Hokkaido Photos - Explanations

Hi team,

Thanks for all your comments about the photos. I would love to do the kind of book that Tsuneko suggested, but I'm afraid I am just an amateur. When you see pictures taken by professionals, they are in a different league altogether. Still, I was happy with some of the ones I took this time. I'm not sure why, but this one was my favourite:

Crop field, Hamakoshimizu

Let me tell you the stories behind some of the other pictures.

The pictures of Kussharo Ko were taken on a morning when there was no wind at all, and the surface of the lake just looked like a mirror. The reflections were almost perfect, and the weather was great, so it was incredibly pretty. I decided to rent a rowing boat and row over to the island, and two of the pictures were taken from the boat. It took me about two hours to row to the island and back, and I ended up with big blisters on my hands, but it was well worth it.

Nakshima, Kussharo

The pictures of flowers were taken when I climbed Furano Dake in the Taisetsu Zan range. I've been up there before in the winter, but never in the summer, so it was nice to see a different view of the mountains.

By the way, did you see this picture of my van?

All the luggage in the van

This is how I packed everything in. On the left, you can see that the bed is folded up behind the bicycle. If you take the bicycle out, there is just enough room for the bed to come down even if you leave the motorcycle in, so that is how I was sleeping most of the time.

The series of sunset pictures were taken at Tofutsu Ko in Hamakoshimizu. I used to visit this place a lot because it's right by Hamakoshimizu Youth Hostel. I didn't stay at the Youth Hostel this time, but I wanted to see the lake again, so I drove there from Kussharo Ko. On the day I went, the weather was fantastic. I knew there was going to be a fabulous sunset, so I waited around. I think I was there for about an hour just watching the sun go down.

Actually, one of my favourite pictures was the one of Shari Dake. This was taken facing away from the sunset, but the sky was still really pretty.

Shari Dake from Lake Tofutsu at Sunset

The final few photos were taken when I climbed up to Shiretoko Numa with a couple of friends from Sapporo. We parked our cars at the end of the road up from Raus at a place called Aidomari, and then we had to walk for about two hours along the rocky beach that you can see in the pictures. That was really tough going! The plan was to walk as far as the first big river, and then follow the river up into the mountains. Just before we got to the river, though, we found that we had to climb a really steep slope using ropes. This was really scary even on the way up, but it was much worse on the way back because it was raining, and all the rocks were really wet and slippery. It's also quite difficult when you are carrying a heavy rucksack!

The first rope climb, Shiretoko Numa

On the way up the river, we kept getting lost because there is no trail, but another group ahead of us had left tape markers for us, so it became a kind of "hunt-the-tape" game. (When we caught up with that group, they said they had kept getting lost as well.) Anyway, we got as far as a place called Aonuma, and then we had to climb a long ridge to get up to Shiretoko Numa, where we were planning to camp. The ridge was really steep, but the clouds parted and the sun came out as we were climbing, so we had a great view.

When we looked at the maps, we could see that the final kilometer to Shiretoko Numa was mostly flat, so we thought that we had done all the hard work when we climbed the ridge. What we didn't realise, however, was that although it was flat, we had to struggle through bushes and trees, so it took us about an hour to cover just that small distance. Apparently, this kind of walking is called "yabukogi," and I hope I never have to do it again! The bushes were so thick that you couldn't see your feet, so I kept banging my legs into branches and falling into puddles. I still have the bruises now! We eventually reached Shiretoko Numa just before it went dark, and that is when I took this photo.

Shiretoko Numa

The quality is not great, but the colours were really pretty, so I thought you might like to see it.

The next morning, we were planning to get up really early and climb up to Shiretoko Dake, but the weather turned overnight, and when we woke up, it was raining, and the mountain was covered in clouds. We were really tired, and we were already feeling nervous about going down the steep ridge in the rain, so we decided to give up on Shiretoko Dake and just head home.

On the way down, I had expected my pack to be a lot lighter, because I had been carrying the food, and we had eaten most of it. Unfortunately, I was also carrying the tent, which had doubled in weight when it got rained on, so the pack ended up actually being heavier.

The descent was really tough, and as we struggled down the mountain, we tried to forget that even when we got to the bottom, we still had another two-hour walk along the rocky beach again.

Anyway, we finally made it back to the car, and I drove back to the Seicomart in Raus to get some food. Unfortunately, I was so exhausted that I wasn't concentrating properly. When I opened the door of my van, I smashed it into my face and cut my eyebrow. I still have that scar as well! I must have looked (and smelt) very strange when I went into the Seicomart with filthy clothes and blood all over my face.

So that was the story of my Shiretoko adventure. We didn't see any bears, but we did pass through a valley where we could smell one. It was a really wild area, and incredibly beautiful, but I don't think I'll be going back for a while. I'm getting too old for that kind of adventure!

Let me know if you have any questions about any of the other photos.

Bye for now.

PS Tomo - congratulations to your son and his team. You must have been very proud to see him playing on TV!

Comments

Hi David,

Thank you for sharing the stories behind the pictures and the one about your adventure!!
While you were doing the new enrty, I was struggling to post my comment on the previous one, as アクセス不可.--;

Anyway, thanks again!
I'm so sleepy and my brain doesn't work any more tonight.
Talk to you later,

Maki

Hi David,

Thank you for explanations of your pictures. I really enjoyed reading your stories. Your Shiretoko adventure sounds pretty tough!! I am not kind a person to do such a thing but it seems interesting (I am sure I would give up at the middle of it)

Hi Tomo and Ling,

I go to the movies once a month at least. I know it’s a bit difficult for mothers to find a time to go, but you should go sometime. It’s nice to see movies in big screen.

Hi David,
Thank you very much for telling us the stories about the pictures.
So it was a real adventure!
I feel like your story is kind of cliffhanging movie or something, especially Yabukogi at Shiretokonuma.
>I'm getting too old for that kind of adventure!
I don't know if you are too old to do such kind of adventure but please be careful and make a right decision, not to get hurt yourself.
I think you may know the news about one Sawanobori climber was killed in Saitama.
Worst is the rescue helicopter crashed.
Anyway, it's a relief you came back fine, although you still have some scars.

I like every photos but I like the one with a bird in the center of Sunset Lake Tofutsu,Hamakoshimizu best.

Bye for now

Fumie

Hi everyone
I couldn't be here because I have been busy these days.

David. Thank you for sharing nice photos and explanations. Each picture is beautiful and surprising. I like lake's pictures. You are good photographer! I enjoyed the stories of your adventure. The picture of your van is also surprising. It has a capacity to carry two vehicles!

amo. I watched "Inception" last weekend, too. The story focused on "idea" and I like its "idea". Currently it is the best movie of the year for me. Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite director. Did you see any other his works?

Tomo. I'm sorry to hear your son's defeat. But let me say that congratulations on you son and his school. It was amazing that your son was on TV. It is beautiful that they went all out even if they were defeated.

Everyone. It's another hot day today! Please take care about 夏バテ.

trmr

Hi David and everyone,

Thanks for sharing the stories behind the pictures. I enjoyed reading them as I looked at the photos again.

>Crop field Hamakoizumi
I kind of understand why you picked up this picture. It looks like a gold field in the gentle wind. I like the atmosphere of this photo.

>The pictures of Kussharo Ko
You took this picture when there was no wind at all? I see. That's why the surface of the lake just looked like a mirror. Yes, it's incredibly pretty!

>The picture of you van
You are good at packing. I think you are much better at it than me!

>The series of sunset pictures
You really love sunsets. I think you have seen a lot of sunsets at many different places. When and where did you see the best one?

>The first rope climb
It seems that you had a really big adventure. You call it a "slope"? I think it's more like a "cliff"! Just imagining to climb up there gives me the chill!

>The picture of Shirekoto Numa
Actually, I didn't have a good image of “numa”, but this one is really beautiful. It looks like a painting!

>I must have looked (and smelt) very strange when I went into the Seicomart with filthy clothes and blood all over my face.
Ha ha ha. Sorry, but I laughed when I read this. What was the reaction of the people at the Seicomart? I guess they were very surprised when they saw you come in(笑).
Anyway, I'm glad you are back safely(??) from your Shiretoko adventure:)

By the way, thanks for your message to my son and his team.
Yes, I was very proud to see him playing on TV. I was screming with my middle son and my daughter lol.

Hi trmr,
Thanks for your comment! It was a nice surprise for my family, and their tears were beautiful. I almost cried!
>Please take care about 夏バテ.
You too!

Hi David,
Thank you for the explanation of the pictures, when I was amazed at your photography technique and the beautiful scenery, I didn’t know there were so many blisters, bruises and even a scar behind them!
Your Shiretoko Numa adventure was a breathtaking and aching story, I kept screaming ”Oh no!Oh, poor David!” in my mind when I was reading it, at the end, when I was about to be in relief because you’d reached your car, I didn’t expect at all you would got a smash there by yourself, that really shocked me!
Please forget the adventure for a while, you need some time to take care of your badly-bruised&scarred body (maybe heart as well?? ^_-).
As Fumie mentioned, I was also impressed by the picture with a bird in the center of Sunset, how could you catch that moment?
And the same as Tomo, I’ve never imaged that “numa” can be so beautiful, it’s exactly like a painting, sorry, I can’t find other words to describe it.

Hi amo,
You’re lucky that you can go to the movies so often, if you see some good ones, please share with us.

Hi trmr,
Nice to see your comment here, please take care of yourself, not to get夏バテ.

Hi David

Thank you for your explanation! The story of your Shiretoko adventure was so exciting.

The picture of the first rope climb looks dangerous! The ridge is very steep. If I were here,I coudn't do like you.Good job,David!!

I love your picture of Shiretoko numa. When I saw the picture,I thought that the reflection is beautiful. The picture is the best for me.

By the way,You cut your eyebrow? You look like you're in pain..Oh,that's too bad.

Hi team

How's the weather? It's really hot in Osaka, but the air conditioner in my company broke,,,I melt...I wanted to go home soon if my boss allow me to go home.

Nao

Hi again David,

I just re-read my comment and thought that it sounded rude. When I read this sentence "When I opened the door of my van, I smashed it into my face...", I thought that it was like "manga" or a joke Japanese comedians often play, but you cut your eyebrow, so I shouldn't have laughed... I'm so sorry! Please accept my apology.

Tomo

Hi David,
You could survive among the bushes and trees. Congratulations on getting back safely even with scar and bruise. I love the picture of
Shiretoko Numa reflecting the Shiretokodake on the lake. It's so beautiful. Thank you for sharing the adventure story. Take a good rest!

Hi Tomo,
I'm so sorry, you can swim well, can't you? I misunderstood. And I'm also sorry to hear of your son's loss of the final game. But for him it's a good experience and memory during his adolescence.

Hi Maki,

Sorry I found your comment to me on last entry just today. You don’t like that kind of movie? What kind of movie do you like? I watch any kind besides horror.

Hi trmr,

>Christopher Nolan is one of my favourite directors. Did you see any other his works?
Of course, I am not sure but I think I watch most of his films; “Following,” “Memento,” “Insomnia,” “Batman Begins,” “The prestige,” and “The Dark Knight.” How about you? Have you watched all his films? To tell the truth, I haven’t watched his films at theatres but this time. By the way, when I mentioned about Christopher, somehow you popped up in my mind. For some reason, I thought you might like him. I’m happy that I was right ;-) and glad to find your comment again. Anyway, it seems that you’ve been busy these days, but you also take yourself.

Hi Ling,

Ok I will tell you when I watch interesting movies.

Hi Nao,

The air conditioner in your office was broken? That’s too bad! Hope it will be fixed soon.

Hi Carrie,

So that comment was to “Ling and me”?
Me, too, I prefer just watching the sea :-) I do not go to the beach so often when I go back to Okinawa. It is enough for me to drive along the coast. (Of course I am not driver)

Hi David,

>Let me know if you have any questions about any of the other photos.
You took a couple of pictures of hot springs, right? They seem to be very nice, did you enjoy both hot springs?

bye for now,
amo

Hi David and everyone,
How are you doing? I hope you are not suffering from the heat wave.

David, thanks for sharing your stories behind pictures.
>Crop Field
When I saw this photo, it reminded me of the movie" The Wind shakes the Barley(麦の穂をゆらす風)." The same kind of "golden field doesn't appear in the movie, and I don't know why, but I just visualized a gust of wind went through the barley field and I really liked it.
>did you see this picture of my van?
→ Of course I saw it! You told us you fixed your bed in the van at Hamamatsu and now showed us how you packed everything. It's very functional, isn't it? Taking tho bike in and out sounds easy. So,this van carries your dreams and adventures with you!

> Among the pictures of flowers, I love the one "Field in Kutchan"(before"Alpine Flowers, Furanodake). The contrast of yellow and pale pink( or white), and field stretching long are very nice and beautiful. Are these pale pink flowers potato's flowers?

>The series of sunset pictures
You took a lot and all of them are fabulous. Among them, my favorite is "Sunset,Lake Tofutsu Hamakoshimizu"; not the one with mountain but the one that is focused on the sunset and with a shadow of a small bird. Fumie and Ling, we seem to have the same taste.

>With your photos of sawanobori(Yabokogi), I found how tough it was and how dangerous it could be. Please keep in mind "a serious injury-free" when you are going to have adventures next time.

> By the way, the photo"Me on Furano Dake" seems to have been taken from afar. You stood on the cliff and were looking down the foot?

Hi Ling,Maki, amo and Tomo,
Thanks for your kind words. It's tough to lose weight because I can't resist eating ice-cream!

Hi amo and trmr, I'm interested in the movie,'Inception.' Hmmm...I'd love to see it.

Bye for now,

Anne

Hi Carrie,

That's OK:) I was good at swimming when I was a child, but I'm not a good swimmer anymore.

>But for him it's a good experience and memory during his adolescence.

I think so, too. Thanks!

Have a nice day, everyone!

Tomo

PS Nao, I also hope the air conditioner in your office will be fixed soon!

Correction

but you also take yourself.
> but you also take care of yourself.

Hi everyone,

Looks like having anther hot day today.
Take care ;-)

amo

Hi everyone,
amo, yeah, it would be, but it's slightly unbearable.(it would be under "35C" today around my place!!)

Nao, I hope you can stay in an air-conditioned office today!

Speak to you soon,

Anne

it's me again.
"unbearable" should be "bearable",of course.

今日は35Cを下回る予報だから、少しいい、なんていう自分の言葉が信じられません!35C!!

Hi amo,
Yes, I like to go to the beach as you do and just see the scenery. I sometimes to go there, but I'm not a driver, either.

Hi everyone,
It seems that we have almost got used to the hotness,34,35℃ is just another hot day to us and it’s bearable^^ But still, please take care, have a nice day!

Hi Nao,
Have your company had the air-conditioner fixed today? I hope so.

Hi Anne,
I don’t know anyone who can resist ice-cream.

Hi amo,Tomo,Anne and Ling

Thank you for your comments. The air conditioner is fixed in my floor!!Wonderful.
I can't live without the air conditioner. The air conditioner is my best friend.

I hope the air conditioner of the dining room will be fixed, tooI don't want to eat lunch
in the hot room like yesterday...

Hi Anne

I also can't resist eating ice-cream!Ice-cream makes me happy:)
Every day I eat ice-cream after dinner....Not healthy...

Nao

Hi Tomo,

Don't worry, I actually laughed at myself after I did it. I think your image of the manga was about right!

Hi Nao,

I'm with you on this one. I don't know who it was, but let's all give thanks to the person who invented air conditioners. Actually, it's a bit cooler in Seto today, and they are forecasting rain for tomorrow, so it should get even cooler. Anyway, I only have to manage for another few days, and then I will be back in Wales, where it is probably about 20 degrees!

Hi David

You will be back in Wales?Sounds great!I'm so jealous.
I also want to escape! I feel like a snowman that was made in summer.
This season is unbearable for me.
It's about 20 degrees in Wales?Such a nice place.
I'm sure you'll have a lovely time.
I'm looking forwad to hearing your story:)

Nao

Hi Nao,

Haha,snowman made in summer,nice expression,I love it!

Hi David,
It's a good idea to run away from Japan in this season, how long will you be away? We are going to miss you.

Hi David,

Anther few days and then you’ll be in Wales? Nice to get away from this heat in Japan. About 20 degrees is a bit chilly for me though!! By the way, I got an email from my sister the other day, and it said that “It’s COLD!!” this was the words when she got to the airport in US. It was about 15 degrees or something! She was not expected that cold. She was just away only two weeks, and it seemed like that summer has come and gone during her absence. That made her miss “hot summer in Tokyo” so you’d miss “this heat” when you are in Wales (lol)

Hi Nao,

>The air conditioner is fixed in my floor!! Wonderful!
So you were in heaven today? That’s good.

Hi Anne and ice cream lovers,

I thought I was an ice cream lover, too. But I might not like it that much because I do not eat it so often like you!! There is some in the freezer and it has been there for more than one week.

Hi Anne,

>Crop field
I watched that movie, too, so I see what you mean:-) By the way, do you know that Cillian Murphy was in “inception”?

good night and sweet dreams,
amo

Hi David,

Sorry for my late comment. Yes, I have a question about one of your pictures titled "P7141188". Actually Maki has already asked where it was. I like it, too. I’m wondering whether it is Lake Onnetoh or not. Thanks for sharing lots of interesting stories behind the pictures. It was a lot of fun to read. Even though you’re an amateur photographer, you have a pen as well as a camera like this entry. That’s your strength. By the way, my favorite is 2 pcs. of “Rana and Tetsu”, although all of the pictures were amazing. Tetsu’s facial expression is good in the first picture in which Rana is holding an iced lolly in her mouth. Rana really looks like she has enough guts to have kept asking you “なあに?” in the second picture in which Tetsu is showing his back.

Hi Maki, Ling, Carrie, amo, Tomo and everyone,

Thanks for your comments to me. Sorry for my late reply. Ling, did you check some videos on YouTube? My neighbor and I did the same. There were various kinds of Kawachi-Ondo. They were showing the different ways of dancing, so my neighbor suggested me to just take the rhythm and dance freely as I like. Then, I did so at the night. Surprisingly, I felt it was simpler than the previous night. If you have a chance, please try Kawachi-Ondo once.:)

Sorry, the above comment with no name was by tsuneko.

Correction

and it seemed like that summer has come and gone during her absence.

and it seemed like that summer had come and gone during her absence.

amo

Hi Amo,

Yes, I went in both of those hot springs, and many others as well!

Hi Tsuneko,

Yes, that is Oneto. I took that picture from the path that goes around the lake, just across from the campsite. Have you ever been to Oneto?

Hi LIng and amo

It isn't hot today!I'm in heaven now.
It was so hot that I melted, but I won't melt today:)

Have a good day!

Nao

Hi Nao,
You must have been relieved that your air-conditioner had fixed. I really agree with you. Without air-conditioner, in a place like Kyoto more than 36℃ degrees , we can't survive, can't sleep well either. And we lost our appetite too. Thanks to the air-conditioner, we can live comfortably, but considering global warming, we should do without it as much as possible.

Hi tsuneko,
You are having a lot of fun dancing Bonodori. Taking part in the circle is much better than just watching it, right? If I had a chance to dance, I would like to do, but I'm afraid I am not good at physical exercises, I wonder I could dance well or not.

Hi David,
You are going to Wales soon, right? The place with 20 degrees is like a heaven. Have a nice holiday.

Thanks David. I'm relieved to hear that:) Be careful not to get hurt next time!
By the way, as Anne said, the photo "Me on Furano Dake" seems to have been taken from a distance. I'm wondering how it was taken. It looks like as if it was taken from a helicopter.

Hi Anne and Ling
>今日は35Cを下回る予報だから、少しいい、なんていう自分の言葉が信じられません!
>It seems that we have almost got used to the hotness,34,35℃ is just another hot day to us and it's bearable.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was a child, the temperature rarely reached(or went over) 30 degrees, but now we are used to this incredibly hot weather. I hope we never see the day when we say, "I'm glad the temperature is under 45 degrees today".

Hi Nao,
Glad to hear the air conditioner is fixed and you are not melting today!

Hi amo,
> it seemed like that summer had come and gone during her absence.

Really? It seems like summer is short where your sister is.

See you,

Tomo

Hi Carrie

You live in Kyoto?I went to Kyoto last week,it was very hot.
I felt Kyoto is hotter than Osaka,so I dropped in a cafe a few times.

As you said,we owe a lot to convenience like the air conditioner,on the other hand we should imagine what happens by using it.If we can imagine,we will be able to change our action.
(このテーマは私の英語力ではうまく気持ちを表せないです・・・難しい。。)

Nao

Hi Tomo

Thank you!It rains today,so it's cooler than yesterday.I feel better!

Nao

Hi Tsuneko,
I did check Kawachi-Ondo on YouTube, but they all seemed difficult to me! I'm happy to know that you did it that day, and you wore Yukata, didn't you?

Hi Carrie,
>Taking part in the circle is much better than just watching it, right?
I can't agree more, they are totally different levels of experience! I'd love to learn those dances if someone is brave enough to teach me.

Hi Tomo,
>I hope we never see the day when we say, "I'm glad the temperature is under 45 degrees today".
Hahaha, I laughed when I read this sentence,it's like kind of human endurance test!I think I will die at the begining in this condition.

Hi everyone,
Like many other areas, we had rain here today as well, so it's much cooler than yesterday, I hope you are all enjoying the cool weather.

Have a nice evening!

Hi amo,

Sorry for the belated reply. I don't like horror movies and I usually don't prefer action ones as well. I don't feel at easy while watching them and they make me nail-biting!

Hi tsuneko,

Thanks for asking about the photo! I also guessed it was in Oneto.;-)

Hi David,

I like "Sunset near Kussharo", as I mentioned. I'd been thinking why it was fascinating to me and I realized that it was like a Japanese painting which I saw in an art museum some years ago.

Bye for now,

Maki

Hi Tomo,

That picture was taken by someone else standing right on top of the mountain. The point I was on was a bit below that.

Hi David and Maki,

Aha, our guessing was right. Maki has been there, and I guessed so from the pictures and videos on the internet that I'd searched when you introduced us that beautiful named lake, Oneto for the first time. I'm afraid there isn't any other photo of the lake in your page.

Hi Ling and Carrie,

Hey, both of you, why not just come join us next summer? Carrie, it's not far from your place, and you are young enough to bon-dance. People in their 80 or 90 still dance. Ling, I'll teach you if I still remember. Even if I forget, never mind, we could enjoy ourselves together. As for yukata, I really wanted to wear the night, but I spent too much for practicing and had little time before I left home. Sadly enough, I couldn't find my favourite one at once, because my closet was not organized.

Hi tsuneko,

Sadly enough, it always happens that you can't find it when you want it!

Sam

Hi Sam,

> Sadly enough, it always happens that you can't find it when you want it!

Does it happen to you too? Glad to know we have in common, but what you said sounds like more philosophical.:)

> ...that beautiful named lake, Oneto...

I think it should be "...that BEAUTIFULLY named lake, Oneto....".

Hi Nao,
It's true that Kyoto is hotter than Osaka. And in winter Kyoto is colder than Osaka. I've lived in Osaka before. Actually I live not in the center of Kyoto city but in the suburbs of it, very near from Kyoto JR station.

Hi tusneko,
Thank you for inviting me to next summer bon-dance. I have a curiosity but I'm not good at physical exercise. I wonder I can dance or not. Anyway if I had a chance to visit your place, I'd like to dance. そのときにはどうぞよろしく

Hi team,

Have you ever had that experience where you realize that you don't know something that you think probably everyone else does? It happened to me yesterday, but I'm not sure if it's just me, or whether other people are confused by this as well.

Anyway, my question is:

If I am looking at a full moon in Japan, will there be a full moon in Britain the following night as well, or will it be in a different phase? I looked this up on the Internet, but I couldn't find any explanation of this particular point. Can anyone help me?

Hi Carrie,

Sure! That will be fun.

Hi David,

It seems you can see a full moon in Britain too, although there is some time differences. I'm not familiar with that kind of things, so I've searched about it in Japanese. I'm going back to work. Bye for now.

Hi David and everyone,

Have you ever had that experience where you realize that you don't know something that you think probably everyone else does?
ほかのひとが知っているであろうことを自分が知らないと気付いた経験はあるか?

はい、もちろんたくさんあります!

I read this sentence three or four times to understand what David was supposed to say. Did I get it right?
I don't have enough time to comment here now. Look forward to reading everyone's answer.

see you,
taco

Hi Taco,

Yes, that's the right translation of my question. I just Googled the question "Does the moon look the same all over the world?" and apparently, the answer is that it does, although there is a very slight difference caused by the different viewing angles.

I guess it wasn't such a stupid question after all.

e moon look the same all over the world?" and apparently, the answer is that it does, although there is a very slight difference caused by

It’s arduous to search out knowledgeable individuals on this matter, but you sound like you recognize what you’re speaking about! Thanks

There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in Features also.
