Downloading YouTube Clips
Hi everyone,
The weather is indeed better today, and I was planning to go for a ride on my bike. Unfortunately, I had a computer mishap, so I have had to work all day just to catch up to where I was yesterday.
I got an email today from a Scottish guy I met in Malaysia last year. He has built a web page of YouTube clips that are useful for learners and teachers of English, and it just won an award from the British Council.
The URL for his page is http://www.teflclips.com/
When I was looking at his page, I found a really good article about how to download YouTube videos and store them on a computer or an iPod. I'm sure that most of you already know how to do this, but in case there are some others like me who are not very good with technology, here is the link.
http://www.teflclips.com/?p=147
The clip he uses to explain the procedure is very funny. I'll post it here for those who don't want to read the article. Have you seen this before?
Anyway, I have to get back to work now, but have a look around his home page and you will find lots of other clips of videos that are helpful for learners of English.
Speak to you soon,
David

Hi David,
You had a computer mishap?(I didn't know the word 'mishap.') That's too bad.. I hope you can go for a ride on your bike soon.(maybe tomorrow?)
By the way, the clip 'the sneezing baby panda' is so funny! It gave me a big laugh. I showed it to my children, and my oldest son said that he had seen it before.(He likes watching funny videos on You Tube.) My second son was laughing out loud, and my daughter loved the clip. She watched it again and again and again. I guess she'll watch it tomorrow too. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Yusuke and Reika,
Welcome to the blog! It's nice to have you with us. As David said, please feel free to ask if there is anything that you don't understand. We can all help you. Look forward to hearing from you again!(Anne, thanks for posting their comments.)
Hi Amo,
Glad to hear you learned some new phrases from the video. Actually, I didn't know the phrase 'cheeky grin', either. I just came up with the word 'grin' from the sound Lily wrote, so I also learned a new expression;-)
Anyway, good luck with your new study!
Hi Maki,
I learned a lot of new expressions and some new words, so it was good study for me as well;-) By the way, Alex also helped us with the transcript. ‘I'm really from shock.’→‘I'm reeling from shock.’
Hi Anne,
I checked the book ‘天才!--成功する人の法則’on Amazon. The English in the original book is difficult for me, and I'm too busy to read it at the moment, so I might get the Japanese version. Thanks for the information!
See you soon,
Tomo
PS David, I'll check his home page later.

>David
Happy birthday!
Sorry for my late celebration.
(But, in fact, I don't know your birthday!)
Thank you for your sharing a nice tip.
I know the same kind of site and I have converted some music videos to mp3(not mp4)s and listened by ipod or mobile phone.
In these days, we can see any Youtube videos in mobile phone and save them on it.
But I have never used Youtube for my English study like everyone joining this blog until now.
So I'll try to use it for my study.
>Amo
Thank you for your reply to my comment!
I should have write that comment on a new topic to be seen by everyone.
How nice you are studying for your work!
But it's really tough to study the same contents even in your home.
I also study what related to my own work on weekday but sometimes it's hard for me.
Don't push yourself so hard and take it easy and enjoy!

Hi David,
Computer mishap? I'm sorry to hear that, and hope you have a time to ride on a bike today.
I like the video"The sneezing baby panda". It's funny and lovely! I laughed a lot.
Thank you for letting us know the interesting web page . I'm not good at computer, either, but his explanation sounds easy to follow. I'll try to download You Tube videos on my iPod later. I watched some of the videos , and it's interesting.
>Maki,
Yes! She is one of the'Outliers'! A.C motivates me to study English,haha...
>Tomo,
You are welcome!
> Yuu,
Sorry, I missed your comment. So, you are a man. I see.
As for Ohenro, I don't go there all the way by walking but go by bus, so it's not tough. Anyway, I walk a lot, and visiting each temples and chanting gives me something good and I feel good.
>Amo,
Study for your work sounds tough. Hope you have a time to relax.
Talk to you soon,
Anne

Hi David,
I found a question from who has your new book on one of the old entries. Please have a look at it.
『How are you, David-sensei?
I have a question in relation to 25 auxiliary verbs of 「Eigo zyouzu ninaru Jiten」. When you say "How much do these trousers cost?", I presume that you mean "that pair of trousers" by saying "these trousers". If I want to buy only one pairt of trousers instead of two or more, is it not better to say "that pair of trousers" rather than "these trousers"?
Toshi Tatsumi 2009年05月19日 13:09 』

- 2009年5月19日 13:16
Thanks Tomo. Hi Toshi, that's a really good point. It's 'these/those trousers' or 'this/that pair of trousers'. The same is true for glasses, shoes, and anything else that can be counted as a pair.

Good morning, David and everyone.
As I guessed, my daughter watched the panda's clip again many times yesterday, and she watched it this morning too. I'm glad she loved the clip, but while she is watching it, I can't use my computer!(笑)
I checked the web page and watched a lot of clips of videos, and I found a very sweet video of two sea otters. I'm not sure if you can learn something new about English from this clip, but I'm sure it makes you smile. If you are interested, have a look at the right-hand side of the home page, and you'll see the place called 'Lesson plans & articles'. Click on 'Lesson plan 4 Recall the clips', and you'll see 15 links of the clips.(I watched all of them.) Try to find the clip 'Two sea otters holding hands.' They are adorable! I loved it.
Have a nice day!

Hi David,
I watched the web page you recommended. I'm not good with technology, so I didn't know how to download YouTube videos and store them on my computer. I tried it at once, and I could download them, but I could store only their sound. Why???
Hi Tomo,
I watched the clip "Two sea otters holding hands". Yes, they are adorable!!

Hi David,
The weather is good here today. It is good season for going for a ride on a bike, isn't it?Thank you for giving us new information.I'll check it.
By the way,you talked about Adam in American Idol
>He is so much better than the other two that it is ridiculous,(on May 11th Talk Shows, the second line from the top).
Did you use the word 'ridiculous' as a complement?
Hi Tomo,Anne,and Lily,
You are great! Thank for helping us to listen to the video of Susan Boyle's performance, but unfortunately I could only catch scraps of their conversation even though I watched the transcript.
Anne,I read 'The Last Lecture' by Randy Pusch in translation.皆の背中がどんどん遠くなる。待ってくれー。

Hi May,
大丈夫、待ってますよ^^ Mayの質問ですが、He is so much better than the other two that it is ridiculous, は、アダムは他の2人に比べるとずば抜けていて勝負は見えているから ridiculous ということではないでしょうか。

Hi David,
In the other day, David recommended BBC News Video is rather watching easy than CNN com. Because there is different commercial messages from BBC and CNN.
On the other hand, you showed the URL: teflclips.com, I tried to click it and succeeded show up the main display, but I gave it up download, as it was difficult to do it.
Anyway, many times, thank you for your good information.
Hi everyone,
In this spring, under the cherry trees, I met a young lady and we had a fruitful discussion about life style. At first, we started the chatting frankly, but it was getting hotter and hotter. What's more, she was remarkable talent speaking English. She was surprised to know that I have been studying English conversation.
At my birthday, she and me had a celebration lunch time at the restaurant.
However, she is going to Tokyo for her husband's transfer in near days. I was chocked to hear the news by telephone.
Amazingly, she introduced me to the next new family ( buyer ) , they were living nearby her apartment house.
The Chinese family's two children played the violin for us, and Chinese wife baked bread and cake for us. I was really impressed for my new friend's kind doing and foreign friend's treatment. I'm looking forward to visit the Chinese house.
See you later,
Kiyoko

I just saw the result of American Idol. I don't want to mention it here in case "Himitsu" is still reading, but if you want to know, you can see lots of articles about it on the Internet.

Hi David,
I checked it and read some of the articles! なるほど!
Thanks for the information.
By the way, I could download You Tube videos and store both on my computer and an itune. Yeah!!
Actually, I've been wanting to do it, and listen to the interviews on iPod, so I'm happy now^^)
>Amica,
I'm not good with computer, so why I could store on iPod, but did you store it in Video or Movie on iPod not on Music?
指示に従ってダウンロードして、ファィルのvideoにいれ、ituneのムービーの部分にコピーして入れましたが。Susan Boyle のinterviewストックできました。理屈でお話できないところが、悲しい(涙)
>May,
みんな、一緒にいますよ~^^)
ridiculous Tomoの意見に賛成。
He is so much better than the other two that it is ridiculous+to talk if Adam is going to be in the final or not.と+部分を補って考えてもいいかもしれません。(so~that--なので~構文)
I read his book last summer, too! It was touching, wasn't it?
>Tomo,
I watched the video you recommended。It's so lovely.
By the way, I also checked his web page, and watched a lot, and among them, I like "Lesson plan16, Children's song". I tried to sing a song following with a melody, but as I've always been saying, I'm not good at singing, so it was a bit tough to follow first . Actually, I sang more than three times,haha..
And take a look at the corner "some more song". It's funny!
*Heads and shoulders, knees and toes (sung by Bono?)
*Old MacDonald (sung by Phil Collins?)
*Counting to 4 with Feist on Sesame Street (catchy song)
See you soon,
Anne

Hi Anne,
You are early bird, aren't you?
I tried to get up early in the morning on the day before yesterday. It was a clear day, and sunshine was escaping from behind the curtain. I opened it at one push.
It was still five o'clock. In my usual way, most house-works finished by 10 a.m. Therefore, I've had a enough time in the morning, and I realized again " The early bird catches the worm".
I could do many things like a bird, and I was comfortable all day, anyway. It was just "Kill two birds with one stone".
It's the best season to change from the night bird to the early bird, isn't it?
Good night,
Kiyoko

Hi Kiyoko,
I'm afraid to say that they don't say night bird usually in English.
They say 'night owl', I suppose.
See ya,

Hi Gussan,
Thank you for your advice.
By the way, your posting time is 04:09, you are night owl or early bird? Of course, I think you are early one. To say the truth, I used to 'night crow' before, but on this time I tried to use the new word (made by myself), because I thought there would be no problem they were in the same 'bird'.
Hi everyone,
I'm going to the school sports day tomorrow and cheer for my grandson's color 'white' with my husband. It will be sunny cloudy, and I'll be safe from the sunburn.
Have a great weekend!

Hi David and everyone,
It's windy today. The wind blows strongly around here at this time of year.
I checked the web site David recommended. I saw "two sea otters holding hands". I have seen the photo in the newspaper before. I think they are more adrable on You Tube than they are in the photo. They released their hands and held hands again. How cute! See you next week.
Hi kiyoko,
Enjoy the sportsday.

Hi David,
I'm sorry to hear that you had to work all day without riding on your lovely bike. The weather here is better as well.
The web page is very interesting and I watched some articles. Besides, it's very useful to know how to download YouTube videos and store them on a computer or an iPod! Thanks for the tip! I'm also not very good with tecnology.;-)
"Panda surprise" is really funny, isn't it?!
Hi Anne,
It's interesting that 勝間和代 translated 'Outliers' into Japanese! I think that she is one of 'Outliers', don't you think so? Though I haven't finished the English one yet. As you said, I'm also wondering whether the word "天才" is sutable for 'Outliers' .
Oh, you are a big fun of Anderson Cooper, aren't you? I SEE!;-)
Talk to you later,
Maki
