Designers (Feedback)

I just had a bit of a shock. I've been listening to BBC Radio 2 on the Internet this afternoon. Because Britain is 8 hours behind us, I was listening to a morning show presented by a DJ called Ken Bruce. Normally, he is really friendly and nice, but this morning, he has been really rude to people who called in, he has made lots of mistakes, and he has been talking absolute rubbish and making really strange noises. I decided that he must be drunk, so I googled the question "Is Ken Bruce drunk?" I thought that other people must have noticed as well, so I expected to find some comments about it.

Anyway, when I checked on the Internet, I found out that in fact, the whole show is an April Fool's joke that was planned by the BBC. The guy doing the show is not the real DJ at all - it's a well-known comedian called Rob Brydon who is impersonating him! I was completely fooled, and I think a lot of other people in Britain will have been fooled as well. Did any of you get taken in by an April Fool's joke today?

Thanks for all your ideas about Japanese designers. As I said, I will google them this weekend and do some research.

Here is some feedback on your comments.

In a nutshell, I had to wait almost 1 hour to go into the house.

It sounds like your Mac computer is really wonderful, or you are a technical genius?
(I think both of those points are true ;-) )

For starter, I just taught them how to write alphabet, big letters.

This is my first time to visit your website.

I'm also learning a lot by doing it.
(Nice sentence.)

I bet you won't forget her face once you have a look at the photo.
(I just googled Yuko Yamaguchi, and you are right! She looks very interesting. Was there a different Kitty designer before? Was it the same design, or was it slightly different?)

Have a great weekend, and I'll see you again on Monday.

Bye for now.

Hi David,

Yes, I got taken in by an April Fool's joke. It's your friend, Mr. Jarrell. He said in today's jaremaga that he got an email from the golfer Ryo Ishikawa and he told Mr. Jarrell that he reads Jaremaga every day. When I read it this morning, I thought it was wonderful, but Mr. Jarrell said at the end of the message, "By the way, I hope you didn't believe this story. Today is April Fool's Day." I had forgotten what the date was today, so I was completely fooled!

Anyway, thanks for your feedback.(It made me laugh. 笑)

Have a great weekend, and see you next week.

Tomo

PS Anne, I also googled Yuko Yamaguchi. I don't think I'll forget her, either!

Let me post this comment to avoid misunderstandings. I laughed when I read the feedback because David said, "I think both of those points are true."

My husband has something to do in Hakone for his work today, and we are going there too.

See you,

Tomo

Hi David,

Thanks for the feedback.
I'd totally forgotten about that yesterday was April fool, and I realized it when I read Jaremaga like Tomo.

Have a nice weekend

amo

Hi David,
Thank you for the feedback. It is always so useful. I made a lot of mistakes. I'm really bad at grammar. I need more practice!

Hi Tomo and Amo,
I was totally fooled by Jaremaga too. He was very good at it, wasn't it? As a matter of fact, I was going to write about Jaremaga's April fool joke here but I found that Tomo had already done that.

I didn't understand why Tomo said "It made me laugh after 'Anyway, thank you for the feedback.' " in her first comment. I thought maybe David also tried to take us in so I reread his entry but I didn't think so. So I was still wondering why Tomo said so. Now I understand.

Speaking of April Fool's joke, how to take it is so different from Britain and Japan. In Japan, people might fool someone on their daily life but media like TV, newspaper or radio don't do to people.
I remember, several years ago, BBC joked that "Big Ben Goes Digital". And it said that the clock hands would be sold to the first four listners. Some people totally got taken in and became furious about this idea. I like British way of taking April Fool!

Hi everyone,
Last few days were perfect days for outing. My niece visited us so we went to the park, went hiking to the mountain. The mountain path is so steep that my legs are aching today.( 足が笑っている) Also my niece and me made crepes. She did it very well, so beautifully. She is only 10 years old. Then my first son, 16 years old, made a crepe too but it was a total mess. I think girls are much organized than boys in general.

Have a great weekend!

Fumie

Hi David and everyone,

Thanks you for your feedback and it always helps me.
>Was there a different Kitty designer before?
----Yes, there were. Ms.Yamaguchi is the third designer and the character was originally created in 1974. Since she became the designer, she created lots of items and designs, and Kitty has become more popular year by year.
You can get the information from an article " 10 Questions for Yuko Yamaguchi" in Time.com.

http:// + www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1834451,00.html

The article is not only about Hello Kitty itself(herself?) but also about Ms.Yamaguchi herself.
By the way, do you know Kitty-chan is originally said to be from London?

Oh April Fool's day! I knew it was April fool's day, however, same as Tomo, amo and Fumie, I was totally fooled by Mr.Jarrell's story!
When I started reading, I thought to myself, "Wow,that's amazing! Too much talk about Ichiro? No Problem." The story was really believable. It was fun and a good joke, wasn't it?

Bye for now,

Anne

it's me again.
'Thanks for' should be 'Thank you'

Hello, David and Everyone!

This is my first comment. I start studying English almost 6 months ago in earnest.
I was looking for an interesting English website, then I finally could fine THE place. I think I am a lucky woman.

I am always curious about how do I say "よろしくお願いします" in English, because I want to say now too...

P.S At a joke day, my friend told me about she was going to move to France, and she also said, she was going to have a "さようなら" party!
I completely believed her story, because she was so elaborate!

Thank you for reading ;)

Hi Animal Farm,

Glad you found this blog:) As for your question about "yoroshiku onegaishimasu", they don't have an expression like this in English. David says in one of his books that "yoroshiku onegaishimasu" is a phrase that has a special role in Japanese culture, and no equivalent in English, but he also says that he sometimes finds himself wanting to say it when he meets other English speakers. It's a very useful expression, isn't it?

Look forward to reading your comments!

Tomo

Hi Tomo,

Thank you so much for you answer!
I am so glad, people can have communications on the websites like this.
Oh,,, he already wrote it on his book...
(本も読まずに質問して、すみませんです;)

Yes, "Yoroshiku" is a very useful expression!
Actually, I am Korean.
Korean people also have the phase :)

I think I really can improve my English reading skills here! I hope you had a great time in Hakone with your loved one.

See you soon!

I’ve recently started a web site, the information you offer on this website has helped me greatly. Thank you for all of your time & work.
