Michael Jackson - Corrections

Hi team,

Well, we have had a very lively debate this week, and not only about Michael Jackson! Over the course of the week, there have been lots more strange stories coming out about him, so it is difficult to know what to believe. Anyway, I will always be a fan of his music.

This week, I had to write a long document in Japanese at my university. I haven't done that type of writing for a long time, so it was very interesting. When I had finished, a Japanese friend sat down with me and pointed out all my errors. It really is the most effective way to study, in my opinion.)

Anyway, here is my feedback on your comments this week.

When I sing this song at Karaoke, I enjoy imitating each original singer a bit although it is not alike at all (... although I don't sound like them at all.)

my classmates were full of topic about it. (My classmates were all talking about it.)

If I remember correctly, they also danced to the song "Beat it". ('If I remember correctly, ...' is a very useful expression.)

I was surprised that they were allowed to make a video. (Very good.)

Anyway, I have to do all until leave Japan. (I have to do it all before I leave Japan.)

When I returned my desk my PC showed the warn "time out" so I tried to post again.(惜しい！Change 'warn' to 'warning' and it is a good sentence.)

Thank you for sharing the interesting story that I didn’t know well. (This should be 'an interesting story' because it is not the only story that you don't know very well.)

I am not sure these ones are true or just rumors, though. (I'm not sure whether these stories are true or whether they are just rumours.)

I've heard a lot of rumors and scandals about him, but I'm not sure they were true or not. (As in the above sentence, you need 'whether' - I'm not sure whether they were true or not.)

My mother has been working for SUZUKI. ('My mother works for Suzuki' or 'My mother used to work for Suzuki.)

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. (Very good. This is a useful sentence for this blog.)

You are SO TRUE! (What you say is so true!)

when I got home and checked the blog again, the comment has been deleted already. (This is a good example of when you should use the past perfect tense 過去完了形. 'got home' is in the past tense, and the comment was deleted before that, so it should be 'had already been deleted.)

"Do the Hustle" reminds me my junior-high life. (惜しい！You need 'of' after 'reminds' - 'reminds me of my ...')

It's been quite a long time since I last commented, so I hope everything is going well for you all. (This is perfect, and it is a useful sentence for many of you.)

I wish you could accept my comment. (I hope you will accept my comment. - if you use 'wish' here, you would have to use 'would' instead of 'could', and the meaning would be that you knew your comment was not going to be accepted.)

I'm going to listen to his music when I have a chance. (Very good - a useful sentence structure.)

Ok, point taken. (This is a very useful and natural expression that means you accept someone else's argument.)

My favorite his song is “Black or White” (My favorite song of his is 'Black or White'.)

I also remember that I watched the video for the first time. (I also remember watching the video for the first time.)

I recharged my batteries and I'm fine now. (This is a nice expression. 'I need to recharge my batteries' is also quite common.)

I'm looking forward to talk about lots of things with you! (I'm looking forward to talking ...)

I burst into a laugh. (I burst out laughing.)

・when I got home and checked the blog again, the comment had already been deleted. (I should have used the past perfect tense. そうでした、過去完了形でした！　コメントが消えていた状態に引っ張られて現在完了形にしてしまいました。　already の位置も違いましたね。 I tend to use 'already' at the end of a sentence like that.　have/had と been の間に副詞を入れる響きに慣れてないです。）

・OK, point taken. (I didn't know this expression.　経済的な表現ですね。)

・I burst out laughing. (I see, this is the best(or the most common?) translation for ‘ふき出す’ or ‘大笑いする’, right? Actually, I have checked it in some dictionaries and on Google several times before, and I found a lot of translations for it, so I was not sure which one to use.

・Over the course of the week (This is not from your corrections but your entry. I have seen the expression 'over the course of ～' before on this blog, but I've never used it, so I want to learn it.)

By the way, I watched the news on TV this morning that Michael Jackson was having a rehearsal for his concert. It was two days before he died, and he looked great in the rehearsal.

* I'm not sure whether these stories are true or whether they are just rumours.→　I forgot to put "whether ", but I thought I didn't need the part "whether they are" because the subject was the same.

*Over the course of the week→I used"over the last few weeks" , but I've never used this expression , so I want to use it sometime soon. By changing the part "the week", there are a lot of ways to express.

*point taken.→Interesting! It's new to me.

*If I remember correctly→I like this expression.

Actually I'm wondering which sentence is good; the first sentence and the second one. You usually use the expression"I don't think...." not the one" I think S＋negative verb" in English, right?

I must admit it, and that was a point well taken, if I ,however, remember rightly, an auxiliary verb 'could' in these sentences has often got to refer to 'would be able to'. I knew that using 'would' insted of 'could' ought to be common, but that situation made me use 'could' because I doubted your magnanimity, which would be equivalent to 'ability', to try to accept my rudeness and was not hoping you all to do so.

突然すいません。
yumekoさんがMieさんを意地悪ばあさん呼ばわりしたとき、「こんなこと言っちゃうんだ、かっこいい！yumekoさん」と思いましたよ。
でも、その後に「意地悪ばあさんはかつての私のアイドルだから、本当は謝る必要はない」って··。そんな理屈、ネット上でも実社会でも通用しませんよ。
yumekoさんがそう思うのはご自由ですが、「それっておかしくありませんか？」と言う人がMieさん１人だなんて、なんだかお気の毒で、思い切ってコメントさせていただきました。

私自身はMieさんの味方というわけではありません。初登場からjapだのcrapだの言う人が好意的に受け入れられるはずもないのは当然だと思いますし、どうしてこんなに好戦的なのかも理解できません。
それに、Mieさん自身はもう既に相変わらずの身も蓋もないコメント、なさってますしね··。

このブログは、スタート当初から楽しみに読んでいます。次回は英語でコメントできるでしょうか··？

Hi Anne, thank you very much for showing the video about Michael's. I was trying to catch their conversations, and I thought about him again a lot.

As Tomo mentioned this time on the comment, I also watched that Michael's news on TV.
He had done rehearsal for his performances perfectly two days before he died.
I found out that Michael had more sensitive spirit than his looks.
He might not have thought he became that his future that he had been ended his life like this tragic.(彼は彼の人生がこのような悲劇的な最後になるとは思ってもいなかったでしょう。と書きたいのですが・・・）

Anyway I only enjoy reading and writing to improve for my English, so I want to read homey tone (feeling comfortable) story on this blog.

Hey, am I combative? Sorry, I am not at all, but I definitely admit that you are quite challenging judging from this comment of yours and I cannot help admiring your attitude toward the community.

Why did you ask that nobody except me disagreed on the postscript of yumeko's, even though you knew the reason enough? It is merely because yumeko is a member of this community named 'team'.

Well, I will give you a reason why I have been using belligerent expressions in the blog after recieving your next comment in English.

I said I was in between, where I felt comfortable. I'm so sad you haven't noticed yet that I am a person who wants to be free not belonging to a certain group, however, I definitely never mind it that David and other members use the word 'team'. Isn't it so important? It's OK, isn't it?! Some people feel happy and some people feel uncomfortable. That’s it. Why did you need to complain about that?

I have been enjoying being here very much. I really thank David and everybody, and you, too. I learned a lot of new expressions from everybody's comments.

Why do you think I could enjoy so much? It was not because I was a team member but because I could use English as real live words.

I must select what to do for my precious time. What's more, I don't want to destroy such a warm and nice environment for everybody.

When I was making this sentence, I wrote “My favorite song of his songs is….” at first.
I thought it’s not good to repeat same word, so I changed it, but all I need to do was just erase “songs”. I got it.

What's wrong with you? Don't be so impatient.
How cme you need so much to stick to denying being a member, saying you didn't care about it?
What did you mean 'you are in between'?

On a little reflection, what you were saying, i.e., 'you were in between', definitely showed that you were sometimes a member or an insider of the 'team' and it generally implied that other members seemed to accept you as a member, judging from my petty suspicions.

I mean you are not making any sense.
Oh, are you saying 'yumeko is not, although nekotaro was'? I couldn't quite get it right though.

In so far as the words 'community' and 'team' are concerned, I have had nothing to complain of so far.
I just pointed out that they sounded strange and exclusive to me simply because they meant a group of people who gathered for a specific purpose and were sometimes against another group.

The word 'comunity' always remind me of a somewhat notorious Japanese, Chinese, Korean community or something else in the middle of nowhere in the US or London.

It is great that you enjoy commenting here, and I would like you to keep doing so as frequent as you can.

I have never ever deliberately tried to spoil the atmosphere in the blog. It's beyond my willingness.

確かに"community"や"team"には、Mieが書いている意味がありますが、その他にも"commmunity"には、"a group of people who have something in common"、"team"には"a group of people who work together"という意味もありますよね。
Davidやこのブログに参加している人達が"team"という言葉を使うのは、『一緒に英語を楽しく学んでいる仲間』をスポーツなどのチームのように"team"と呼んでいると思います。
それに、ここにコメントをして一緒に学ぼうとしている人はみんな"team"のメンバーです。「この人はメンバーで、この人はメンバーじゃない」とは誰も思っていないと思います。（当のご本人の認識は、また別のこととしてね。）
ひとつの個人攻撃的な投稿,その消去から話題が続いていますが、消去については"Point taken."ですよね。"team"ということについては、いろいろ考えや認識の違いはあると思いますが、上に書いた内容で"Point taken."は無理ですか？
月曜日にはまた新しいtopicについて、意見を出し合っていきませんか？Anneも言っていましたが、Mieの意見を英語で聞けるのを楽しみにしています。
