Celebrity Scandals

Sorry for the late entry. As I mentioned yesterday, this week has been a very busy one for me. I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing Golden Week.

One of the biggest news stories in the UK this week has been the granting by courts of injunctions to protect people's privacy. An injunction is an order from a judge to say that nobody is allowed to talk about a particular story. Most of the recent cases have concerned celebrities who have had affairs. When the newspapers find out, the celebrities go to court and try to get an injunction to stop the newspapers printing the story.

The courts often grant these injunctions to protect the families and children of the celebrities, but many people are now starting to get worried because new laws are being created by judges instead of by elected politicians.

Personally, I do not really care which celebrity has had sex with a prostitute, but I do not like the idea of newspapers being blocked from telling stories. I think that is a dangerous road to go down, and I hope that the government will stop it soon.

So what do you think? Should celebrities have the right to keep facts about their private lives secret, or does the public have a right to know.

About the topic, I really don’t care about those kinds of scandals (and gossips,) so I always sorry for the celebrities. I don’t think the public have a right to know about those kinds of scandals.

Hi David,

It seems like everybody in this country are so busy at this moment, including you and my husband. My husband works late these days because he has moved to another job and it keeps him so busy. But he will used to new job soon, and I hope he come back to home earler than now. Also it`s exciting to me too because Golden Week is coming.

About the injuction to protect celebreties privacy in today`s topic, I really am not sure who is right and what is wrong. But I think writing the world events that whatever it is is newspapers`s job. They are just doing their job and they have their own right to bring people the latest fresh news. Somebody just can`t shut them up for the stupid reason about some celebrity is having fair with somebody. Freedom of media is symbol of Democratic Nations like UK or Japan. So I`m basically the same opinion with David. But I have to say that some newspapers go too far, like writing about gossip that the source of information is unclear.

Well that was for today. I tried to express my opinion in English. It was difficult as a usual.

Hi David and everyone,

It seems like it's going to get hot today here. According to the weather forecast yesterday, it was supposed to rain in the morning, but it's sunny! I'm glad the weather report was wrong because my daughter has gone on a school picnic today. I hope she has a lot of fun with her friends.

As for the topic, I think it's very difficult to draw a line between freedom of the press and celebrities' right to privacy. The media write about celebrities' scandals to sell their papers or magazines, and celebrities sometimes use them to sell themselves. I think the public have a right to know the truth, but I don't think it's always the case, and I'm not sure if we should call those scandals "the truth". I think the media has gone too far. I don't like paparazzi or the idea of chasing celebrities all the time and revealing their private lives. I think they have the right to protect their privacy.

Yes, you should have a nice relaxing time on Golden Week. And, Murun's husband should as well with you, Murun!
I've got my part-time job on Golden Week, though. Never mind.

I totally agree with Murun. It's difficult to say, but I think the public has a right to know in many cases. We have a right of press freedom, so injunctions could be a censorship which is carried out by a law created by not elected politicians but judges. And I think to be chased by paparazzi and be on newspapers is a kind of a part of their job, being celebrities, to entertain people. On the other hand, I also think that sometimes gossip magazines go too far and make me sick. I sympathize with these celebrities' families, especially their children. So it's going to be a tough job, but we need to think of a balance between press freedom and privacy, and build a comprehensible borderline between them.

It is a really controversial subject.

As for the topic, I'm not interested in celebrities' gossips at all. I don' understand why people eager to know their private lives. For example stories like, someone is dating someone, are broadcasted continuingly for some time while more serious matters are left untold. In my opinion, I feel sorry for them that their privacies are not protected. I think people shouldn't invade other peoples' privacies.

I agree with David and Tomo.
We live in 言論の自由 and 報道の自由 country.
I don't mean we can say whatever we want. I mean we have to be patient and have understanding other people's 価値観.

I think people who are authorities, public people or celebrities have to わきまえる their situations, because of they are 公の人.
Also they have to expect about the press, because sometimes the press write down bad things too.
I hope the press don't use their power in a dishonest way.

I am sorry for 公の人 can't have a normal lives sometimes.


It is good for us to have questions all the time, otherwise we can be deceive by the propaganda very easily. That is why I love to read David's topics. David's questions give me a chance to think about many things.

I read one sentence before, it says "lives don"t have answer always, so more important thing is we have to think about what is the best solution."

Winter Haven actually has a good enough chance of competing for a State Title or at least getting to the State Title game. The same Winter Haven team that only lost to a Lakeland team when they were healthy on defense. And held that same Lakeland team to their lowest point total of the season yet of 24 points. Yeah and the same Winter Haven team that beat a loaded Lake Wales team. That same Lake Wales team put 42 on Lake Gibson. So dont go overlooking Winter Haven. Defense wins championships and from the way they are playing so far Winter Haven has a very solid defense.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Turn on the TV and see what the hip, cool, popular culture' is watching and there is no mystery as to why they bought hook, line and sinker this smooth, lanky brown operator. On the cover of The Strangers, it states "inspired by true events." The movie is actually INSPIRED by three true events. The person knocking on the door is based off of the director's personal experience. When the director was young, someone knocked on the door of his home. He answered, saying the person they were looking for did not live there, and the person left. The next morning, all of the unoccupied houses in that area were broken into and robbed. Next come the Keddie Cabin Murders. This event was used used with the 911 call with the "blood everywhere" and the mysterious killers. The Keddie Cabin Murder was a terrible thing, but not what the entire movie is based off of. The next INSPIRED event was Charles Manson. The male stranger, although his face was covered, was supposed to resemble the face of Charles Manson. Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion about the basis of The Strangers that several people appear to have.
