Hokkaido Pictures
Hi team,
I have been very busy this week because classes started again yesterday. It's very difficult to get back into a work routine after such a long holiday! Nao emailed me, and we are going to start the experiment in a couple of weeks. I'll explain more about that in the near future.
Amo - I am still planning to do some corrections of comments, but I need a week or two to get organized first, so please bear with me. (←a useful phrase)
Here is one of the pictures I took in Hokkaido. If you click on this, you can see some of the others on my Flickr page. I don't know why, but some of the ones I tried to upload didn't arrive, so there are not very many. As usual, the pictures are mostly of my favourite places in Hokkaido. This one is of Kussharoko. It was taken from Bihoro Toge. Have a great weekend, and I will be back again on Monday.

Hi David,
Nice photos! I didn't realize you were a good photographer too. I like the one of the sunset. The color is amazing. Is your camera SLR? I’ve wanted DSLR for long time because I love the view through the viewfinder and the whole feeling of it. I’m using regular point and shoot camera now and it does a great job but I just can’t get the depth in my photos. Anyway, your pictures made me feel like going out and shoot the nature! I’m going to Yanchep National Park tomorrow and take lots of pix :D
Have a nice weekend everyone.

Hi David,
I had a look at all the pictures you have uploaded on your Flickr page. I love 'Kussharoko (1)' and 'Shiretoko Sunset'. The color of the sky and the water is so pretty! I've never seen such a beautiful sunset. I also like the picture of Tetsu. He has such lovely eyes, and I'd love to touch his nose!(Do you remember one of my strange fetishes?(lol))
Anyway, thanks for sharing the lovely photos. I'm looking forward to hearing the detail of the experiment!
Hi Nao,
Yes, you are right. It's also difficult to read years or numbers in English. As for your question about how to read '1999', '2000', and '2001', I agree with your idea about the first two. As for '2001', I think it can be read as "twenty oh(=zero) one", but I think it's more common to say "two thousand (and) one". Hmm, I'm not sure about this..
What do you think, team? How do you read these ones?
・2001
・2010 (two thousand ten? twenty ten?)
Have a great weekend, and see you all soon.
Tomo
PS David - I new the word 'bear', but I didn't know how to use it. "Please bear with me", OK;-)
PPS Michell - Are you going to Yanchep National Park tomorrow? Have fun!

Hi David,
I understand why you are already missing Hokkaido after seeing all the photos on your Flickr page.
Well, it's difficult to choose one, but my favorite among them are "Kushiro sunset" and "Shiretoko sunset". These amazingly beautiful red! I'm jealous of you! The photo of "Mashuko" reminds me of the day when I visited there, but it's a loooong time ago.
You also enjoyed the views of waterfall, didn't you?
Good for you!
Hi Gussan,
Long time no see! How have you been? Are you having busy days?
I know his blog, but I haven't visited there for more than 6 months, so it's 'another Anne'. I read her comment and his blog after reading your comment, and I was surprised that her tone of sentence is similar to that of mine, but I don't use "(笑い)”when I write comments in Japanese.
Anyway, it's nice to see your comment here.
Hi Nao and Tomo,
Reading big numbers and years is very confusing, isn't it?
OK, I would say...
2001---two thousand one
2010---two thousand ten
1952---nineteen, fifty-two(おまけ)
Hi Michell,
Have a lovely time at Yanchep National Park!
I went to the dentist today because I had a loose filling last night, and I could somehow get the appointment in, so it's okay now.
Have a great weekend,
Anne

Hi David!
I looked your pictures.
All of them are very beautiful and fantastic!
I like Kussharoko(1)(2)(3) of all others.
Hi Nao!
Good luck on the volunteer work!
Have a nice weekend everyone!
Do you have any plane for Silverweek?

Hi David
Your comment made me relief, as I mentioned earlier I really rely on your corrections. Glad to hear that you keep on doing it. Don’t worry. I can wait another week or two, so take your time to get organized. I took a look at your pictures, and I can’t choose the best shot, because all of them are beautiful. Your pictures tell me that Hokkaido is blessed with the bounties of nature. I really should go there someday.
Hi Gussan
I know his blog and I check it from time to time, but these days I haven’t, so I have checked it after reading your comment. I found “Anne’s comment” too, and thought the same as you.
Hi Anne
You have checked his blog too? You thought her comment was similar to yours?
I also thought her way of writing were really like yours.
Hi Tomo and Nao
About how to read big numbers, my answer is the same as Anne.
Hi Michelle
Have you had a good time at Yanchep National Park and taken a lot of pictures?
I hope you would.
Hi Green and everyone
I did not take a summer vacation this year, so I was looking forward to this long weekend, I don’t have any plan though. I just want relax. How about you, do you have any plan?

Hi David,
Thank you for sharing the photos from your trip! They are really beautiful and I like "Kussharoko(1)" the best. I might have seen the rainbow on the same day here in Tomakomai.:-)
Hi Tomo & Nao,
As for reading big numbers, my answer is also the same as Anne.
Hi Kazu,
I'm wondering how you are doing after your trip. Hope everything is going well with you and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.;-)
Hi Everyone,
I'm going out of the town from tomorrow, so I'll talk to you on Thursday.
Have a lovely long weekend!

Hi everyone,
How's your silver week?
I visited family grave today.
Hi Kazu,
Nice to hear from you! You seemed to have a great time in Guam , and that's nice.
Hi Green,
Did you enjoy the concert and the play?
少し訂正;
These amazingly beautiful red!→This red color of the sky is amazingly beautiful.
* Actually, after I wrote comment, I noticed David's former correction. David told us " in English, you always need a subject and a verb...", so I tried to write with full correct syntax.
But to be honest, I'm still not satisfied with it. I don't think I could convey fully what I felt.
I'm wondering how I can express 「もーあの赤の美しさと言ったら!」in English.
Do you have any ideas?
Speak to you soon,
Anne

Hi Ann,
Usually I'm very busy becasue I have to be out of my house for 12 hours a day at least every week day. Besides, I'm a typical guy who is no good at chatting.
However, now I have some holidays. So, I can post my comment.
Your question as below:
> I'm wondering how I can express 「もーあの赤の美
> しさと言ったら!」in English.
is almost impossible to translate in English, becasue your thought following 'もーあの赤の美しさと言ったら!' is neccesary to make an exclamentory sentence, I'm afraind.
I mean it may be '言葉にならない', '例えようがない' or 'それに勝るものない' etc...
We can guess many options, right?
See ya,
- Gussan

Hi Anne, amo, and Maki,
Thanks for your help! As for '2010', my idea was 'twenty ten' like the year '1952' Anne mentioned because I thought it was easier to say, but 'two thousand ten' may be more common. Hmm, it's tricky, isn't it?
Hi Green,
I hope you had a great time at both the play and the concert!
Hi Kazu,
Glad to hear you had a great time in Guam! I visited your blog and checked the pictures and the videos;-)
Hi Anne and Gussan,
As for the question, I came up with the same idea as Gussan. 「もーあの赤の美しさと言ったら!」→「何て綺麗な色(夕焼け)!」 How about this?
・What a beautiful sunset! The color is amazing!
・The color is amazing! I've never seen such a beautiful sunset!
・The color of the sky is amazingly beautiful!
In this case, you are talking about a sunset, and everyone knows the color of it, so maybe you don't need to say 'red', I guess.
Enjoy your Silver Week holiday, everyone!

Hi Gussan and Tomo,
Thank you for your ideas.
Maybe I stick too much to Japanese, and need to rephrase when I write sentences in English, but sometimes it's frustrating because I can't express what I really want to say.
By the way, I understand the color of the sunset is thought to be"red", but I wanted to focus on "this red" not the sunset. "This red" captivated my heart!
>Gussan,
You seem to be a typical business man; working from early in the morning to late at night!
Looking forward to hearing from you again.
Enjoy the rest of the holiday!
PS. I had "Ohagi"today^^)

Hi everyone
Thank you for your answering!
It helps me very much.
I could learn a new thing.

PS
Tomo, thank you for asking the team!

Oh, I just forgot to write this one. LOL
What do you think, team? How do you read these ones?
・2001
・2010 (two thousand ten? twenty ten?)
I would say,
2001 = two hundred one or just simple two thousand one, or two thousand and one.
2010 = twenty ten
