Thank you for your warm words and sharing your versions! Honestly say, I hesitated to post the comment, as I hadn't tried to translate before, you know. Anyway, it was a good practice for me.;-)
I totally forgot to translate example sentences and also grammatical words. Anne, my translations for 1-3 are the same as yours and I agree with Tomo's
for 4, though it sounds a little bit strange.
でも自然な日本語では、Anneの訳になると思います。日本語には2、4のような時制を区別する言い方はないのでは？と思うのですが、どうでしょう？

I agree with your idea.　区別するにはああいう風にするしかないと思うけど、自然な日本語だと２と４は同じになるんじゃないかと思う。（Anne、そういうつもりで書いていたならすみません・・！　いろんな時制を比べていたので今回は区別した方がいいかな･･と思って書きました。）　少なくとも私は普段の会話で「～だったようだった」なんて言わないし（笑）　英語の時制は難しいね～

Thanks for thinking about my questions.
While I was translating, I thought it was obviously easy to understand the tense and was clear in English but I was also wondering if you would try to translate these situations into Japanese, it was quite difficult and I was really interested in David's translation if he would add Japanese sentences to examples sentences.

今回は訳していて英語であれば状況、時制がすんなりはっきりするのに、これを分かりやすく、自然な日本語に訳そうと思うと難しいと思いました。なので、２．４は自分でも無理してると思いましたが、この違いを考えるためにそれぞれのDavidの文章ではなく、意識的に、同じ文章にして時制を変えて、皆さんに教えていただこうと思って書いてみました。あの、英語の時制を日本語で伝えるにはTomが言っていたような、その頃は、とか他の補足的な言葉がいるかな、とも思いました。Davidが新しい本で、Example　sentences　の下に訳をつけるのかどうか分かりませんが、もしつけられるとすれば、どのような訳になるのかということも、個人的には関心があります。
英語は英語のままで考える方が、ず～っと簡単ですね。

David, I bet you had a great time with your colleagues last night.
I went for a drink with some friends from work and some brought their boy friends and their friends too. It became a big group, to tell the truth, I do not like going for a drink with a lot of people, because I can not talk to everyone. Even though, I had a good time.

How is your weekend? Are you having fun?
I did not feel like going out, so I stayed home, did the household chores and watched three movies (“Paycheck”, “The one and only” and “A good woman”) on TV.

Thank you for a good translation. I wanted to try that too, but I was too tired to do that this week. It is a good study for us, so maybe I should do it sometimes.

As for your question, it is quite difficult to translate those kinds of sentences into Japanese. I agree with Maki’s idea, in Japanese, I do not think we distinguish No.2 from No.4.
I see what you mean it is easy to understand “English to English”. I am also interested whether he would put Japanese translation for each example in his new book or not. I am curious to know how he would translate into Japanese, too.

I just noticed a mistake that might help you to learn a new expression. (It it was just a typo, please ignore this.)

You said "Even though, I had a good time."

Not many Japanese people know this, but the correct way to say that is "Even so, I had a good time."

Hope that is helpful for you and everyone else as well.

Thank you. It was a mistake not a typo. As I mentioned before, I always mix up “Even”, “Even though” or something like that. I think I have seen “Even so” before, but I never used it. So thanks again.

Did you see the moon last night? It was beautiful. Speaking of moon, I learnt new phrase “once in a blue moon” a few weeks ago. What a coincidence! I heard this phrase when I was watching an American TV drama at the same day. David calls this “The new car phenomenon”. This kind of phenomenon happens to me sometimes. By the way, do you know the meaning of “once in a blue moon”? If not, here is an example.
“I usually drink coffee. Once in a blue moon I like to have a cup of tea.”

Yes, I saw the moon last night and I knew last night's moon was "blue moon" but I didn't know the expression "once in a blue moon." It's interesting.
Thank you for letting us know new expression!
I tried making a sentence:
＊When my children were small, they liked to have lunch at Mcdonald's but they have grown up so once in a blue moon I dropped in there .

As you said, when I come across the word again I remember , I feel very good and this makes me to use it next time. By the way,everyone, David explained about "the new car phenomenon" on June 12th 2006.

Does this sentence make sense?

Dec. while I was looking "once bitten twice shy" when I found it from a song "Last Christmas", but I've never encountered the real in books or on movies.
