退院おめでとうございます！　I just imagined how a doctor would stick a suction pipe in deepest of my nose and start to suction, oh, that would be horrible. There's one thing that I was wondering if the operation would change your sense of taste or smell somehow. Anyway, take a good rest. See you next week.

I'm keeping the cotton balls in my nose and not wearing a mask when I'm at home, and then wearing a mask when I go out. I think that people wearing masks look pretty stupid, but not as stupid as people with cotton balls up stuck up their nose!

Tomo - the sentence about your son should be conditional:

I'm not sure whether he would do it for me or not.

If you say "I'm not sure whether he does it," it means that maybe he does sometimes, but you just don't notice. If you tell him to clean his room but you never check it, then you could say "I'm not sure whether he does it or not."

Your operation story remains me of mine. I have had eye operations three times, and once I had to stay in a hospital for a week. I remember that I woke up middle of the night because of the pain!!(I think I mentioned this before) Anyway, take care of yourself.

I just remembered my "seafood" experiences with David, so let me share them with you.

A few years ago, David and some English teachers at Nanzan University held an event called "Charity English Day", and I took part in the event. I met David for the first time, and we had dinner at an Italian restaurant. We decided to share one pasta dish, and he let me choose it. He said, "I can't eat seafood."(That's why I knew he doesn't like it.) I asked him, "Why?", then he said, "I just cannot eat seafood." I think he thought to himself, "The same question, again!"(笑) Sorry David, I annoyed you at that time.

In March, 2009, we had the first blog event and had dinner at a hotel in Tokyo with David and some people from the blog. When the servers brought us the fish dishes, David said, "I can't eat this", and I asked him, "You can't eat fish either??" Then he said, “魚もシーフードです～”(笑) Yes, he was absolutely right! But I didn't think of fish as "seafood" at that time. When I hear the word “シーフード” in Japanese, I think of shrimps, squids, octopuses, scallops, clams, or some other shellfish. Is it just me??

“シーフード”と聞いても「魚」を連想できないんですよね～。　これって私だけ？？

Hi everyone,
The other days, I went to watch a musical my friend appeared on. The musical was original work which was based on a folktale, so I didn't know the story, but I felt my friend might have forgot a line in one scene because he took time a strange pause. On that night, he called me and said "Did you notice that I forgot a line?", I said "Yes!". He said "やっぱり…".　He seemed to feel down, so I said "Your songs were very nice! Please drink a wine I presented to you, and let's just forget a little failure!" I knew how he felt because I forgot words of a song on the last concert! I made words of the song at once and sang, so maybe the audience didn't notice, but I was frustrated because I was thinking that I had perfectly remembered the words! Remembering words of many songs is hard......

Piggyback ride story は、そんなに真面目な話じゃあないです。When my youngest(8 years old) asked me to give him a piggyback ride and I did that. And in that sequence, older boys asked me the same favor jokingly. So I said I can't but can you give me that instead? And they said OK and... it was such a frightening ride (scarier than roller coaster ride!).They held me on their backs in turns and dashed in the living room, try to shaked me off.　あー怖かった！
About seafood story, I feel sorry for the person when he/she tell me I can't eat something.一緒にいる人が食べられないものが運ばれてきたら、なんか悪いなぁーて気持ちになります。

I found their bashful smile is kind of cute! So, don't worry if you make a mistake when you are singing.

There is a famous recording of Elvis Presley singing live (I think it was "The Wonder of You") when he completely gets the lyrics wrong and ends up singing an entirely different line to the backing singers. He just laughs, and changes to what they are singing.

やっぱり魚はシーフード？(笑)　きっと「シーフードサラダ」や「シーフードスパゲッティー」に魚が入ってるのをあんまり見たことがなくて、スーパーに売ってる「シーフードミックス」に入ってるのもイカとかエビだから、私の頭の中では「シーフード」=「イカ･エビ･タコ・貝」になっちゃったのかも･･･。

Sorry, it seems like I misunderstood your sentence "they give me piggyback ride". When I read this sentence, I thought your sons do it sometimes or regularly because you used the present tense. I think the same goes for my sentence about my son. David said it should be conditional, and I think it means...

I'm not sure whether he would do it for me or not (if I asked him/if I were to ask him to give me a piggyback ride).

I think that's why I shouldn't have used the present tense, and it should be "would do".

David, am I understanding your explanation? If I'm not, please help me again.

Fumieの "they give me piggyback ride" の文を読んだ時は、動詞が現在形だったので、息子さんたちがいつも（または習慣的に）おんぶをしてくれるのかな、と誤解しました。　それで、私が書いた文も同じようなことで直されたのかな、と思いました。　私が言いたかったのは、「息子が私をおんぶしてくれるかどうかは分からない」ですが、「もし頼んだとしても」という隠れた「if 節（条件節）」に気づかなくて、"would do" なのは、それが仮定の話だからなのかな、と思いました。　う～ん、でも違うかも･･･。

Sorry, I couldn't answer your comment earlier because my sons won't let me use pc.　Besides, I'm busy preparing meals, you know they have big appetites. They are always hungry! Having 食べ盛りの男の子３人is kind of 大変！The house is always mess!家はいつも散らかっていて。。。
I used present tense in "they give me piggyback ride" so it implies it happenes customarily or often. I sould have used past tense because it happened in the past. Anyway David's explanation about conditional term is so clear that it's a good chance for me that I learned about that.
