★　会話例に登場するGSL単語

この本では会話例と解説の英文を通じてGeneral Service List (GSL) 上の単語に繰り返し触れて、確実にインプットできるようになっています。

下の図は、Vocabprofiler を使って今回の会話例にGSL単語がどれだけ使われているかを分析したもので、赤字のを除くと、なんと97%もがGSL単語で占められていることがわかります（ブルーがGSLの1-1000番まで、グリーンが1001から2000までの単語です）

赤字の GSL 外単語を見るに、Sara, Paulといった固有名詞は当然として、uh が除かれています。A Frequency Dictionary of Contemporary American English で見ると、頻出順位 4684 番です。黄色の job はAcademic Word List 上の単語であることを示していますが、同じく、上記 Dictionaryで見ると、頻出順位 248番の単語です。

★　この復習テストのやり方

同じ GSL 単語でも、コロケーションを知っておかないと実際に使えない単語と、ひとまず意味さえわかっていればいい単語とがありますので、この本では、コロケーションが重要な基本単語を見出し語として選び出し、それについては、会話例で重点的に取り上げる一方、普通のGSL単語は会話例と解説の中にまぶしてあります。そこで、こうした構成に合わせて、Part One で、見出し語になっている基本単語のコロケーションその他の基本用法を、また、Part Two で、その他のGSL単語をテストします。

まずはテキストの 22−24ページの 「何かを聞き出す、尋ねる」の項を読んでください。その上で、Part One の復習テストを、次いで、Part Twoの復習テストをやってみてください。解答は Part Two のあとに入っています。制限時間と合格ラインは個別に示してあります。

テストの方式は基本的に空欄補充で、ヒントのため最初の１−３文字が残してありますが、空欄補充以外に，時折り、択一形式のものが [ tell; told] という格好で示してありますので、正解となる単語を選んでください。

Part One　GO の使い方の復習（制限時間 4 分）

A（男）: Hi, Sara. How’s it [go go; going; go] ? やあ、サラ。どう，調子？
B（女）: Well … うーん…
A: Oh, I like your shoes. They [goes; go; gone; are going] with your skirt. Did you talk with Paul last night? How did it [went; go]?　ああ、その靴、いいね。スカートに合ってる。ポールと夕べ、話をした？どうだった？
B（女）: I wish I could say, “It [has gone; was going; went] well.” うまく行ったわと言いたいところだけどねえ。
A: I know you’re [going to say; going saying], “Why am I [gone; going] through all this?” 一体、どうしてこんな目に遭わなきゃいけないのって言うんだろ。
B: How did you know that? Because of the dark circles under my eyes? どうしてわかるの？目の下のくまのせい？

Part Two　その他の GSL 単語の復習（制限時間 5 分）
