Stationery

Hi team,

How was your weekend? I spent the both days working, so I didn't get a chance to go out on my bikes at all. I haven't touched any of them for a while now - I think they are probably feeling a bit lonely and unloved. Anyway, I hope you had more fun this weekend than I did.

This week's topic is things that you love or get excited about even though most people are not interested in them at all. As you will have guessed from title of the entry, stationery is one of my favourite things, but I have absolutely no idea why. I love it all - pens, staplers, files, you name it! Yesterday, I went to the home centre because I needed some highlighter pens, and it was the best part of my weekend! (I bought a set of six different colours of highlighters, and I spent the rest of the day merrily highlighting everything I could find.)

I actually bought another wonderful piece of office equipment while I was there. It is a machine for counting things - you just click a button on the top, and it records the number of times you have clicked it. I absolutely love it, but again, I'm not really sure why.

I think that one of the reasons I love stationery and office equipment is that I love organizing things. (Before you ask, my blood type is 'O', not 'A'.) Putting things into files keeps me happy for hours. I recently had to organize all the academic papers I have read for my PhD into files arranged in alphabetical order. That was a very enjoyable half a day.

Without a doubt, my favourite piece of stationery is clear plastic files. I have hundreds of them in my office, but I always seem to keep running out. I don't know where they go! I'm going to get some made for my company with the BTB Press logo on them - I can't wait! My favourite piece of office equipment is my label maker. This was a bit more expensive, but making labels and sticking them on things can keep me occupied for hours at a time.

Okay, okay, you don't need to tell me - I am very strange, and if this is just me, then we are not going to have a very interesting week, but if some of you have strange fetishes (ones that you can talk about!) please share them with the rest of us.

Have a great week,

David

Comments

Hi David,
Thank you for your feedback. To tell the truth, it is very difficult to understand all now, but your advice helps me.

I like clear plastic files, too. I often buy them, so I should have lots of them, but I don't know why, they are gone. So I have to buy them again... I know how you feel. Where they go!?
About the fetish I have. I love cutting my fingernails. As you know, I'm a piano teacher, and I play piano, so I can't grow long my fingernails, but I don't mind it at all because I love cutting it. My friends love painting their nails. Of course, I think they are pretty, but I don't think that I want to do it. I can't stand to have long nails, so I cut it even if the white parts of nails are a little. My sister usually paint her fingernails. The other day, I went to her house. When we were talking, her son asked her. "Mom, why you paint your fingernails?" She said "Because I'm a woman." He asked me "You are a woman, aren't you? Why your fingernails are so short? Why you don't paint it?" My sister said "Well...., she might be not a woman!!" Her joke was not funny!!
I have lots of nail clippers. In my room, in my car, in my pencil case, in my makeup box...., so I can cut it everywhere. I'm a strange?

Hi everyone,
How was your weekend? I went to go shopping and watch a movie with my friend. The weather was not good, and I didn't buy anything, but I had a pleasant time.

Hi Kazu,
As Tomo said, I had a problem like it you had.
めげずに何度でもトライしましょ~♪

Hi Maki,
" 出会う回数が多いのは、たくさんコメントしている証拠!" ← I like this!

Amica

Hi everyone,
How was your weekend ? I had a great time to see Gion festival in Kyoto. I hope you enjoyed or will enjoy summer events with your loved ones.

This weeks theme is not in my territory because I'm not good at putting things away. I think I can feel comfortable when I see things are slightly scattering. 'Slightly' not 'extremely' is important here. So I found it hard to share some interesting stories about stationery.

Anyway, who invented a 'sharp pencil' ?
I've heard a 'sharp pencil' is Japanese-English for a mechanical pencil.
However, I've also heard 'Sharp', a Japanese giant company, who manufactures solar cells and liquid crystal displays, created this 'sharp pencil'. As you see, that's why 'sharp pencil' can be Japanish.

Appoh

Hi David,

This week's topic is stationery?
Let me see,
Come to think of it.
When I was high school student.
Some of classmate who are girl had a sheet of plastic painted idle.
But I didn't care about it.
I didn't even have that sort of things.

Recently, there are lot of funny things.
For example,hippopotamus staplers,things like that.
I don't care about sort of things except hippopotamus staplers.
I like hippopotamus staplers.
I don't have it, though.
Am I strange?
Can you imagine that I use it?
I'm sure I'm strange.

Hi Amica,

Let's enjoy writing a comment.
With regard to nail art.
I don't like a woman who do the nail art.
Am I strange?

Amica is a piano teacher, so it is natural that take care of your nail, isn't it?
I know that thing.
A little effort makes a big difference to your music.

See you

Kazu

Hi all,

I went hunting for unicorn beetles to a secret place with my sons (5 years old and 1year old) this weekend. we got 4 beetles. we saw a large hornet. we were very surprised but at the same time, I realized there were a lot of beetles around the place. And actually, my prediction was correct.

Anyway,
I need to check out schedule so I have a date book and a ballpoint pen.
I had seen a lot of date books to select a date book in a book store day after day. However, in the long run, I have been using a date book which our customer provided. It's very tough to choose one for me. I suppose I like the time that I am selecting stationery.

My ballpoint pen should have 4 colors.

Yoshi-

Hi team,

David, I liked this entry! I smiled when I read this "I spent the rest of the day merrily highlighting everything I could find", and I burst out laughing when I read this "Okay, okay, you don't need to tell me - I am very strange." Don't worry, you are not strange. I understand how you feel because I like stationery and office equipment, too. まぁ、Davidほどではないですが。。(笑) でもペンとか、いろんな色が揃っていると楽しくなるし、きれいに整理できると嬉しくなりますね。
I'll write about my strange fetish later if I think of anything.(今日は英語脳がお休みです。。)

Hi Mie,
Thank you for your help again. I understand it well.
I don't think your effort of improving your capability on writing good English is toward 'wrong way.' It's just that my reading skill is not good enough to read your English. Sorry to be so much trouble.

Good night, everyone.

Tomo

Hi Kazu,

This week's topic is "Things you are crazy about without knowing why." Stationery is just my example, but feel free to talk about anything you like.

Bye for now,

David

Hi everyone!

How are you feeling?Did you spend a good weekend?I went to movie to see "EVENGELION" with my friend. It was great!I think this is better than last one.I had a good time.

I thought about my favorite things that I love though most people aren't interested in them. One of my favorite things like that is sour something to eat.For example lemon, vinegar, umeboshi and yuzu..and so on.I sometimes eat lemon without any food!It is very good for me.And I bought a vinegar drink because I heard that it is sour(of couse!) and tasty.I often drink it.
I know it is strange.(I don't know someone eating the only lemon.)But I like it.So I understand David's
feeling because I have favorite things that everyone can agree.By the way I especially like erasers in my childhood.I felt a charm from erasres
so I collected many ones.

>Tomo

How are you?
I'm looking forward to reading your comment!
I want to listen to story of your favorite things.

>Appoh

Nice to meet you!
You went to the GION festival! It was so nice!
I like it.A few years ago I went there.
I think Kyoto is a beautiful city.I especially felt jyoucyo(情緒) from the GION festival.

See you soon!

Sorry!
I have a mistake!

>So I understand David's feeling because I have favorite things that everyone can agree.

I want to correct.

>So I understand David's feeling because I have favorite things that everyone can't agree.

Hi David and everyone,

David, you are not the only person who loves stationery. If you would say," I am very strange", I am very strange, too!
I love this topic!
My favorite stationery are clear files, greeting cards, cards, stamps and paper clips....
Whenever I go on a trip somewhere, I drop by shops that have a stationery corner, and spend time searching, watching, and getting something beautiful and lovely. So, the reason why I love stationery is not that I love organizing things, but I love something beautiful. I stock various kinds of stamps mainly with the design of flowers, and my most favorite stamps at the moment is a stamp sheet from " Anne of Green Gables" because I am a big fun of the book" Anne of Green Gables". I sometimes take it out and smile and it makes me happy. I also love collecting and buying cards including greeting cards. Whenever I go shopping, I can't resist dropping in there and buying something; something in various size, seasonal ones.
Oh, I forgot to mention one thing,"highlighter". I have more than six, hehe..... I don't mean to compete with you!
I use it when I read articles and study English, and whenever I use it, I feel I have studied enough.
OK, I can't stop stalking....

Hi Amica,
When I read your story, I can't stop laughing as usual.
Hi Appoh,
I didn't know the story about" Sharp".

Hi Nao,
I like "something sour", too! Do you like "シークゥワーサー”? It's one of my favorites.

I'll think about another my"fetishes" later.

Bye for now.

Anne

Hi Anne!

Thank you for telling about シークゥワーサー!
I have heard about シークゥワーサー.But I haven't drunken it yet.I will drink it someday!
You also like something sour!We have same fetishes:)
I'm looking forward to reading another your story!

PS
I remembered correct grammer to read your comment.Correct grammer is something+adjective!
(× sour something ○ something sour)
Thanks!
Nao

Hi David and everyone,

I had a good weekend. I went to see a summer festival and watched the fireworks display on Sunday. I've heard that fireworks display at some places have been canceled or scaled down this year because of the economic slump, but the one I saw on Sunday was great and spectacular, so I'm glad I went. There were also a lot of food stands, and I ate a lot there. It's not as cheap as it used to be, but I love ‘yatai’!

My strange fetish(Nao, thanks for your interest in my story, but I guess you would think I'm strange..(笑)), I think I have talked about this a long time ago on this blog, I like men's hands and arms especially ones with a wrist watch. I don't know why, but I just like them.(I've liked them since I was a child.) It's doesn't matter what kind of watch they are wearing because I'm not interested in brand-name goods, but I prefer analog watches to digital ones. I mean, I like ones that have a clock face and two hands.(Did I get my meaning across?) I like watching men playing the piano as well. I know women's hands and fingers are more beautiful than men's ones, but men's hands look beautiful to me, and they just fascinate me, ha ha.. I know I'm very strange!

Hi Amica,
I remember that one of my friends from high school who could play the piano very well always kept her fingernails short. I loved listening to her piano playing when I was in high school, so I often asked her to play some songs before our music class started.

Hi Appoh,
I knew that 'sharp pencil' is a Japanese-English word for a mechanical pencil, but I didn't know that Sharp created it. I see, that's why we call it 'sharp pencil'. That makes sense.

Hi Kazu,
Hippopotamus staplers? They sound lovely! I can imagine that you use it because I know your face;-)

Hi Yoshi,
You got 4 beetles in one night(or morning)? Your sons must be very happy.(and you too?) My sons used to love beetles and stag beetles, and they always kept some at this time of year. I'm scared of bugs, so it was a kind of tough time for me.. By the way, have you seen a beetle larva? I was very surprised when I saw it for the first time. They were very big and looked like カール!(←お菓子のカールです)

Hi Nao,
My middle son loves lemons, and he eats them, too. He sometimes tries to drink ‘ポッカレモン’(唐揚げなどにかける市販のレモン果汁です), so I have to say, “Stop it!”

Hi Anne,
<I have more than six, hehe... ←LOL!
Did you know that there are highlighters like a ballpoint pen? You don't have to open the cap, but just to press the knob at the end of a highlighter. ノック式の蛍光ペンがあるなんて知らなかったのでビックリしました。

Look forward to hearing everyone's strange fetish!

Tomo

Hi David and everyone,

I said that "I don't like a woman who do the nail art"
But I have to consider it.
I know that it is personal choice.
No one are forced to remove it.
Am I being frowned upon?
So I don't size them up about personality but I would just do to things.

Anyway, I was thinking about my fetish.
Fetish means something that someone spends too much time thinking about or doing.
I found it.
I tend to spend much time to post comment.
That is what it is my fetish to write something here.
It's joke. ;=`
Am I being frowned upon?

Oh! it came to me.

This is the one of my fetish.
When I eat rice cake, I'd like to put some mayonnaise and soy sauce after baked and wrap it with a sheet of toasted laver.
It's taste good.
Have you ever eaten this kind of rice cake?
I'll recommend this kind of way to eat to you.
If you try it, you should put soy sauce and mayonnaise enough.

Anyway,I'm looking forward to seeing someone's interesting comment.

P.S Hi tomo,
嬉しい回答をありがとう~(^_^;)
カバに似てるって言われるほうが性に合ってるんですが~

See you

Kazu

Hi David and Everyone,
David and Anne, I also LOVE stationaries! If there are "David's group" and "Anne's group", I would be in Anne's. Because "I love stationery is not that I love organizing things.", and maybe I'm strange, but not "very much".;-) My favourites are greeting cards, wrapping papers, pens, clear files and etc. Especially I love greeting cards. As Anne said, whenever and wherever I go on a trip, I drop in stationary shops, even in supper markets, to look for something to my taste. It's really the happiest moment for me. When I visited the UK, I bought more than 10 greeting cards and several wrapping papers.^^; As for highlighters, I have some different colours of them, but I usually use only yellow ones. I don't why, but I like yellow ones to use. Anyway, I love stationaries, regardless whether they are practical or not, and I can't resist getting them. I feel happy with simply owning them.

I will talk about another my fetish later.

Hi Amica,
Thank you!

Good night!

Maki

Hi Nao,
I'm glad to hear from you. Kyoto is a nice place to go. If I were a resident there, I couldn't appreciate all about Kyoto.

Hi Yoshi,
I bought a date book of this year last week. I had difficulties finding it.

Hi everyone,
I've noticed that we see more Japanese-English terms among stationery. For example, sharp pencil(mechanical pencil), ball pen(ball-point pen), cello tape(tape), joint or Hotchkiss(stapler), gum tape(packing tape) and 段ボール(cardboard). And what else ?

Appoh

Hi David

Stationery is one of my favourite things, too. I love things that you named, and I also like paper knives. One of my sisters has a beautiful paper knife. I’ve always wanted to buy one like that, but I haven’t met the one yet.
I can spend all day long in a stationery shop, just looking around.

My favourite things are shoe shine kits, tool kits, antique shaving kits (I don’t know what do you call this, but you can see them in old movies) of course I don’t need shaving kits in my life, but they are beautiful. For shoe shine kits, when I was a child I used to shine my parents’ shoes. I loved to do that it made me feel comfortable and also watching shining shoes made me feel happy. I sometimes shine my shoes just makes me feel comfortable.
For tool kits, I love things organized in a box or case.

Hi everyone

I am busy with my work, so I was not able to read your comments.
That’s why I can’t write a comment for each of you.
I am sorry but I will read all this weekend.

good night and sweet dreams

Hi everyone,

I've remembered that one of my fetish.
Because amo mentioned about shoe shine kits, so it came to me.
Thank you amo ;->

My fetish is check a smell of new books.
For some reason, I like smell of new book.
I can't stop checking smell.
I sometimes check smell of new books unconsciously even in a public.
I also checked smell of "英語じょうずになる辞典”
I'm sorry David.
But I like this smell.
This is my top of the fetish.

I didn't mean to hide it,but I just couldn't remember.

Amo's story reminded me about smell, that's why I remembered it.

Kazu

Hi Tomo,

Thank you for telling about your fetish.(笑)
I think my fetish is as strange as yours:)Because I can understand your fetish.
(「私もともさんのおっしゃる好みがわかるので、ともさんに負けないくらい変わった好みをしています」と伝えたかったのですが伝わっているでしょうか? こういうお話を英語でするとは思いませんでした。笑)

Your son also likes something sour!To tell the truth I wanted to drink "ポッカレモン” before. But I haven't drunken it yet..I can see your son's feeling!(笑)

Hi Maki,

Nice to meet you:)
I also like greeting card (post card).
I often buy it when I go on a trip or go to the museum.

Nao

Hi David and everyone!
Today' topic is fetish.
Actually I have a fetish about Johnny's.
I can't overlook magazines and TV program that they appear.
My daughter is their big fun, too.
Of course we are members of their fun club.
I know a few of Johnny's fun of my generathion.
Johnny' member give us a lot of energy!

Green

Hi Green,

How are you feeling?

I have the same fetish!I like Johnny's.
They give me power:)
I like songs of Kinki kids. And I love KOICHI.
What group do you like?
If you are okay, please tell me.

Nao

Hi David and everyone,
I was a bit embarrassed when I heard this word" fetish". My image towards this word is mainly from 'movies' or' novels' and it has slightly a taste of"adult" or "secret ones". Of course you often say "~フェチ”in Japanese, and hear it in your daily life, but I've never used this word casually before. That's why I'm a little bit embarrassed . Am I overreacting? Did I take things too seriously? Okay, Okay, I have to admit I'm too old to put these kinds of topics on the table casually as is often the case.
Speaking of "my fetish", I'm not sure if this is "fetish" or just" my favorite", but I really like smelling herbs including herbal oil. (My favorite oil at the moment is 'neroli'.) I grow a few herbs in my garden, and it is one of my favorite moment of the day to enjoy the scent of herbs every morning. It might be strange, but I often put my nose too close to them, so I have to be careful not to be bitten by insects.
Anyway, you see this word used in a nonsexual context, but it still kind of has that flavor. Don't you think so?

Hi Tomo,
I remember your story^^) My big brother's fingers were(!) so beautiful when he was young that he received a love letter from a student when he practiced teaching at a junior high school; " your fingers are very beautiful and I can't look aside from your fingers when you write something on the blackboard."

Hi Kazu,
I like the smell of a newly published book, too.
Sorry to say, I don't remember what the smell "英語じょうずになる事典”was like....

Hi Maki,
I also bought a lot of cards and envelopes when I went to the UK last fall. I was surprised that there were various kinds of greeting cards sold at the post office

Hi Nao,
You are welcome, but I didn't notice.
'シークゥワーサー’ is fruitier, I think.

Hi Green,
I like 'Johnny', too, but am not a member of fan club.

PS, I'm going to Shikoku,Ohenro from tomorrow, and will be back this Saturday night.

Bye for now,

Anne

Hi Anne!
Thank you and I'm very glad to hear that.
I took a spelling miatake...
fun → fan

Green

Hi Anne,

You are right about the word 'fetish'. That's why I didn't use it in the title of the entry. But I think everyone understands what I was trying to say now, so it's okay.

Hi David,
Thank you for answering my writings.
Please don't get me wrong! I'm not complaining about this topic and this word at all!
I just wrote down my honest feeling , and enjoyed thinking 'my fetish'^^)
Maybe I'm taking things too seriously.

Anne

Hi David and Everyone,
I couldn't access to the blog after posting my last comment last night becasue of アクセス不可.
Here is one which I couldn't post:

「訂正です。
I go on a trip ⇒ I also go on a trip
supper market ⇒ super market

Hi Appoh,
I didn't know about "Sharp". Yes, there are a lot of Japanese-English terms among staitonaries and it's interesting. Uhhh, nothing more sprung to mind... "Cello tape" is a shortened form of cellophane tape, I guess. 」

As I mentioned, I have another fetish. Maybe I can say it's my fetish, or it's simply my favourite. Anyway, I love teddy bears. When I find my type of them, I can't pass over them. Again when I went to the UK, I found one which was really my type at the airport, and I felt that he told me to take him with me to Japan. Definitely I did.;-)

Hi Nao,
I also like post cards. I sometimes buy two the same cards, one for my collection and the other for sending to my friends.:-)

Hi Anne,
Are you going to Shikoku? It seems to be hot there. Please take care and have a good time!

Bye for now,

Maki

Hi David and everyone,

I read the interesting everyone's story with laughing and nodding.
All of them are really enjoyable.

I want to write about pencil, after I read David's story of stationery.
I loved mechanic pencil and I was a fan of them more than 15 years, when I was studying English. It was good tool for writing a notebook.
Although, the other day I watched one the showing on TV, that the elements of pencil's core is soft like a writhing-brush(毛筆), mechanic pencil's core is make harder than pencil's core.
and so, I was trying to which is better for me.
I noticed pencil is good. (I have stiff shoulders.)
So I changed in my mind, I love pencil now.

About my fetish, I have a strange fetish, I love most of fruit, so I eat some fruit every day, and they must have fresh one.
I stand not to eat meat and fish, but I can't stand to eat fresh fruit almost every day.(肉や魚は食べなくても我慢できるが、果物を食べないのは我慢できない。と書きたいのですが・・・)
If I can't eat them, and so I feel exhausted.
Fortunately, in my area, there are some fruit produce each season, so I can buy them at reasonable price, and also some import fruit are selling in the market every season.
I always think 'I am a strange!'.
This is my story.

Hi Anne, Have a safe trip!

eeko

Hi David and everyone,
How was your day? I had a crazy day today. I went to my son's junior high school in the morning because there was a parent-teacher-student meeting today, and after that, I went to my sister's house and taught my niece English.(She is a second grade junior high school student.) And then I took my daughter to hospital in the afternoon. The doctor gave her the all-clear at last! I thought he would give it to her last Saturday, but he didn't. Anyway, I don't need to go to hospital anymore, and my daughter can play in the pool at kindergarten on Friday, so we are very happy!

Hi Kazu,
I've never tried rice cake with soy sauce and mayonnaise, but I have tried some pieces of pizza topped with rice cake, dried seaweed, and mayonnaise at a Italian restaurant before, and it was good.

Hi amo,
That's OK. I can see your comments on every topic, and that makes me happy;-)
By the way, if you want to feel happy, please come to my house anytime. There are a lot of shoes you can work on!(笑)

Hi Nao and Green,
When I read your comments about "Johnny's", I thought you two were talking about Johnny Depp, but it was ジャニーズ, right?(Anne, were you talking about ジャニーズ, too?)
One of my nieces loves Johnny's, too, and she is a fan of Tomohisa Yamashita(山P).

Hi Anne,
Actually, I had the same image for the Japanese word ‘フェチ’ before, but my image has changed a little. As you said, I often hear the word in my daily life as in ‘~フェチ’, and I sometimes use it. For example, my oldest sister loves shoes, and she keeps buying new shoes, so I say that she is a ‘靴フェチ’. As you know, in Japanese, it means she is a shoes lover, but I think there might be a difference between the English word 'fetish' and the Japanese word ‘フェチ’. To tell the truth, I learned the word 'fetish' in this entry.
By the way, I'd love to meet your brother!(笑) I understand the student's feelings very well. Watching a teacher who has very beautiful fingers writing something on the blackboard, that sounds lovely!
Anyway, I hope you have a great time in Shikoku. 気を付けて行って来て下さい^^

See you all soon,

Tomo

eeko

Hi all,

Tomo, I'm sorry for the delay in responding to your message. Making a preliminary inspection is very important to get unicorn beetles. We have got 4 unicorn beetles in one night. Actually, my eldest son was very excited because we saw 8 or more unicorn beetles around the place. In a perspective of education, I suggested that he does not catch beetles indiscriminately.

Appoh,
>I bought a date book of this year last week.

Wow, Are you sure?

>I had difficulties finding it.

Ah, I see. I guess that one of the reason why we feel tough to find out the best suit date book is that there are many kind of date books in book stores. for instance, very famous person, e.g. Sigesato Itoi, produces a date book and also, PRESIDENT introduces best buy(must buy) date books.
Date book is slightly expensive.

I suppose that portability is very important but the one that is having portability does not have enough free space to write memorandum. That is, we want to kill two or three or four or more birds with one stone but we can't.

Anyway, KOKUYO, one of top maker of stationery in Japan, provides notebooks with rich holder in November, 2008. Have you ever seen them? I guess that is cool. I remember that there were kind of movement to use A4 notebooks for taking memo.

# Palm is a kind of stationery, isn't it? ;-)
# I have seen many executives in California. They used to (;_;) have these digital gadgets.

Yoshi-

Hi Tomo,

Yes.I talked about ジャニーズ.I think many kinds of cool guys:)I just see them on TV but I feel good(笑)

Nao

Hi Tomo!
Yes! I wrote about Johnny's, too!
Your niece likes Johnny's, dosen't she.
My daughter and I are going to go Kyosera Dome in Osaka next week for Kanjani∞ concert!!(We live in Tokyo.)
My handle name is from one of Kanjani∞ menber's personal color.

Green

Correction again, in my comment.

Hi Green,

You will go to the concert, won't you!How I envy you!!I live in Osaka but I can't go..
The person with green color is so cool.He is an
attractive man,I think.
Have a good time:)

Nao

Hi eeko,

I checked the word.I found that each word has different nuance.
stand→(ひるまず)耐える
endure→(長い間忍耐強く)耐える
bear→(苦痛・悲しみなどに)耐える
tolerate→(大目にみて)耐える
It is difficult for me to use suitable word.
I'm sorry that I can't answer.

Nao

Hi Maki,
You love teddy bears? Me, too! A teddy bear is sitting in a hallway at the entrance of my house to greet visitors. It's not made by a famous teddy bear company, but I like him;-)

Hi Nao and Green,
You guys seem to be a big fan of Johnny's. I have to admit that it's getting difficult for me to tell who is who these days(Am I getting old?? Well, I think I am..), but I like Aiba-kun because he has a cute smile:)
Green, have a lot of fun at the concert!

Hi eeko,
『肉や魚は食べなくても我慢できるが、果物を食べないのは我慢できない』
I would say..

I can live without eating meat or fish, but I can not live without eating fruit.

Naoの言う通り、『我慢する』の英訳はたくさんありますが、ちょっと視点を変えて書いてみました^^(注:これが自然な英訳かどうかは I'm not sure. です)

Tomo

Hi eeko and Tomo,
I would say:
I would be OK without meat and fish but I would go crazy if I didn't have any fruit even in a second.

My ridiculous belief - that English hates negative forms- flies in the face of all your attempts.

The following sentences are my tries.

(1) I can go without fish or meat, but fruit is indispensable for my meals.
(2) It is fresh fruit that is indispensable in my daily life, although I can do without any fish or meat.
(3) Fruit is essential to me, I can make do without fish or meat though.

Mie

Wow!
Thank you all of you, Nao,Tomo, Appoh, Mie!
I'm very glad to have a lot of good team members.

言え無い時は視点を変える、そうだ、そうだった、それが出来るようになると、少しはスムーズに書けるようになるかな?
とっても良い体験になりました。もちろん、皆さんが書いてくださった文、全部わたしのノートにメモします。ありがとう!

Hi eeko,
どういたしまして。こちらこそいい練習になりましたよ。おほほ。
私は刺身無しでは生きていけません!ははは。

Hi Appoh,
そうなんですか?お刺身ですか、瀬戸内の鞆あたり、鯛の生き作りなど、おいしいお魚満載ですよ、いつかお越しくださいませ!
Good night!

Hi all,

I had forgotten to say about what I am crazy for. I love digital gadgets because these items let me feel technologies.

Tomo,
>have you seen a beetle larva?

Yes, I have.

Hi Mie,
I see. I found out that your idea is very useful for me.
I will make my sentences 'positive forms' now on.
Thank you for your advice.

Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to everything. Do you have any recommendations for beginner blog writers? I'd really appreciate it.

I like the valuable information you provide in your articles. I’ll bookmark your blog and check again here frequently. I am quite certain I’ll learn many new stuff right here! Best of luck for the next!
