Health and Safety
Hi Team,
Thanks for your comments. I hope you all had a good weekend.
As I mentioned in my last comment, I had some ideas last night while I was running for our seminar in May or June. The most difficult thing for me is knowing what level of learner to pitch it at. If I decide to do seminars as a business in the future, each one will be aimed at a particular level, but for the blog seminar, I guess there will be quite a mixture, so I have to try to cater for everybody.
My basic plan is to split the day into three parts. We will start off with "An Orientation to Language Learning" in the morning, and then do a session on how to get the maximum benefit out of this blog. In the afternoon, I want to just focus on "How to Learn English Vocabulary," because I think this is an important topic for everyone from beginner to advanced. What do you think?
Let me tell you about this week's theme. Sometime last year we talked about the fact that everyone these days is so worried about the safety of children that they are losing many opportunities to learn about common sense. In the U.K., there is a government department called "Health and Safety," and it is their job to come up with laws to protect people. Sometimes, newspapers attack them for coming up with stupid rules, but as you will see if you read the article I have linked to, these accusations are not always true. One of the most famous stories is about the game of "conkers." This is a very British game that involves making a hole in a chestnut and putting a piece of string through it. You then try to break someone else's conker by flicking your conker at it. Have a look at this video.
Anyway, it was reported in the press a couple of years ago that "Health and Safety" had decided that children should wear safety goggles when they play this game. Many people got really angry about this, and the presenters of a popular TV show about cars called "Top Gear" decided to make fun of it by having a very large-scale game of conkers with caravans!
(By the way, a "loony" is a crazy person.)
Anyway, I found an interesting article the other day discussing the problems faced by people who have to make laws about Health and Safety. I think a lot of the issues it discusses apply to Japan just as much as they do to the UK, so I was wondering what you thought.

Look forward to hearing your comments.
PS I'm going to Osaka tonight to get the ferry to Miyazaki. I'm going there to meet a representative from a bookshop who I will be doing business with next year, so I decided to go by bike and make a holiday out of it. I'm taking my computer, so I'll write some comments while I'm there. I'll be back on Thursday.
Hope you

Hi David and everyone,
Today’s entry is “Wow!” (I just imitated Susan Boyle. She said so when she was asked about her impression about Japan in the NHK program on New Year’s Eve.) I need a couple of days to read, watch videos and think of this theme; however it sounds worth doing so.
Hi Maki and Anne,
Thanks for information of Skype. As for a camera and a microphone, does it look like an eyeball? I’m looking forward to finding them at an electric store. Also, I’m happy to share that feeling with both of you. Once I start tidying up things, I always find them interesting and still important for me and end up putting them back. I want to change it this year.
Hi Tomo,
I also hope Teru shows his real abilities in the best condition in the exams.
Hi Appoh,
I also say 2,000 and 10. As for 19XX, 19 and XX, right? By the way, I’ve dropped by your blog today. You did a great job while doing the laundry;p. You said “無駄に賑やか” about the neon boards in Las Vegas. That’s funny! I’d never seen the photos of Grand Canyon and Monument Valley with snow. That’s nice! Upper Antelope Canyon is real wonder. Your photos are taken as well as the ones by professionals that I’ve googled and seen. If I choose the best of yours, it would be the one taken in Monument Valley at night. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Gussan,
I'm not athlete at all but I’ve joined in 10Km and 5Km road races. I enjoyed the period of training but the real races were always hard and painful. Even so, I’ve never ever forget that nice feeling after finishing the goal. I like watching the Hakone road relay race on TV on Jan. 2 & 3 every year. I wish I could join a short run once. Like David and Anne, I was inspired by your comment after the race. Thanks for that.
Hi Blue, Yumi and Yuzu,
Welcome here! It’s nice to talk with you.

Hi David and everyone,
I had just a look at both of the videos and read the article. Conkers reminds me of the game"gaming top"(koma).
And the word "loony" reminds me of an English footballer, but actually his name is "Rooney" !
Second video is "crazy" and funny, isn't it?
I'll post about this week's theme later.
Bye for now,

Hi David
I think your plan of seminar is nice, because as you mentioned there will be a quite mixture so I was wondering how you were going to deal with it.
I am really looking forward to it.
Today was the first day of work this year. It was a busy day as I imagined, so I am a bit tired. I watched the videos, but I have no energy to read the article. I will read it later and write another comment of it.
See you soon.
P. S.
Hope your business trip to Miyazaki goes well and have fun the rest of days there.

Hi David and everyone,
(I’m going to get off the track. So, those who are busy or tired, please skip this comment.)
My husband worked without Year End & New Year Holidays at a group home where old people who suffer from dementia disease or 認知症stay. By the way, yesterday after work, he joined his high school reunion. First session was held at school in the afternoon which he missed. 60 over graduates gathered and their ex-teachers taught some lesson. Also, they took a test concerning their school days. Some organizer had prepared 5 pages of test paper with an answer sheet. There are 80 questions. Let me share some of them with you.
1) What time did the bell ring for starting class? (8:10, 8:15, 8:20)
2) Who was the tallest and most beautiful buss-tour-guide for school trip or 修学旅行? (Miss A, Miss B, Miss C)
3) What did XXX-sensei always bring in class? (deer leg, すりこぎ、孫の手)
4) What did principal XXX use as a container for chalk? (Vicks-can, 龍角散-can, tupperware)
5) What’s the name of the book shop in the nearest railway station? (A, B, C)
6) When XXX-sensei got angry in the music-class, what did he make a couple of students eat? (chalk, shoes, floor cloth)
7) On St. Valentine’s Day, how many chocolate did XXX-kun get? (53, 33, 43)
8) In the summer-camping, who played a strip show in the tent and made XXX-sensei get mad? (A, B, C)
9) When XXX-kun was sitting in a train and looking out of the window and said “うわっ、汚な!Oops, it’s dirty!” Unluckily, a school girl sitting opposite him who had put on her makeup heard his words and took it wrong as he talked about her makeup and said to him, “おまえ、誰に言うとんねん! Who are you talking to?” and chased him until XXX station and kept making complaints against him. What girls’ high school did she go to? (A, B, C)
Who remembers the name of bus tour guides?! He forgot her name, but he told me nostalgically, “She was ours!” (I saw a dictionary many times today against my resolution.)

Hi David and everyone,
David, your basic plan for the seminar sounds interesting. I'd like to hear how to get the maximum benefit out of this blog from the other participants, and I'm interested in the topic "How to Learn English Vocabulary" because it's difficult for me. As you said, it's an important topic for everyone from beginner to advanced, so it will be useful for all of us, but if you need our feedback so that you can decide whether you could do it as a business or not, it might be a good idea to do a similar seminar to the one you are planning in the future. I think you can get feedback from different levels of learners. Anyway, it's just an idea. I'm looking forward to taking your class for the first time in two years!
Hi Gussan,
Thanks for your reply. Are you going back to work tomorrow? I hope you have a good start!
Hi Tsuneko,
Thank you! I will show him your message tomorrow;-)
I watched the videos, but I haven't read the article yet, so I'll write about the topic later.

Hi David and everyone
I wached the youtube video and I'm writing about safety of children.
I think it is good to wear goggels when children play conkers.
I felt conkers is danger and worry if the chestnuts hit the children's eyes or not.
If my daughter wanted to play conkers when she was child I want to make her wear goggles.
(chestnutが、子どもたちの眼に当たらないか心配。もし、娘が、子どものころに、conkersをやりたがったら、ゴーグルを付けさせたい。 と書きたかったのです。どなたか、正しい文を教えてください。)
Many problem about children of safety are in Japan .
Especially about bike.
For example 3people ride on 1bike and so on・・・

Hi David and everyone
A Happy New Year 2010!
I hope you all have a good year.
(This is my first comment in this year. I was torn to write a comment between on previous entry and on current one.)
Your plan of seminar is nice. It will be good test of seminars you hold after that. Personally, I am eager to know how to learn English Vocabulary.
I watched the movies. The movie of "Top Gear" is very funny. I like such a thing. "Loony" reminds me "Rooney", too.
I read the article you linked. I think "Health and Safety" lack a viewpoints. Protecting children is very important, and it needs some restricts to protect them. But people like "Health and Safety" may not discuss enough about the probabilities that the restricts rip out some benefits or opportunities for children.
I think that children need to experience some dangerous situations and learn about risks with pain.
But, maybe I think like that because I have no child.
By the way, conker reminds me such a game I played when I was child. We use "mud dumpling(泥団子)" instead.
A defensive put his/her dumpling on a ground and an offensive drop his/her dumpling on the defensive's one. If you crash the opponent's, you are winner.
Of course, we don't use a goggles or any protector. There was no fear of injury.
Hi Yumi and Yuzu
Nice to meet you! Let's enjoy studying English :-)

Hi everyone,
I'm just leaving Osaka on the ferry to Miyazaki. I was planning to leave last night, but it took longer to get to Osaka than I thought, and I missed the ferry. I stayed in a hotel in Osaka last night, and I went for a ride around Nara today (deer everywhere!) I have never driven around Osaka before, but I think it is safe to say that it has more traffic lights than any other city I have visited in my life. Not only that, but they stay red for ages and ages! Anyway, I'm hoping that Kyushu will be more relaxing. Bye for now.

Hi David and everyone,
Happy New Year! My resolution of 2010 is improve of my strength.
今年もよろしくお願いします。
David, the most difficult thing for you is knowing what level of learner to pitch it at? My main worry about the seminar is it! If the seminar is for high level learner, I will not join it because I will not be able to keep up. But if it is for low or medium level learner like me, high level learners will be bored. As you say, it is very difficult to hold the seminar for various level learner. I hope you cater for everybody. I'm interested in "How to learn English vocabulary" and I want to learn it.
By the way, I watched both of the videos. I didn't know the game "conkers". The second video is so funny. I looked in the article, but I gave up to read it because it was too long and written in English!(当たり前だけど^^;)
Hi Nao,
I hope you have a wonderfulu time in Guam.

Hi David and everyone,
As for this week’s entry, your ideas are nice and nice and interesting. Also, thank you for trying to cater for everybody. Well, it seems as if Conker is not easy to play because 5 people on the video missed. I roughly got how to play the game. Were you a good player? If I use various colored strings, it would be lovely for ornaments, too. As for the article, I tried to read it today, however it is too small and too long and too difficult to finish all. I’m sorry but I can’t keep reading it any more. I hope you have a good discussion with a future business partner and spend your holidays in Kyushu.
Hi Green,
I understand what you said and think you wrote very well. Maybe, I would say, "If she were a child, I would want her wear goggles when playing conkers."

Hi David and Everyone,
I've just watched the videos, but I still haven't read the article and I need more time to write about the topic.
David, your basic plan sounds really interesting. I wondered how you would organize the seminar for various level learners. I'm really interested in "How to Learn English Vocabulary", because it's one of my weak points and it's an important topic for everyone, as you mentioned. I like Tomo's idea as well, but it might be better to take your basic plan for this time.
BTW, they stay red for ages and ages in Nara?! You usually drive in Nagoya area and sometimes in Hokkaido, so that you might feel so. The first and second worst areas for the number of traffic accidents are Aichi and Hokkaido every year!;-)
Hi tsuneko,
It's a good idea to try the test. Your husband and people who joined the reunion had a lot of fun with the questions, I guess. Thanks for sharing the story!

Sorry to hear you missed the ferry, but it's great to see your comment from Osaka;-) Hope you have a nice ride in Kyushu!
Hi Tsuneko,
I also enjoyed your husband's high school reunion story. That's a nice and funny test!
Hi Green,
<子どもたちの眼に当たらないか心配。もし、娘が、子どものころに、conkersをやりたがったら、ゴーグルを付けさせたい。
Here's my version.(Greenの文章をちょっと変えて作ってみました)
I think it is a good idea to wear goggles when children play that game because they might hit their eyes with their conkers. If my daughter had tried to play conkers when she was a child, I would have made her wear goggles.
Hi trmr and everyone,
<I think that children need to experience some dangerous situations and learn about risks with pain.
I have three children, but I agree with you. If children haven't experienced any injury, they'll never know the pain. It also means that they'll never understand other people's pain. As a mother, I don't want my children to get hurt both in mentally and physically, but every experience helps them to grow and make their own judgements, so I'm trying not to overprotect them. It's sometimes really tough for me, though!
I managed to read the article, but 今日はもう英語脳が動かないのでまたあとでトライします(If I can!)

Hi David and everyone,
David, did you leave Osaka last night?
I was thinking to ask,” How’s the weather in Miyazaki?" So, you said,” Hello" to deer everywhere yesterday?
Anyway, you are accustomed to Aichi way!
I hope your safe trip and Kyushu will be more relaxing for you.
Your idea about seminar sounds interesting. I think all the parts you mentioned cater for everybody because we can share ideas with each other. I'm looking forward to taking your lessons.
Actually as for business seminars, participants who take your lessons would range different levels even though they are focused on business, so I hope our feedback after the lessons would be helpful for your future seminars.
Hi Green,
I would say.....
It's a controversial topic and a difficult decision whether or not let children
wear goggles, but
if my daughter were a child , I would tell her to wear goggles when playing conkers because I don't want to see chestnuts hurt her eyes.
自信はありませんが、とにかく考えてみました。。。

Hi David & everyone!
It's blue.
I think the basic plan of the seminar would be good.
Every English learner of all the levels could enjoy the seminar. As for me, I'd like to know how to learn the phrase rather than vocabulary. I can tell what I'm thinking about in English, and most native speakers understand me, but that's not the way they speak. It's sometimes frustrating.
By the way, I read the article David referred. As David said, it surely is true also in Japan to strengthen the regulation. But the public organizations have not regulated children how to play, I think. In Japan, parents control their children. It's true of me. When I think of safety, I cannot help anticipating the risk, and I tell my kids not to do this and that. Even though I might control them, I keep in my mind to fulfill their dreams and not to discourage their willingness to do the new experience. I'd like to make kids independent. It's very hard, though.

Hi team,
I'm in Kagoshima now. It's a very nice place, but I'm not sure if I would like to live quite so close to an active volcano! I had a meeting in Miyazaki this morning, and then I rode down the coast to a place called Toi Misaki. Kyushu is really beautiful, but it's a bit strange because the scenery looks like Thailand or Malaysia (white sandy beaches, turquoise ocean, palm trees, etc.) but it's freezing cold! I rode most of today with the BMW's heated grips turned up to maximum because my hands were so cold. I'm definitely going to come back here in the summer, though.
Tomorrow, I'm going to ride inland and take a look at the mountains, and then I'm catching the ferry back to Osaka tomorrow night. It arrives in Osaka at 8.30 the next morning, and I'm teaching at 2 p.m., so I'm going to have to get a move on.
See you tomorrow.

Hi Green,
Yes, I know both the singers and watched the program. Please have a look at one of old entries "Susan Boyle" on April 17 last year. At that time, everybody in the world said "Wow!";p I watched several videos and my favorite was the one with the caption in 名古屋弁, such as "どえりゃあ~ファンタスティック!" Did you see her eating some sandwitches in the waiting room before singing at the beginning of the video? She's funny and charming! Connie also has a nice voice.
I like thinking of how to write in English together, like this time. We can share various ideas like Tomo's and Anne's that's nice.

Hi David,
You are having a nice trip in Kyushu! I like Kyushu too. People are friendly and foods are good. I've travelled with my friends for two weeks from the north in Kyushu to the southest, Cape Sata or 佐多岬 in Miyazaki. We walked and walked almost all the time and stayed at night in a tent. It was end of March but it snowed in the mountains. When we were walking the beach in Miyazaki, I remember there were lots of coconut trees. Have a fun tomorrow too!

Hi David and everyone,
Thank you so much for your warm reception! I was very glad to read those messages:)
David, I think your ideas for the seminar are brilliant so that everyone from different levels can join and enjoy the seminar!
I watched the videos you posted but the article is quite long so I haven't read it all, but I'm just going to write my opinion a bit for now. I think the safety of children is important, but I feel like there should be a limit to prevent children from being overprotected. I think considering too much about their safety makes them shut from many opportunities and important lessons they should take through everyday lives. Though, I think this is a pretty difficult topic, because some parents today really worry about their children's safety and I could be the one if I had a child or children, too.
Anyway, the video of caravan conkers was very funny;)
Hi Tsuneko,
The test your husband took is interesting! Was there anybody who got all correct?
David, I'm really happy to hear that you had a nice day in Kagoshima! I hope you will enjoy the rest of the trip tomorrow, too!

It sounds like your schedule is really tight. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your trip!;-)
I barely finished reading the article, however I'm not sure whether I understand its details properly. Maybe I need to reread it.
As for wearing safety goggles, it isn't easy to say children should wear them or not. I'm wondering where we should set a boundary between safety and danger. I agree with trmr and Tomo, and also I understand it's sometimes really tough for parents not to overprotect their children, as Tomo said.
Talk to you later,

You already received some comments from tsuneko, Tomo and Anne. I also make a sentence (of course I have no confidence with my sentence though), anyway here is my version.
“If my daughter was still a child and wanted to play conkers I would make her wear the goggles. I do not want her to get hurt.”

Hi David and everyone,
I printed out the article and read it again today.(It was tough!) When I read the first half of it, I was confused about what was true and what was not because there seemed to be a lot of tales or myths.
I sometimes get a notice from my son's school saying that some pupil met a stranger(fushinsha) on his/her way home or a stranger tried to grab his/her arm, or something like that. The number of those things is increasing these days, so children should be protected, but I was shocked to read this part in the article:
"Adults don't trust children not to make allegations against them; children are being taught that adults are not to be trusted."
Something is wrong with the society...
As I said, children need to be protected from dangerous situations or crime, but at the same time, they need to learn to make their own judgments as they experience themselves.
I'm too sleepy to write any more..
Good night,
Tomo
PS Green, thanks for your comment! Maybe I should buy some special sweets for him;-)

Hi Nao,
I’m sorry I’m also late to tell you, “Have lots of fun with your friends in GUAM and speaking as many people as possible in your “Heart English” that's nice!”
Hi Yuzu,
Thank you for reading my story and asking! The correct answers were announced during the 2’nd session in the evening that my husband attended. One of students got the highest score as 51 out of 80 marks and one of five teachers who used to be the principal got the lowest one as 10 marks. Both of them did a great job, I think. He must have a great memory and had had good relationships with other mates during the school days. Also, principals usually don’t have so many chances to communicate with students directly, so 10 marks were good enough.:p

Just add your age to your birth year if you were born in Showa.
I hope this will help you count.

Hi Appoh,
>Just add your age to your birth year if you were born in Showa.
That's the way I did because I was not born in Taisho or Heisei.^^) My way of asking was not good, was it!? I meant you might have known a good way of calculating whichever of period you were born.
I’ve googled and found the way.;P You have to remember the last two numbers of the starting year of each period, like this, 明治むな(67)しく、大正いい(11)くに、昭和にこ(25)にこ、平成ぱっぱー(88): Meiji started in 1867, Taisho in 1911, Showa in 1925 and Heisei in 1988.
When you need to change Japanese calendar to AD
Meiji 25 = 25 + 67 = 1892
Taisho 14 = 14 + 11 = 1925
Showa 7 = 7 + 25 = 1932
Heisei 11 = 11 + 88 = 1999
Vice Versa
>2010年、さて昭和にすると何年でしょうね?
2010 = 2010 – 1925 = Showa 85
2010 – 1867 = Meiji 143
2010 – 1922 = Taisho 78
2010 – 1988 = Heisei 22
I hope this way meets your original question.

When I saw both of video, I didn't think a meaning related to each video.
But, as time goes by I noticed the meaning related to each videos.
It was really ironically.
These video are funny.
This is not enough to answer but I just wanted to write something to this blog.

Hi Team,
I'm on the ferry back to Osaka. It gets in at 8.30 tomorrow morning.
Today, I rode up from Kagoshima to a place called Ebino Kougen. The scenery was wonderful, and there was a light sprinkling of snow on the mountains that looked just like icing sugar. I went to an onsen called Shiratori Onsen. It had a great view, and the inside bath was nice, but the rotenburo was not very warm. I asked the owner about it, and he said the temperature outside was -6, so it is difficult to keep the water warm. Actually, I spent most of the day feeling very cold. If it hadn't been for the heated jacket I bought when I was back in the UK and the heated grips on the BMW, I think I would have been in trouble.
Anyway, I have completely fallen in love with Kyushu, and I will be coming back as soon as it gets a bit warmer!
See you tomorrow.

Hi David,
It's nice to hear that you went to the onsen!
I haven't gone to onsen for a while, so I really miss it...
I'm looking forward to hearing you from Kyushu again when it gets warmer.
Hi Tsuneko,
Thank you for your reply!
Oh, that's great:)
I suppose his school days' memories are still very brilliant and impressive.
I agree completely that the principal did such a great job, too!
See you.

Hi David and everyone,
About this week’s topic, “health and safety” and “overreaction” seems to be thought as a set not only in England but also in Japan.
We often hear the news on TV once some accidents that a child gets hurt when he/she is playing in the playground, a council responsible for the playground bans using that play equipment in case children get hurt again.
Sadly it is true that we hear the new about terrible incidents that children are killed.
We need to protect them from those sad things , but still if we proceed to focus on protecting them overly, then how do they learn to face and manage risk?
It is really difficult to strike the balance between securing safety and experiencing autonomy and independence.
And one more thing I found in the article is that we need to have an eye to see things from different prospective. The press sometimes cuts off one aspect and spotlights it. I think one of the overreactions by officials is caused by those attitudes by the press.
PS,David, You seems to have a great time in Kyushu and I’m happy for you.

Hi Anne,
It's nice to know you had a lovely time with your parents. Your father is ninety. So, 2010-90=1920
Your father was born in 1920. I guess he was born in Taisho period. Taishoいい国、1920-1911=Taisho 9.
Your father was born in Taisho 9nen, right? Wish him a great health and happiness!
Thank you for your posting when you are supposed to get sleepy.;p

Thank you for your agreement.
It is important to understand other people's pain during childhood.
>I'm trying not to overprotect them. It's sometimes really tough for me, though!

Hi David and everyone
I finally managed to go to the gym tonight for the first time this year. It was nice. I hope I could go twice a week at least I want to go once a week.
I just finished reading the article, it was too long and difficult for me so I am not sure I could understand everything. Fortunately (Should I say unfortunately?) I do not have any children, so it is difficult for me to write a comment. All I can say is, if I had a child, I would not want to ruin his/her precious time learn by experience. I was trying to say(経験から学ぶ貴重な時間を奪うようなことはしたくない)難しいです。
I do not want to see the children get hurt, but …I really agree this part of the article:
“When everything comes with a health warning, you don't learn to manage risk”
And I totally agree this part: As a little experiment, I always ask my first-year students how they refer to themselves. Twenty years ago, they would consider themselves to be young men and women. Now they call themselves boys and girls. We are extending their childishness.
I am getting sleepy so bye for now.
P. S. David, glad to know you had a lot of fun in Kyushu.

- 2010年1月 8日 09:28
Hi Appoh,
Me neither.;p Thanks to your asking such a question, I started to like to calculate only that thing.
Hi David and everyone,
Thanks for other members’ comments that help me understand this week’s topic better. It seems as though there are quite many sexual abnormal people in the U.K. and apparently, the numbers of similar people has been increasing in Japan too as we know many news on TV or in newspaper. How can we protect children from them? I remember there always were such people in my home town in my childhood and they liked to come to school and talk to us; however we were not that scared. Time has changed and people have also changed, so this problem is very difficult to solve easily. I think what we grown-ups can do is always to mind this and try to talk them without ignoring. I watched some news that children were banned to play baseball in some parks in Japan because neighbors made complaints their voices were too noisy. They have to be quiet in the park. If they had good relationships each other, maybe, their voices would sound different for neighbors.

It sounds like you had a lovely time in Kyushu. "A light sprinkling of snow on the mountains that looked just like icing sugar", that must have been so pretty! I guess you are on the way back, riding up to Seto now. Hope you get back safely and make it in time for the class!

Hi tsuneko,
Thank you for your kind words and detailed explanations about calculating ages.
Actually, I read talks between you and Appoh about it but contents didn't soak in and only letters passed through over my head. I'm afraid I need to re-read again and again and ...to understand them!
And thanks for encouraging me to write some more comment ;-)
Hi everyone,
It's really difficult to discuss this week's topic, isn't it? Reading the article was also very challenging. Actually I tried to summarize them, but I gave up doing so,haha..
It was very nice and helpful for me to read your comments. Thanks!

Hi David,
Thank you for the funny videos.
This week's theme reminds me of "A cat in a micowave " story in the US.
When "Product Reliability Law" was being introduced in Japan, we used to hear this story and most people apparently believed it was true. It was used as an irony criticizing the new law following the Europe.
Since the law was in effect, instruction manuals changed. They've got to include a lot of warnings prior to actual explanations on how to use the products. I think they look a little bit weird as manuals.
I guess we know "balancing risk" is understandable but we also know "any risk" is not acceptable.
Anyway, what I told my sons not to do is only not to go fishing without me.
I'll post again if I come up with another comment.
