高校英語教科書の語彙分布
高等学校の英語教科書に出て来る英単語、a から youth までの2114単語（ワードファミリー）の語彙分布をVocabProfileにかけてみました。
表１
この表は、高校英語の使用語彙に占める General Service List 上の単語のシェアを表しています。
参考まで、GSLにもAWL (Academic Word List)に入らない、「番外」とされた単語（240単語）は以下のとおりです。

この表は、１億規模のコーパスである British National Corpusとの比較で、K1 は頻度順位１番から1000番までの単語グループを表しております。K10といった単語グループあたりになると、少なくとも英語圏ではあまり使うことのない「珍しい」単語であるということになります。
資料の出所は、高等学校英語教科書の語彙という中條清美先生らの調査報告です。95社35シリーズの教科書がサンプルになっています。

日向先生、はじめまして。
現在「知られざる基本英単語のルール」を教科書にし、GSLの単語をLDOCEやOALDなどでチェックして、その単語の定義や例文が英語で言えるようなトレーニングをしています。
そこで、質問があります。辞典の中に収録されているphrasal verbや表現が多数有る場合、すべて覚えた方がよいのでしょうか。例えばtellの項ではかなりの数が収録されていますが、個人的に学習者用英英辞典に収録されているものは重要なものなのですべて覚えなければいけないという思いがあります。しかし、できれば重要なものを優先的に効率よく覚えたいという欲もあります・・・。最初のステップとしては定義だけおさえた方がいいのでしょうか。ご指導お願いします。

せっかく買ってくださったわけですから、まずは「知られざる基本英単語のルール」に載っている程度の用法からしっかり暗記していくのが間違いなく出発点です。その上で、ロングマンなどのボックスを見て行くと、余裕をもって学習を進められます。

返信ありがとうございます。先生の言うとおりにしっかり暗記していきます。CEF levelsのB1-B2が当面の目標なので達成できるように学習していきたいと思います。
