Me and I
Hi team,
Thanks for all your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the seminar. If any of you want a copy of the blue or green books but didn't get one on Saturday, please email me, and I will send you one. ("Copy" is the word used for counting books - I don't mean a photocopy).
As trmr said, I was stressing in the seminar that you have to be constantly aware of how language is being used, and even become a kind of "hunter" for words and phrases that you can add to your own knowledge database of English.
Actually, I noticed something very interesting about English when I was watching a You Tube clip today.
As you may know, native speakers of English often use "me" where "I" would be correct. For example, many people say things like "John and me went fishing." It is also quite common to hear people getting confused and using "I" because they think it is correct even when they should use "me." I even heard Bill Clinton make that mistake once!
Anyway, if you ask most native speakers, they will tell you that it doesn't really matter because people understand what you mean. However, when I was watching an interview with Denzel Washington on You Tube this morning, he used "me" in a way that gave his sentence a completely different meaning. He was talking about John Travolta, and he said, "Actually, my wife knows him much better than me."
Can you see the difference between that and "... knows him much better than I"? I'll leave you to think about that. I'm sure some of you will be able to come up with the answer.
As I mentioned in a comment last night, I am going to get a bed put in my van so I can use it as a real camping car. The company I'm using is very well-known in the world of camping cars, and I met the president at Suzuka when I went to help Tonari san with his race. The company is called Ogushow, and if you have a look at their website, you can see lots of pictures of how people have converted Toyota Hiaces into camping cars for all different kinds of sports.
http://www.ogushow.co.jp/
I have to get back to work now because I still have a lot of checking to do on my new book, and I also have to get ready for a conference in Osaka this weekend. I'm presenting on both Saturday and Sunday, so I have to prepare my notes and think about what I'm going to say.
Have a great weekend.
PS
In trmr's comment, he said, "The seminar wasn't held without you." This is quite a difficult thing to say, but it should be, "The seminar wouldn't have been held without you."

素晴らしい説明!その通り。It's quite a different meaning, isn't it!

Hi David,
I pictured these sentences in my head.
"My wife knows him much better than me."
My wife knows him. > My wife knows me.
"My wife knows him much better than I."
My wife knows him. > I know him.
It's quite a different meaning.

Hi Ling,
It’s a bit late but…Thank you for taking the pictures at the party. I totally forgot about the camera. I like them, and I am happy that I could hear Amica sing again and again.
Hi Tomo,
Thank you for sending me some pictures and a video.
Hi tsuneko,
Good to know that you got back safely. I wanted to talk to you more at the party. Maybe next time ;-)
Hi David,
It seems like that you are going to have another busy weekend!! Good luck. I am sure that your presentations will successful.
Speaking of “me and I”, it’s quite interesting.

Hi tsuneko,
Glad to hear that you got back home safely. Did you have a good time with your aunt?
Hi David,
It sounds like you are having another busy days not only for the new book, but also for the conference. Hope everything will be going very well with you!;-)
As for "me and I", I've heard about that before, and it's interesting. The meanings of those sentences are quite different, so we should be careful to write something like them, right?
I had a look at the website. I didn't know that you can convert Toyota Hiaces into camping cars! I'm also surprised that not a few people have done. You can sleep anywhere while driving around Japan, except in winter in Hokkaido. Hmm, you might get a heater as well!?;-)
Hi Appoh,
Maybe~!
Bye for now,

Hi David
Thank you for your correction. I don't figure out a nuance of "would" and how to use it yet.
Talking about "me and I", I often hear both "you and me" and "you and I" in lyrics or something. Your example is interesting. These are quite different.
By the way, I noticed that these two sentences can be translated into same Japanese, "私の妻は私よりも彼のことをよく知っている." It is more confusing...
You have been continuing to work hard, haven't you? Please take a rest when you can.
Hi tsuneko
I'm glad to hear that you got back security :-)
Hi Tomo
Thank you for sending an email. I received the photos and video.
Hi Ling
I get the pictures you took from Tomo. They are nice pictures. Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I know the usage of 'me and I' in this case becasue some textbooks for Enlish learners point out the difference of the meaning.
If they write the sentence:『私の妻は彼のことを私よりよく知っている』 in English, they are able to write, 'My wife knows him much better than I do.' as you know.
Trmr's comment: "私の妻は私よりも彼のことをよく知っている." It is more confusing..., I tortally agree with him.
We Japanese people have to guess the real meaning from the context.
In my opinion, in English, they can describe the sentence correctly so they should write the sentence: 'My wife knows him much better than I do.', I think.
See ya.

Hi David and みなさん、

Hi David and everyone,
The difference between "my wife knows him much better than me" and " my wife knows him much better than I" is really interesting! I have to be careful when I say this kind of sentence.
I also had a look at the website, and I was surprised that there were a lot of different types of beds. Which one are you going to get? I'm looking forward to pictures of your new "camping car"!
Hi amo & trmr,

Hi, everyone.
It is interesting to think of the differences of use between "I" and "me" in the case of comparative.
I have learned that "She knows him better than I" is correct grammatically if you use this one as the meaning of "私より彼女のほうが彼を知っている。".
I strongly want to know the difference of the feeling of both "than I" and "than me"?

Hi tsuneko,
Thank you so much for the report of the seminer.
I realized that you are all friends even if someone met each other for the first time.
Hi everyone,
I went to Shikoku Dougo-onsan by my husband's car, on May 21, one night and two days trip. Usually he drives not so long way. This time he drove about 800km, including Awaji-Oohashi and Seto-Oohashi. Unfortunately his car doesn't have a car navigation. So I had to be a navigator, which made me so exhausted too. Now I understand when David drove all the way from Hokkaido to Aichi, he must have been exhausted too.
The first day was thick foggy in Awajishima, I couldn't see the sea, which seanery I love, and because of yellow sand (黄砂?), at the top of the Matsuyama castle, donjon, we couldn't see the Mediterian sea and Ishizuchiyama, either.
Second day, rather not clear, but I could enjoy the sea view a lot.
I know in case we go somewhere on a highway, weekends are best. But I hate traffic jam, that's why I compromizied Friday and Saturday.

Hi everyone,
tsuneko talked about members who attended the seminar but I noticed that none of us talked about tsuneko, so can I share my impression with you?

Sorry, I couldn't join you this weekend. I had a slight fever on Saturday, so I spent most of the weekend in bed. I didn't have a cold, but I felt sick and didn't have much energy. If you'd like to visit Dougo-onsen and take a bath at '坊ちゃんの湯’, you should go as early as possible.

How was your weekend? I went to my friend's wedding reception. It was a great time. There was a funny event, ブーケトス(男性向け). I joined it and, fortunately, I caught it. But the bouquet had no flower because it was a broccoli! It was the first time for me to catch a broccoli in the air.
After a day, the broccoli was in stew. Tasted good.

When I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get 4 emails with the same comment. Is there any manner you may take away me from that service? Thanks!

I am really loving the theme/design of your blog. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility issues? A number of my blog visitors have complained about my website not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Safari. Do you have any suggestions to help fix this problem?

外出先からなので、日本語で失礼します。
これは全くの勘なのですが、meを使った文章は、『私の妻は私のことよりも、彼のことの方をよく知っている』という意味で、Iを使った文章は、『私の妻は彼のことを私よりよく知っている』って意味なのかしら…。
当てずっぽうです。全然違ってたらごめんなさい^^;
