George Rekers (Feedback)

Hi team,

The story about George Rekers was very strange. Basically, this is a man who has spent his life telling people how evil gays are, and trying to make life as difficult for gay people as possible. He has written books about it, given seminars, and appeared on TV. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people like him in America.

The story was, of course, that he was photographed at an airport coming back from a holiday he went on with a rent boy he met on a gay website! His explanation was that he just paid this young man to come with him to carry his luggage, but this is not what the man said. I don't know about you, but I (and most Americans) find that very difficult to believe!

As some of you realized, the word for people like this is "hypocrite." A hypocrite is a person who tells other people that they should not do something and then does it himself. A lot of religious people are hypocrites, as you will know if you have been following the news about Catholic priest abusing children.

Anyway, I am still busy preparing for the seminar tomorrow, so here is some quick feedback on this week's comments:

Hi David,

Thanks for your feedback!

I got it. I have to keep practicing so that my English won't get rusty;-)

Hi David and everyone,

David,thanks for your feedback.
>Prof Rekers has resigned from this organization.)
To tell the truth, I deleted "from" after writing. I looked up the word 'resign' in a dictionary because I wanted to make sure, and it said "resign office." (議員を辞める)so I deleted it. I got it.

>I often jump to conclusions.)→ I should be more careful when I write sentences!

Hi everyone,

明日のセミナーで皆さんにお目にかかれるのを楽しみにしてます。
さて、セミナー参加の報告、どんなレポートができるでしょうか^^)

Have a nice weekend,everyone!

Anne

Hi David,
Thank you for your feedback.
I like to watch foreign TV dramas, and I remember one episode about Catholic priest abusing children. Of course, it’s a drama so not a true story, but I have heard (seen) these kinds of stories.

Hi everyone,
Looking forward to meeting (seeing) you all at the seminar.

Good night and sleep tight,

amo

Hi David,

It’s really nice to see you in person today, I had a very good time, thank you so much!

Happy birthday to you,David!
To be honest,I don’t like my own birthday, because it just reminds me I’m getting older, but when I saw your happy and innocent smile,I thought maybe getting older is not so bad.

At last,I have to apologize to Gussan and Tsuneko that I might have given you both the wrong address,I thought I was okay at the party, but when I got home I was aware that how drunk I was today,I completely forgot that I had changed my phone to au recently,so if you can not reach me by the address I gave you, please let me know.

Have a good weekend,everyone!

Hi David

I am also sorry that I couldn't say it to you.

Hi Gussan,

I'm sooo sorry, could you please try again, just change docomo to ezweb, it should be okay then.
Thank you for the information , I will search it later.

Have a great day!

Hi David and all attending the seminer,
Congulatulations on your successful suminer and party.

Hi David,
Thank you for your feedback. "Nor I do like sumo."
The other day I bought your first book titled "英語と仲直りできる本”. I have'nt read it all yet, but that book reminds me of fundumental knowledge. Plus the information I have never known. I'm looking forward your new edition.

Hi team,

Thanks for the birthday messages. Unfortunately, I have spent the whole day working since I got back from Tokyo, and now I am going running, so it doesn't feel like a birthday. Never mind, I will just celebrate it next week.

Thanks to all of you who came to the seminar. It was a lot of fun :-) Of course, the highpoint was hearing Amica sing. It was actually a very weird coincidence: just by chance, we went to an Italian restaurant; just by chance, they had live music; just by chance, the keyboard player was a classical pianist; just by chance, she played O Sole Mio, which Amica knows how to sing!

I think the gods must have been smiling on us last night :-)

Anyway, I'm off for a run.

Speak to you tomorrow.

Hi David,
Thank you for the seminar. It was great and I will keep it mind and keep doing what you said.
Sorry to hear that you spent whole day working!! But we celebrated your birthday at the party and you are going to celebrate it next week, that’s nice.

Hi Amica,
Finally, I met you and heard your beautiful voice. As David mentioned, it was a weird coincidence, and I really thank that!!

Hi Anne, Maki, Lily, Tomo, and Gussan,
Nice seeing you again and all of you haven’t changed since last year.

Hi Ling, tsuneko and trmr,
I am really happy to see you both in person yesterday.
trmr, please say thank you to your girl friend. She is sweet ;-)

Sorry, but I am a bit tired today because I went out both of days of the weekend. I am off to bed.

Good night and sleep tight,
amo

Hi team,
I'm pleased to hear that you had a lot of fun in the seminar. I wished I had been there, too !
I look forward to seeing the details about the seminar not only on its entertainment side but also its ACADEMIC side.(笑)
Bye for now.

Hi David,

Happy birthday, and thank you very much for your feedback.

Hi everyone,

How was your seminar? How was your party?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you who attended the event.

Sam

Hi David,
Happy birthday!
I think you work way harder than Japanese middle-aged men.

Hi Tomo,
I assume you are feeling very well after the seminar was over successfully. You must have been doing a lot to arrange the seminar.
Please do it again when I return to Japan.(笑)

Hi David and Everyone,
I had a great time at the seminar and the party. The seminar was quite interesting. I think it will be received well by others who are willing to learn English by themselves. The party was a lot of fun! And yes, the highlight was hearing Amica sing. It was a wonderful coincidence.

I was so excited to meet Amica, Ling, trmr, and tsuneko for the first time.
trmr – You got a lovely girlfriend. Say hello to her for me.
It was great to see David, amo, Anne, Maki, Tomo, and Gussan again. It felt like seeing old friends. In a way, we are!

Thanks to all who came all the way to Tokyo for this event. I’m already looking forward to the next meeting. Next time, we might be coming to your town :-)

Hi David and everyone,

How are you doing today? Me? I'm doing fine though I had a bit of hangover yesterday(笑).

I had a lot of fun both at the seminar and the party. It was great to meet some new people in person at last, and it was also lovely to meet some old faces again! I want to say a big "thank you!" to David and you all!!

Women from ALC and Gakken and David's Japanese editor came to see the seminar. David did the seminar all in English, so I was a bit nervous at the beginning. I first thought that the 4-hour lesson might be a bit tough, but it was so interesting(and a lot of fun!) that I forgot the time. A lot of people brought some nice sweets for us, so we enjoyed them when we took a break.(even while we are taking the lesson 笑) Thank you to all of you who brought nice お土産!

Appoh asked us to talk about the ACADEMIC side(笑), so let me try.

As David explained before, we did two sessions. In the first, he gave us three topics(self introductions, describing a room(←the seminar room), How are you feeling now?), and we had to make three sentences that we are 100 % sure for each topic. He told us that you should focus on what you can say, not on what you want to say. He even said, “Suppose, if you made a mistake, you'd have to give me 2 million yen!”lol
He told us it is very important to pay attention to the language(expressions) you are meeting. For example, during the first session, he asked us, “ロビン・フッド知ってる?” in English, but he didn't use these expressions "Do you know...?" or "Have you heard of...?" Then, he asked us what expression he just used, but I couldn't remember. Actually, he said, "Are you familiar with Robin Hood?", but I'd never used that expression as in “~を知ってる?”. I usually use "Do you know...?" or "Have you heard of...?". I realized again that I should pay more attention to the language people are using. It's really difficult for me to do this when I'm talking with someone in English, though.
And then, we looked at ways for us to get the most benefit from taking part in this blog using old entries and comments. We read them and checked expressions or parts we noticed something like, "I'm not sure if this is correct or not", "I think this is wrong", or "This is new to me, and it can be a useful expression for me."

In the second, we did a crash course in the basic principles of learning English vocabulary. He gave us copies of the textbook "Learning English Vocabulary" that he wrote for university students, and we did some of the exercises on the book. He told us you need to learn high-frequency words first to improve your vocabulary, and you also need to learn their parts of speech, syllable patterns, and collocations to use English words correctly.

He said that "priming and triggering" was important in learning a language. I knew the word "prime", but I didn't know that "prime" can be a verb and has a meaning of "get ready".

Thanks David for your wonderful seminar. It was really interesting. And let me say this again, "Happy Birthday!":)

Thanks Lily for your big help! I really appreciate that. And me too! I'm already looking forward to the next meeting;-)

Thanks Amica for your beautiful song! I think it was a wonderful birthday present for David;-)

Hi David and everyone,

I had a great time at the seminar and the party.
It was really nice to see some members again and I was glad to see Ling, trmr, tsuneko and Amica
in person at last!
Listening to Amica’s song was a very fantastic moment and her song was, of course, amazing!

As for ACADEMIC side of the seminar, Tomo has already explained nicely, so I don’t think I need to talk about it anymore.

I’ve got lots of hints from Saturday’s seminar to improve my English.
David, thank you!
Huge thanks for Tomo and Lily!
I'm looking forward to the next seminer and meeting a lot more people!

Anne

Hi David everyone,

I had really great time at the seminar and the party. Last year, I didn't join the event of this blog, but I finally did! I was so happy to meet David, amo, Anne, Gussan, Lily, Ling, Maki, Tomo, tsuneko, trmr and trmr's girl friend. (trmr, your girl friend was cute, so you are lucky person!)
About the seminar, as member said, it was interesting, but it was difficult for me because David did the seminar all in English. Tomo was sitting next to me, and when I didn't understand what David said, she helped me to understand it, so I understood what he said, maybe.....(笑)
I didn't expect I sang a song at the party! To tell the truth, that play was not my best play because I had no preparation, but I was glad you enjoyed hearing me sing.

Tomo and Lily, we enjoyed the seminar and the party thanks to you. Thanks a lot!

I'm looking forward to the next meeting.

Amica

Hi everyone,

Nice to know you arrived home safely!

After read all your comments and Tomo's detailed report,I think members who couldn't attend the event can almost imagine what the seminar and party liked.David's lesson was very interesting and full of humour, and he looked very cool in a grey shirt.

Tomo, when Amica was performing,I had a chance to take some pictures and a vedio clip for her and some other members,I'm not sure if it's okay to upload them here(maybe need everyone's permission?)Shall I send them to you?

See you later.

Ling

Hi Ling,

Thanks for taking some picture and video recording, but I'm sorry I would rather you don't upload them here. If you send them to Tomo's personal address, it is OK.

Amica

Hi everyone,

Last night, there was the boxing match of my favorite fighter, Takashi Uchiyama in his hometown, Saitama. He won the match with a technical knockout and kept his title. I watched it on TV, and it was really fantastic. He was very aggressive, but also very cool. He is a cleverer fighter than I thought.

Sam

Hi Ling,
I just e-mailed you, so please check it later;-)

Hi Amica & everyone,
I asked Ling to send me the pictures she took at the party. If you'd like to see them, please let me know. I'll send them to you later:)

Have a nice day, everyone!

Tomo

Hi Tomo,
Could you send me some of the pictures ?
ohoho

Hi team,

Today is the deadline for doing the trial printing of my new book, so I won't have time to do another entry. I'll do one tomorrow instead.

Bye for now.

Hi Tomo and Amica,

Thank you for reporting about the seminer in detail.
I felt I had attended it together.

Hi David,
Publish the good book you worked on hard as soon as possible. I'll run to a booksore to buy it when your proofreading and edition has finishied.

Hi all of you who attended the event,

I read your comment. It sounds like you had a wonderful time!

Hi everyone,

I live in Osaka and my sister lives in Nagoya, where is my hometown. She has two daughters. One is twelve years old and the other is eleven. They are a big fan of "A-RA-SHI".
Last Sunday evening she called me when I was in Umeda, Osaka. She said, "Do you often go to CD shops?" and I said, "Yes." ,and then she explained to me that she went to several CD shops to book A-RA-SHI's new limited-edition single CD, but she couldn't book one because they had already finished accepting orders for one. So she wanted me to get their limited CD. I went to several CD shops around Umeda and I managed to book one. I'll hand it to her when we meet in Nagoya at the end of this month.
Today I'll go to the CD shop for one after work, so I have to finish work early.

Sam

Hi David and everyone,

I sent some pictures last night to some people who asked me, so please have a look at them. Ling also sent me a video clip she took when Amica was performing. If you'd like to hear Amica sing again, please let me know. I'll send you the video later.(←Amica says it's okay;-)) I already watched it many times. Her voice is sooo beautiful!!

Hi Ling,
Thanks for sharing the pictures and the video! They are really nice!!

Hi Appoh,
I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. Would you like me to send you the video as well? ohoho(笑)

Hi David,
Don't worry about doing a new entry if you are very busy. We can wait:)
So, the part you hate most is coming soon, isn't it?(←I'm talking about your new book.) I hope you won't feel depressed so much this time!

Hi Carrie and Sam,
Glad to hear you enjoyed reading our reports. I hope you can make it next time!

See you soon,

Tomo

PS Sam, your nieces are lucky to have you as an uncle;-)

PPS Everyone, we don't see reports from Maki and Tsuneko yet, but they will be back soon, so don't worry about that:)

Hi David and everyone,

I'm glad you had a great time at seminar and party!
David,

I'm looking foward to reading your new book!

Tomo,

Thank you for sharing your long story about the seminar.

Hi Sam,
You're really a great uncle! I'm sure your nieces are looking forward to seeing you very much next time.

Hi Tomo,
Thank you for sending those pictures, that must have kept you busy. I feel happy too, it's nice to share something with other people.

Hi appoh,
Of course I'm not in those pictures because I was the camera woman(笑), maybe next time you can take some pictures including me in.

Talk to you later.

Ling

Hi team,

I just got back from Hamamatsu. I went to a company called Ogushow to ask about making my van a bit more like a camping car. They gave me a very good price, so I'm going to do it in about two weeks. I'll show you some pictures when it's done.

I'm too tired to do another entry now, so I'll do it tomorrow.

Hope you are all having a good evening.

Hi David and Everyone,

I'm sorry that I'm a little slow to post a comment.
I had a great time at the seminar and the party. I was happy to meet Ling, trmr, tsuneko and Amica for the first time and it was also really nice to see Tomo, Anne, Lily, amo, Gusaan and David again!

David, thanks for the wonderful seminar! It was really interesting and I will keep it in mind and go on practising.;-)

Amica, it was lovely to hear you sing! Thanks!!

Tomo and Lily, thank you for everything you'd done!
I had a lot of fun!

I'm ready for the next event.;-) I hope to meet a lot more people next time. Appohも早く帰ってきてね~^^

Bye for now,

Maki

P.S.
David, it seems that you've done all for the new book. It's nice to hear that your van will be a bit more like a camping car soon.:-)

P.P.S.
trmr, your girlfriend is lovely. It was pitty that I didn't have a chance to talk to her. Maybe next time.^^

Hi Ling,
I’ve received the photos and the video you took at the party. I loved them! They captured the happy atmosphere very well. Thanks!

Tomo, thanks for sending them to me! :-)

Hi Ling,
I've also received the photos and the video at the party. Thank you! They are really nice and I watched the video several times.
Hi Tomo,
Thank you for sending them to me, too.
Good night, Everyone.
Maki

Hi Ling,
Thank you for taking nice photos and videos.
I've received the email from Tomo.
They made me feel happy again.

Hi Tomo,
Thanks for sending them to me!

David,
Now you are ready for driving all over Japan!
Looking forward to seeing your photos.
Anyway, take a good rest.

Anne

Hi David and everyone,

I'm finally back home tonight. It was just like a dream world in Tokyo. Thank you all of you for everything at the event. I'll write more hopefully tomorrow. No more battery... power is going off.

Hi everyone

I want to write about the seminar in a little more detail. I strongly remember that David told us to become "a hunter." It means that we have to search and get a new expression for us like a hunter, then, try to use it in another form. So, I read and hear English in "a hunter mode" now.

The party was also great. Especially, as other members said, Amica singing! It was first time I met blog members. 皆さん素敵でした!

Thank you all again.
I am looking forward to next seminar and meeting you.
And special thanks to David and Tomo. The seminar wasn't held without you.

Hi Amica, Amo, Lily, Maki

Thanks! I told her. She's glad :-)

Hi Tomo

I want the pictures. Would you send me them?

trmr

Tomo, Green, and Ling, thank you all three.
I went to the CD shop after work and I got one!

Green, Is it hard to get such tickets even despite of the member of their fan club?

Hi David,
It sounds great. That is a treat for yourself, isn't it?

Sam

Hi David and everyone,

Ling,
>it's nice to share something with other people.
I think so, too!

David,
Your van is going to be like a camping car? That's nice! I'm looking forward to your pictures.

Maki&Lily&Anne,
You are welcome! Those pictures and the video take us back to the happy time, don't they?

Tsuneko,
Glad to hear you are back safely! Take a good rest:)

trmr,
Sure! Say hello to your lovely girlfriend from me too;-)

Sam,
You got one? I'm happy for you!

everyone,
I'm going out today, so see you tonight or tomorrow.

Have a nice day!

Tomo

I don’t even know the way I finished up here, but I assumed this submit was good. I don’t understand who you are but certainly you are going to a well-
