us and she was approaching to us.
その時、Tomoが気づいてくれて近づいて来てくれたんだ。
That was when the time started our great time.
その時から、私たちの素晴らしい時間が始まったんだ。
I don't remember exactly but Tomo had been there with someone.
正確には覚えてないんだけど、Tomoが誰かと一緒に居たよ
As long as I can remember, it was Anne.
覚えている限りではAnneだったと思う。
それからAnneがオーロラの写真を見せてくれたりして他のメンバー
が来るのを待っていたよ。
その後、Appohだけはすぐに分かったよ。とにかく背が高くてAppohに
間違いないって思ったよ。緊張してたせいか誰がどんな順番でホテルに
到着したかは覚えていないけど、みなさんと握手をして会ったのを覚えて
いるよ。デイビッドがみなさんの椅子を確保するのを気遣ってくれて優しい
な～って感心したっけ～。５時　５５分頃までGussanをロビーで待って居た
のだけれど、もしかしたら直接、会場に行ったのかも？　とTomoが判断し３階の
会場に向かってエレベーターを降りたらGussanが待っていました。
Gussan 不安になったんじゃないのかな～と思いました。

みなさん好きなところに座ってください、ただしデイビッドは真ん中ね！と言う
Tomoの促しでみんな好きな所に座ったよ。

こんな配列だったかな？

前半はどちらかと言うと英語で話してた割合が多かったかな？
みなさんやるな～と思いました。なかでもGussan が一番英語を話して
いた気がしました。是非、見習わなければと思ったものでした。
それからKiyokoさんもとにかく英語で話そうって言う意気込みを感じさせて
くれました。とにかくみんな英語に対するモチベーションを持っているな～と
改めて感じましたし、参加して良かったな～って心から思えた日でした。
あれからまた、何だか皆さんにパワーを頂いた気がして、今現在に至っています。
また是非とも参加したいと思っています。
みなさんで撮った写真、デイビッドにお願いしてこのブログに載せてもらうことに
なっています。参加出来なかったみなさん、楽しみに待っていてくださいね。

イベントの話を少しだけ。
ホテルには少し早めに着いたんですが、老眼鏡（！）を自宅に忘れてしまって、急遽駅まで簡単なめがねを買おうと小走りに歩いていたら向こうからDavid が...写真で顔を知っているのですぐに分かりました。Hi....~~とそそくさと挨拶をして駅までまっしぐら。ホテルでは、Tomoの顔も知っているのですぐに分かりましたよ。話した感じもイメージどうりでした。他の皆さんも大きくかけ離れたイメージの方はありませんでした。
なにを話したかって？英会話学校の話も出ましたね。円高の話とか、単身赴任の話とか、いろいろ。そうですね、gussan,kazu
Lilyもかな、英語でよくお話していたのは。〈違っていたらごめんなさい）それからkiyokoさんも色々な話題で英語で話したいらっしゃいましたね。
Maki,ホントにいっぱいチョコレートかついで来てくれてありがとう。このところ、ずーと美味しい物をいただき続けているので真剣にダイエットを考えないといけないのに、どんどん口の中．．．あー美味しかった！

amo, ヨークの写真ありがとう、独特の建物、雰囲気、いつか行ってみたいです。

２時間はあっという間でしたね。２次会も日本語英語交じりで、楽しく過ごしました。
皆さんと初めて直接お会いするのに、初めての感じがしないのはなんとも不思議な感じでした。
いつかこんな感じで皆さんとまたお話しする機会がもてたらうれしいです。
PS. 私もスープが美味しかったかな？

Hi Kei,
Welcome to this English world. I'm glad to have you here. You're a newcomer so I'd like to give you a short story. Why? Because you sometimes check this blog, I see you know the reason already.

I went to a building just near a well-known bridge in Tokyo the other day. The letter said I went to the "Katokichi building" near "Kachidoki-bashi". I took the subway from my office and got off at "Kachidoki-bashi" and I found the building really easily. I entered but I couldn't find the company there. Then, I went out and checked the name again. I compared the letter and the building. "This is Katokichi and here is Kachidoki...? There is something strange." I suddenly realized that the building where I should go was not Katokichi but Kachidoki near the Kachidoki-bashi. Do you understand ? Too confusing, isn't it?

私が行くべきだったのは、「加ト吉ビル」ではなくて「勝鬨ビル」だったのです。案内状とビルのロゴは、すべてカタカナまたはローマ字で書かれていたので不覚にも勘違いしました。勝鬨橋付近にお越しの際は是非確認してみてください。勝鬨ビルと加ト吉ビルは両方とも本当に勝鬨橋の近所にありますよ。紛らわしいです。

It's nice to meet you. Welcome this blog!
I've been remembering at my first posting time while reading your comment. As not same as you, I had been considering this blog as a popular blog site or something like that. At first, I hesitated what to do join the blog or not and I felt something a generation gap, because I was senior and my memory was getting poor day by day.

However, I started to make a comment last January consciously, anyway.
Besides, I joined the blog event this time, and I had a really good time at the blog members' event in Tokyo.

Both the blogging and seeing was quite different from real experience before. I've recognized it.
So I'm glad to hear that you finally decided to join this blog after long thinking time and you were able to make up your mind to continue studying English.
Don't worry about forgetting English words and phrases, because I'm deeply suffering my bad memory every day.

Hi David, It was the first time in my life, join the blog with PC even though in English version and also its event!!.
Anyway, I was very happy to meet you. I'm sorry to say, I took some pictures at that time but my camera's battery was poor, so they were all out of focus.

Thank you for sharing friendly party with you on last Saturday, and I'm sorry that I'm late for putting on my message on this blog.

Tomo-san,
I really appreciate you orgnized the party for us. The hotel gave us good space and good service, I think.

I can't write my comment for every member as Appoh-san did, but I have to say thank you for every member again.

I was a little suprised that David has some special food which he can't eat because genarally spaeking, teachers don't have the tendency.
But that is no problem.

I tried not to speak Japanese during the party.
However, I had to use Japanese to say what I thougt afte drinkin much wine(^^;).

Anyway, I hope we can share good time again.

I'm glad to hear you who joined the blog event had a great time in it. I really wanted to join it.
Lily, everyone wanted to see me? I'm very happy to hear it. I want to see you too. I promise to join it next time!

The other day, I had a piano concert of my students. All of them played very well. I have a student who is 8. He is very shy. On that day, he was getting nervous and said "I don't want to play piano!". (It was the first time for him to do it at the stage.) But he played very well!! After the concert, he said "I want to join the piano concert again!", so I was happy.

Maki - You are right. It was the first time we'd met, but it felt like I had known everyone(including you!) for a long time. As you know, the hotel we stayed has a branch in Sapporo as well, so let's have a meeting event in Hokkaido someday;-)

Amo - Thanks for sharing the pictures you took when you went on a trip to Britain. They were beautiful! I'd love to go there someday. By the way, how's your cold? Hope you get better soon!

Kazu - I didn't notice you were in the lobby at first. When I saw you talk to David, I thought, “That must be Kazu!” You were a very friendly person just like I had imagined. Thanks again for giving such a wonderful report of the event!

Anne - Oh yes, we talked about 英会話学校, 円高(←I'm still not sure if I understand this, ha ha), and 単身赴任. By the way, thank you for taking me to the Yamanote line at Tokyo station on the second day. Thanks to you, I didn't get lost!(Well, to tell the truth, I got lost at the next station..(笑))

Appoh - Thanks for your nice words! You ARE very kind:-) Actually, when I told everyone about the blog event, I thought you might be in the US around that time, so it was great to meet you before you go to America. By the way, I enjoyed reading your short story. I didn't know this character ‘鬨’!

Kiyoko - Thank you very much for joining the event. We stayed at the hotel, had breakfast together, and had some sweets in the cafe near Tokyo station on the second day. We talked a lot, didn't we?

Gussan - Thanks for your kind comment. As I said, I didn't have much information about you, so it was nice to meet you at the event. Now I can have some image of you.(in a good meaning, of course!) By the way, my husband was also in a good mood last night because of the victory of 'samurai Japan'.

Lily - Glad to find your report of the event! Actually, I made this comment in the morning, but I was waiting for your comment because I wanted to write some message to you as well. Yes, it was great to meet you at last! Like Appoh said, you were just like your name 'lily' - elegant and lovely:-) I remember that we talked about this kind of blog event a long time ago(maybe about two years ago?), and finally we made it! You can't wait for the next one? I can't wait for it, either!
Anyway, thanks again for joining the event, and gook luck with the tough translation;-)

Amica - Glad to hear that the piano concert went well. Yes, we all wanted to see you! David also said that he wanted to see you because you are interesting. I really hope you can make it next time;-)

Hi team,

I'm at Aoki san's house in Naka Shihoro. I was playing with Hina and Rana earlier, but they have gone to bed now. They are even cuter than last year! And a new Aoki is on the way - this time, it's a boy. He is due at the beginning of June.

It's snowing in Naka Shihoro tonight, and it's really cold. It feels strange after all the warm weather we were having in Aichi before I left, but it's nice.

Anyway, I will be back on Monday, so I'll upload the photos of the event then.

Hi everyone
Here is my report
It was about 5:45 when I got to the hotel, and I looked for Tomo. Then I noticed a group some Japanese gathered around one foreigner. I approached the group, and when I was about to call out, Tomo said “You must be amo, right?” I was surprised why she recognized me??? It’s nothing, because I was the last person to show up besides Gussan.
And then we went upstairs to have dinner and nice conversation.
At first, I was bit of nervous but when everyone introduced me, my uneasy feeling disappeared. Everyone was so nice and kind.
I really had a good time. Thank you everyone.

Thank you for sharing a funny story about Kachidoki and Katokichi, which brought me a fond memory far way back in my childhood. When I was a kid, the bridge used to open and close at the center of it according to its schedule. You may image how old I am since the bridge have left closed for a long time. As our family graveyard is near there, even if in the middle of visiting the grave, I rushed to the bridge to watch it from opening to closing. It was so exciting for me to watch the scene every time I visited the grave usually twice a year in spring and in autumn.
It seems cherry blossoms will be in full bloom in a few days in Tokyo.

Hi Tomo,

David, Tomo, Anne, Maki and me had breakfast together in a hotel restaurant, and had some sweets in the cafe near Tokyo station on the second day.

Hi David and everyone,

This morning I was sooo surprised( good surprise,of course!) when I opened a weekly newspaper"Asahi Weekly" which I have subscribed to. As you know, each English newspaper and magazines feature the articles kind of " how to use or choose dictionaries" this time of year and so did " Asahi Weekly".
Among the articles, it introduces four dictionaries 『　本誌おすすめの新刊英語辞書』;　「オーレックス英和辞典」、「オックスフォード英語類語辞典」、「英和翻訳表現辞典」、AND 【英語じょうずになる事典】。
It's not my book(of course!), but I was sooo happy to find out this article that I just wanted to let you know. That's why I left a comment this early in the morning!
