A New Prime Minister? (Feedback)

I was listening to the radio today, and I heard a song that I love, but I have no idea who sings it. At the end of the song, the DJ didn't say who it was, but I realized that I could use my phone to find out. I played the song again (I had recorded the programme from the Internet) and used the "Track ID" app on my phone to record a bit of it. I found out that it is called "If I could read your mind," and it was a hit in the 70's for a singer called Gordon Lightfoot. All I had to do then was search for it on YouTube, and then check Wikipedia to find out everything about the singer. Isn't technology marvelous!

Anyway, thanks for all your comments, and welcome to all the newcomers. It's great to have you with us. I sometimes forget that there are other people reading the blog, so it's really nice to hear from you.

As I expected, there are lots of different opinions on this topic. Personally, I don't think that Mr. Kan has done a very good job, but then again, I can't imagine any Japanese politician being any better, so I don't think it would be a good idea to change the prime minister at the moment. Here is some feedback on your comments:

This is the first time that I post my comment here, although I have read most of your articles these days.
(This is the first time I have posted a comment here, although I have read most of your recent articles.) [Hi Susan. Thanks for your detailed comment :-)]

I think it's high time I faced to politics seriously.
("It's high time I..." is a nice expression, but "it's high time I took politics seriously" or "it's high time I started thinking seriously about politics" would be more natural.)

Any prime minister can't show the ability in such a short period.
(No prime minister can show his ability in such a short period.)

I come here at the first time.
(This is my first visit.) [Hi Masa. Don't worry about making mistakes, and feel free to write in Japanese if you want to.]

It is my first time that I comment on your blog.
(This is the first time that I have commented on your blog.) [Hi Rin, nice to have you with us.]

Especially I don't like some politicians who only criticise the government.
(I especially dislike politicians who only criticise the government.)

Temporarily forming a big coalition with LDP might be a good idea.
(Hi Kyon, that's a nice sentence, but we usually put "the" before "LDP." Also, I thought PM Kan already offered to form a coalition and the LDP rejected his offer. Is that not right?)

No, I don't think he has done sufficiently admitting that he has worked hard.
(No, I don't think he has done enough, but I admit that he has worked hard.)

It's really stupid that politicians, regardless of LDP or DJP(←does this make sense?)
(It's really stupid that politicians, whether they are in the LDP or the DJP, are criticizing PM Kan and his government.)

Quitting would be much easier than staying on.
(Nice sentence.)

This is my first comment on this blog. It's very nice to meet you.
(If anyone else is thinking about posting a first comment, this is a nice sentence to use.) [Hi Abby, nice to have you with us.]

If people are interested in politics more, this disaster would have at least one good effect on Japanese.
(If people become more interested in politics, this disaster will have had at least one good effect on Japan.)

I had a crazy busy day yesterday.
(Hi Amo. I think you work too hard!)

I think Mr.Kan has not been doing his job sufficiently but he has been doing his best.
(There is an interesting way to say this: I think he has been doing his best, but I don't think his best has been good enough.)

We should take more interest to politics.
(We should take more interest in politics.)

His best may not be good enough, but I think it's too early to judge him.
(Ah, I see Tomo already knew that expression!)

I'm new here too, so it's very nice to have a lot of companies.
(I'm new here too, so it's nice to have company.) ["Company" is uncountable with this meaning.]

It sounds ridiculous that political parties are struggling to gain the power.
(It is ridiculous that political parties are only worried about a power struggle.)

And I hope that the situation at your work would become better.
(And I hope that your situation at work gets better soon.)

My thought what I wanted to was almost involved in Tomo's and momo's,
(Tomo and Momo have already said what I wanted to say.) [Is that the correct meaning?]

When what's his name in the same Party as PM Kan attacked him, he said I can not quit for the Prime Minister untill all things has done.
(When "what's his name" in PM Kan's party attacked him, Kan said that would not quit until the job is done.) [Do you all know the phrase "what's his name"? It's used when you can't remember someone's real name. Thanks Chiki for introducing it.]

That's all for today. Have a great weekend, and I'll see you again on Monday.

Bye for now.

Hi David,

Thank you for your feedback! There are a lot of expressions I want to learn this time too. The topic was a bit difficult, but you gave us specific questions, and I think they made it easier for us to write a comment.

I didn't know that you could use "what's his/her name" like that.(Thanks Chiki:) It's a useful expression.) I didn't know that phrase, but I've learned a similar one before. It's "what-cha-ma-call-it", but I've never heard of it in real conversation. Is it a common phrase? Do you use it when you can't remember the name of something?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Tomo

PS I'm writing this as I'm listening to the song you mentioned. It's very nice:)

Hi David,

Thanks for your feedback.
Yes, you are right! I work too hard:( As I mentioned, I had a busy day today too. I could not have lunch until 5 pm. and worked at 9:45. I am worn out. Anyway, I will read your feedback carefully later. Thanks again

Have a nice weekend;)

Hi David,

Thanks you for your feedback.
> but I admit that he has worked hard.)→I just wanted to use the expression 'admitting that.' Thank you for your correction.

The expression"what's his name?" is new to me. Thanks Chiki.

Hi Abby,
Nice to meet you. Your handle "Abby" reminds me of a TV program 'NCIS.' Abby in the program is very cool!

Hi amo,
You had lunch around 5!? It's not lunch but almost dinner! Hope you have a relaxing weekend.

Have a lovely weekend,everyone!

Anne

Hi David,

Thank you for your feedback!
And thank you for everyone welcoming me.
I've learned a lot through all of your commnets and feedbacks.

Have a nice weekend!

Hi David and everyone,

"Track ID" app on your phone sounds marvelous, and the song was nice. By the way, the title was not "If I could read your mind" but "If you could read my mind":)

Thank you for your corrections and feedback. If you hadn't given us those questions, I would not have been able to write any comments. Maybe, you might want to do the same on the next difficult topic too.

As for "what's his name", I remembered a scean of the movie "The Sound of Music": Maria forgot a boy's name praying at the bed and she said "God bless what's his name!" or something like that.

Hi to all new members. Now is the right time to start new things, isn't it?

Hi, David,

Thank you for your feedback. There are many helpful expressions for me to learn! It's tough to learn foreign language, but really interesting and fun. It's not just learning language but also culture and how different people think in other countries so I can see things in different aspects.

I also often use You Tube to see music videos and lyrics which I cannot get but want to know the meanings in songs. I found it of good use. But once I start watching You Tube, I can stick to it for hours! It's definitely a top-notch device invented by humankind, but I have to be careful not spending all day watching it.

Have a nice weekend!
momo

David, thank you very much for your feedback.I always confuse the usage of the , a and an.

I learned many useful expressions here on this blog.
"what's his name"? thing is very useful.
Thank you, too ,for welcoming me .

As for a big coalition with the LDP, Mr. Tanigaki ,the LDP leader rejected the proposal from PM Kan 3/19, however, former PMs(Mr.Mori and Mr.Abe) spoke positively about its possibility 3/30 under the condition that Mr. Tanigaki, the LDP leader, become a prime minister .

I had a slight expectation on political developments, but that would not happen.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi David and everyone,
Thanks to the marvelous technology, it's really nice to read the feedback with a comfortable BGM :-). Thanks you, Tsuneko, I listened to the song so many times and even checked the lyrics, but I didn't notice the title was "If you could read my mind" (lol). I liked an expression in the lyrics "read between the lines".
"What's his name" is an interesting phrase and it's easy to remember.

How is the weather where you are? It's been raining since this morning here, I hope tomorrow will be a sunny day.
Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Hi David and everyone,

Yes. Technology is marvelous ! (If I am familiar with it, though.) I feel frustrated when I heard a song which I know and I like but I don't know the title and its singer. Now technology solve this problem.

Thank you for the feedback! "One's best" is used as the subject. I didn't know that. Thanks David and Tomo. Gee, I made some mistakes again. I'm still struggling with English grammar. When I write in English, I often don't sure which tense should I use and I'm confused with its structure. Maybe I should study English grammar again with my sons.
I'm a slow learner that may be the reason.
I must confess I'm relieved that Golden Week was over. With my husband and children being around the house for a long time reuires me a lot of works.

Fumie

Hi David and everyone,

As David mentioned, technology is marvelous, but sadly it might be a looong way for me to handle these marvelous ones like "Track IC app." sigh...
By the way, I like both lyrics "If I could read your mind" and "If you could read mind." Actually, both of them are in lyrics. The former one sounds more romantic. Don't you think so?
I also checked other songs on You Tube, and I like 'softly' and 'Beautiful' too.

I totally agree with momo. It's dangerous because I sometimes end up playing with You Tube for more than an hour!

How is the weather where you are today,Ling?
In Nagoya, it was fine and warm(hot!) yesterday, and we can expect another fine day today.

Today is the last day of GW and is also Mother's Day.

Hope you are having a great day.

Bye for now,

Anne

Anne,

It's a beautiful shinning day here(^_^), the temperature is supposed to be high though.

Every mum on this blog, have a wonderful day!

Hi David,

It's my pleasure, and thank you for the feedbacks.
Yes, I mean exactly "Tomo and Momo have already said what I wanted to say." I forgot to place "say" after "wanted to".

Hi tsuneko,
Thank you. I don't know the scean of "The Sound of Music" on English, so I'm going to watch it when I have enough time. Many phrases from movies are useful, really I think.

I'm looking forword to be up next week! See you.

Hi Chiki,

Nice to meet you! Thanks for leaving the message to me. I haven't used that expression myself yet. You used it naturally, that's nice.

The following time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I imply, I do know it was my choice to read, however I truly thought youd have something fascinating to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix in case you werent too busy searching for attention.

I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned this, but Jim Kelly played two years for the Houston Gamblers before actually signing with the Bills. So his name belongs in a discussion of QB types they have to go after.

You are my inspiration , I possess few web logs and occasionally run out from to post .

Particularly fascinating piece of writing.

Great write-up, I am normal visitor of one's site, maintain up the excellent operate, and It's going to be a regular visitor for a lengthy time.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Very fantastic info can be found on site.

Book marked - will come back in next week to evaluate rest articles.

Rattling nice design and style and wonderful subject material , nothing at all else we need : D.

obviously like your web-site however you have to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very troublesome to inform the reality on the other hand I will certainly come back again.

I have recently started a blog, the info you provide on this web site has helped me tremendously. Thank you for all of your time & work.

Great blog. Many websites like yours cover subjects that aren’t found in magazines. I don’t know how we got by 15 years ago with just print media.

I find it so hard to believe that it was only a month ago that i didn't know how to boil and egg and no i can actually cook dinner for my family instead of my wife always have to do it lol

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I really like your site fs g fgdf gg agrgynjbnshrh ad g
