★　会話例に登場するGSL単語

この本では会話例と解説の英文を通じてGeneral Service List (GSL) 上の単語に繰り返し触れて、確実にインプットできるようになっています。

下の図は、Vocabprofiler を使って今回の会話例にGSL単語がどれだけ使われているかを分析したもので、赤字のGSL外単語を除くと、94.28%がGSL単語で占められていることがわかります（ブルーがGSLの1-1000番まで、グリーンが1001から2000までの単語です）

テキストを色分けすると、こうなります。

赤字になっているのはトム、リサといった固有名詞ですが、それ以外のtalentedは頻出順位4000番台です。masterpieceは12000番台。

★　この復習テストのやり方

同じ GSL 単語でも、コロケーションを知っておかないと実際に使えない単語と、ひとまず意味さえわかっていればいい単語とがありますので、この本では、コロケーションが重要な基本単語を見出し語として選び出し、それについては、会話例で重点的に取り上げる一方、普通のGSL単語は会話例と解説の中にまぶしてあります。そこで、こうした構成に合わせて、Part One で、見出し語になっている基本単語のコロケーションその他の基本用法を、また、Part Two で、その他のGSL単語をテストします。

まずはテキストの２９−３０ページの 「意見を言う：sayの使い方」 の項を読んでください。その上で、Part One の復習テストを、次いで、Part Twoの復習テストをやってみてください。解答は Part Two のあとに入っています。制限時間と合格ラインは個別に示してあります。

テストの方式は基本的に空欄補充で、ヒントのため最初の１−３文字が残してありますが、空欄補充以外に，時折り、択一形式のものが [ tell; told] という格好で示してありますので、正解となる単語を選んでください。

Part One　say の使い方の復習（制限時間3分）

A（女）: Tim, [which; how; what] did you say t___ her?　ティム、彼女に何て言ったの？
B（男）: Sorry, I didn't catch that?　ごめん、何だって？
A: I said, w_____ did you say t__ Lisa? She didn't say [what; why] but she’s in tears! Her eyes are all red.　言ったのは、リサに何て言ったのかって。理由も言わないけれど、彼女泣いているのよ。目が真っ赤。
B: I only [sayed; sayd; said; sed] that she doesn’t draw as well as my cousin. [I had; I will; I’d say] my cousin is really talented. She is said t__ b__ one of the most promising young artists. The oil painting she showed me the other day is a masterpiece.　ただ、いとこほど絵がうまくないと言っただけだよ。俺に言わせれば、いとこはすごい才能があるんだよ。最も有望なアーティストのひとりって言われているんだ。先日彼女が見せてくれた油絵なんて、傑作だよ。
