CONTEXT

When trying to discover the meaning of new vocabulary, it helps to look at [contextual] clues, such as the position of the word in a sentence.　新出単語の意味を知ろうという場合、その単語のセンテンスの中での位置といった文脈から得られるヒントを探すことが役立つ。

The newspaper took his comments completely out of [context] and made him look really bad. 新聞報道は彼の発言を本来の文脈から切り離して取り上げ、すっかり悪人扱いされてしまっている。
