ATMs and Manners (Feedback)
Hi team,
First of all, Happy Birthday Kazu! Hope you have a great day. (We have a lot of blog birthdays this month, don't we!)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about ATMs. It does seem to be the case that Japanese people have a lot of bank accounts, but that is probably because Japan has a lot of banks. In the UK, there are only a few big banks, and almost everyone has just one account with one of them. Internet banking is really big now, as well. I have an account with a bank in New Zealand (because I own a house over there), and I do all my transactions on the Internet. As I live in another country, it is really convenient, and I have never had any security problems with it.
I have decided that I am going to change my phone next week. I spent a long time in the docomo shop playing with the phone that I am interested in, and I really like it. I went to the au shop today, and they said that the best time to cancel my contract with them would be the first of the month, which is next Tuesday. My number is going to stay the same, but I will have to make a new email address. Actually, that's a good thing, because I have been getting lots of spam recently. I will make sure my new address is a bit more complicated.
Anyway, here is some feedback on this week's comments...

'ipad' started selling in Japan! I saw more than 40 people were standing in line early in the morning,4'clock! here in Nagoya on TV.
I can't understand even people who have reserved it were standing in line. Are you going to buy it?
(Believe it or not, I'm not that interested in the iPad. I don't really see the point in it. It's too big to carry around like a phone, and it can't do all the things my Macbook can do, so I can't really see what I would use it for. Of course, if anyone wants to buy one for me as a late birthday present, I will be more than happy to receive it ;-) )
This weekend, I'm going to another conference in Kyoto. I'm only doing one presentation this time, so it should be easier than last week. On Monday, I'm taking my van down to Hamamatsu to get the bed fitted, and on Tuesday, I'm going to get my new phone. After that, I will be busy doing the final checking of the new book. I hope to send it off for printing next Friday. It's going to be a busy week!
Have a great weekend.

If you type “ほし”, you can write ☆ or ★. If you type “まる” or "o", you can write circles(○, o, O).

I'm afraid the sign at the bank is just at the bank around my place?
By the way, I did "自主学習" with my friends last Saturday and it was my turn to prepare for it, so I used your book "Learning English Vocabulary." I prepared a kind of quiz same as you showed us at the seminar. It was interesting and was a good practice for members to rethink about learning vocabulary.
Next week seems to be another busy week for you, but you are going to get new phone and going to Hamamatsu. That sounds great.
Hope your conference will go well.

Hi David
I have a question. In your comment, you wrote "I'm not that interested in the iPad." What does "that" means? What is different from "I'm not interested in the iPad"?
"that" がないと単に「私はiPadには興味がありません。」で、"that"があると「私はiPadに興味がある類の人ではありません。」というニュアンスかとおもっています。

Hi trmr,
Regarding your question, I am not sure but can I share my understanding. This “that” means “not very” so here are the meanings of these two sentences;
I'm not interested in the iPad. (私はiPadに興味がありません。)
I'm not that interested in the iPad.(私はiPadにあまり(そんな)に興味がありません。)
For example;
a) Do you like chocolates?(チョコレート好き?)
b) I don’t like that much.(あんまり(そんなに)・・・)
否定文での"that"には否定を弱める役目があると思います。
lots of good luck!!

Hi David and everyone,
Yesterday was my son's and daughter's field day, so I went to their elementary school to see it. Actually, the field day was going to be held on Saturday, but it was put off to Sunday because of the rain. When I got up yesterday morning, it was still raining a little, so I was not sure if we would have the field day or not, but I made lunch for my kids because they had to go to school if they wouldn't have had the field day. Fortunately, the rain stopped soon and we were able to have the event. It was a bit cold and the ground was wet, so it was not a perfect day for a field day, but it was nice to see children trying their best.
David, I forgot to say thank you for your feedback, sorry. It's always helpful for us:) But I found a mistake in one of my sentences. "For those people who don't drive, it may not that easy", I forgot to put "be" after "not".
